Runescape needs Apemeken .

Suggestions for players:

-Keep blessing every grave you see.

-Protect others from bullies.

-Keep cool ( I am taking note myself here )

-Generally be nice and helpful.. but do not reward beggars.

Suggestions to Jagex:

-Make graves only lootable after being blessed, if needed reduce blessed time. In doing so encouraging good behaviour.

-Make rules against luring and other malicious behaviour very clear and enforce them strictly.

-Make statements on the forum explaining and encouraging good behaviour.

-Balance wildy so there is no canon-fodder, without making it too safe. In other words, make going to wildy attractive for skillers, cluers, penguinspiers, this will also help pk-ers by keeping the 'food-chain'

healthy.

-Do the utmost to combat cheaters, rwt, gather bots, mainbotters..

Your suggestions for players:

- I already will continue blessing graves I see, whenever I can spare the prayer, or even if I can't spare the prayer if I feel the person deserves it.

- This backfires, in my opinion. Talking back to trash talkers doesn't get you anywhere. Report them and move on. Same goes for PKers who harass skillers, it's one part small chance of loot, one part being able to pick on someone who might not be good at PvP, and one part attention ("Ahahahah I'm giving you a hard time").

- Uh...?

- Too much to ask from most of the playerbase. Those who want to be nice will be nice, those who enjoy annoying others will probably keep doing so, because that's how they have fun. Kind of unfortunate but that's how it is.

Your suggestions to Jagex:

- I think you're operating under the misconception that a risk-free environment is a friendly one. I disagree, I feel that a risk-free environment is a cold one. 4 years ago, we didn't have lootshare, and we didn't have gravestones. When people hunted bosses, they did so with friends, because they wanted people who they could trust to share the loot and save their items in case of death. When you didn't have enough people, your friends introduced you to their friends and vice versa, so the community of trustworthy players could grow. Nowadays, there's pretty much no risk. Lootshare is your distribution, and as a group you agree beforehand if it's lootshare or coinshare - the rest is automatic. If you die, there's very little reason for them not to help you, which means there's little meaning in the act of blessing your grave. It's evident in the monster hunting communities - in 2006/2007, monster hunting clans like GoF and SoDB were lenient with skill levels, tough on scammers. Who you are was more important than what your character was. Now you have monster hunting clans like OTG. What do we generally know OTG for? Their stringent skill requirements. Yes, you need two (I think?) references, but when Nex came out and I was joining various teams, it was surprising how many OTG members could be in the same chat and not recognize each other. Even old monster hunting teams like SoDB have started letting in old scammers.

Keeping areas that require teamwork risk-free invites the current practice of "go to the forums, find the highest levels, go boss hunting, part ways". Putting the danger back in there discourages this practice and encourages friendship, trust, and the forming of actual tight-knit communities.

- Luring people into the Wilderness on false pretenses (such as a trade) was finally declared an item scam near the end of the Free Trade era. I don't see any reason it would suddenly become no longer a scam.

- Making statements is not very important because the majority of the playerbase does not use fansites or RSOF. Too many players just log on and play. And besides, people who want to be jerks will hardly listen, will they?

- Agreed. Either non-combat and PvM should be removed entirely, or the wilderness should be designed so PvM in the wilderness is consistently worthwhile to justify the risks. Things like the Abyss really need to change - you risk your pouches, you risk all your items, and the benefit is usually smaller than conventional methods (ZMI, Graahk, etc.)

- Jagex has always tried their hardest, or so they say. Either they've been lying, or so far they've just been on the losing end of that battle. I feel it's the latter, but meh.

.I have no reason really helping others if they die. Online honor is stupid (unless you want rs to be your rl), and your most likely never going to see that person again. You also can't blame people for luring and stuff, because that person being lured should know the risk, and if they don't well like I said b4 you don't know them irl so sucks for them, and I don't expect any favors from anyone else, simple as that.

Honour is never stupid, maybe unless it kills you.. the game is related to RL.. by the simple fact that people play the game, but you will never agree..

As far as being lured or in other ways killed outside wildy for your stuff being your own fault.. that is extremely callous, its mostly the new, inexperienced players that get victimised. Being young and new should not paint a target on your back..

Iv talked about us needing these newbs.. the game needing them, if you need some more explanation why.. please tell me, if you do not agree, please tell me why.

Anyway, the whole point of 'paying forward' is that you help a stranger, who helps an other.. it could actually come back to you..

Lastly, also to Soma2035, I can not prove this, but several good sources , including tip.it times, claim that ddos attacks and the like are getting more prevalent and easier to do.

If this is true, it will also be quite easy to get legit players , even smart ones, killed for there stuff.. why even take this risk?

What upside is worth this?

I do see Soma2035's point.. in that more risk would help good ppl get together basically.. but, that is far from full-proof.. I ones went to DK's with 2 friends and a good friend of a friend.. in the end I was out off my stuff..

Lol...pking is dumb to begin with....a bunch of idiots obsessed over pixelated items worth absolutely nothing in the real world. Note to all pkers: get a job and move out of your parent's basement

Please explain obsessed? Obviously if you're going to try and bring up an argument that's completely void of facts, and resorts to name calling immediately, then you do not have a good argument. Please come back when you're done insulting pkers (and by that I also mention myself) and come up with a reasonable response the this thread. You're wasting valuable forum space, which others may want to fill up. It's kind of like how the world is close to running out of unregistered IP addresses, ya know. So please think before you post.

Thank you and have a nice day!

I'm saying you have nothing to lose. You lure a noob which is pointless because you won't get anything form them, and the noob dies and quits. Well what has the lurer lost? Nothing at all. Or someone dies in a distant place, and don't have the correct teleports. You take their stuff, what did you lose from that? You call a high level a no-life, what did you lose for calling that high level a no life? So basically you don't lose anything not having honor. Really the only thing that honor helps with is that it increases the chance that someone might do something for you like bless your grave.

There is a chance that someone could be nice to you but, thats their choice. You make a bunch of noobs quit, and Jagex loses profit, and has to shut down RS, well not really a problem considering no-one else is going to be playing and RS will have been a waste of time, and yes RS is a huge waste of time, but its a fun/relaxing waste of time.

So, lets just agree to disagree and.. leave it at that.

Well, You could say they they lose their.. Honor. *badum-tss*

I used to make a lot of new friends while skilling. Now nobody ever really talks in the regular chat. People are either talking with friends and clan chat, semi-afk training, minding their own or botting. Everyone who doesn't respond when someone QC's their lvl 69 woodcutting are automatically classified as bots. The grand exchange is just a too busy place to make any sort of conversation, but world 2 was even worse.

There's also a sort of caste system based on how many 99's you have and how much expensive stuff you have on you. Those who aren't at least as "successful" as you are noobs not worth the time. Because I haven't trained a skill to 99 just for the sake of a cape, a few people I've met have actually just said "lolnoob" then walked away, even though they wanted my help. You could say that skillcapes was what made this change of attitude, because not only do 99's make people feel superior, it has given a big incentive to bot. Before skillcapes, Only the dedicated had 99's besides combat. The majority of players were focused on the combat part of RS, which was very easy and fun. No reson for botting than to afford those pk equipments. Now there's an unwritten rule that until you have at least one 99, you're a noob, and as soon as you get that cooking/fletching cape you are above the rest.

Botting has generally made an impact by introducing the view that you have nothing to lose by cheating in this game. Care only about yourself so that you can wield that sign saying "I'm better than you". This view of other people is really damaging, not only for the game but in the real world, but I digress.

Whole of OP's post seems like he just needs to harden up.

Anyone who played pree '07 will realise the danger of said areas & graves

And, mentioning graves, you ALREADY HAVE 6 MINUTES TO GET BACK. This is 6 MORE minutes than you used to have

How much more time do you want.

If you die; so be it.

It was part of the game and will be, once again, part of the game.

QQ.

Pre '07, people boss-hunted with far less valuable gear. Also, lootable graves at bosses is that this will give people an incentive to start "luring" at places like DKs and TDs. It gives people an INCENTIVE not to bless, when previously people would generally bless because it benefits the team (with faster kills and better anti-crash power) to have you return after a death. And since most of the teams at GWD were previously formed on the RSOF with strangers, this will have a devastating impact on boss hunting in general.

Pre '07 the gold coin went a lot further too, remember. A whip's 3 m back then was worth a lot more than it is these days.

And tbh, most boss hunters these days either have friends they go with, or a clan.

The only people who use RSOF are the random people who want a one off trip or can't solo.

This won't have much affect at all in my opinion.

Please know what you're talking about. A whip was at about 2.4m when free trade was taken away. It is more expensive now than it was before it stabilized.

It is true, I have noticed more aggressive players since the announcement of free trade/wildy - and the return of immature words like "stfu, mofo, gtfo, fu, idiot, yo momma" etc. and are those words really necessary? No. I call that sort of thing "trading insults", which accomplish nothing.

For me personally, I have been going to barrows these last few days and now I am constantly getting comments like 'lol why pray?' and 'need p pots/food pls'.

Really? I pray because I do not want to die - surely that is simple enough to understand. I could have made a smart remark back like 'lol why die?' but I am better than that, and instead, said nothing - because sometimes silence is golden and it is better than fuelling a fire.

No I will not give beggars p pots/food just because they want to take advantage of others by making one more trip before restocking - that is what a bank is for, not people. Come prepared and you would not have these problems. Never would I go around asking for p pots/food, but that is just me.

There is burgh de rott which has a bank nearby, provided you completed the necessary quest for it. I go there all the time when I forget my spade or anything I need for barrows. < That is advice I give them.

My advice for those players are free, however my tolerance for stupidity or people who beg or take advantage of me is very limited. I am very generous, but at the same time I will not be taken advantage of  Most of the time if a player needs a p pot or some food, I will give it to them - but those who intentionally ask for those items usually 'want' the items, and don't particularly 'need' them.

Only in IPv4. IPv6 won't ever have that problem, as it is 128 bit compared to IPv4's 32 bits. There is literally enough IP addresses in it for every person on earth to have their own private IP address... Or so is claimed.

Just because you can be an [wagon] doesn't mean you should. You may not lose or gain anything by being malicious, but the people you are mean to certainly do. Yeah, that's right... Whether you care or not, there is another living, breathing HUMAN BEING on the other side of the screen who has feelings.

I predicted this back when Jagex first announced the poll. I was laughed at and mocked by all the people who advocated the change (especially PKers), who said that people are already rude and that bots are already a huge issue. Nope, not like it will be. And we haven't even really seen the worst, yet.

There is a REASON Jagex makes so many updates to try to placate the PKing community, and it isn't because they are a large part of the player base (because they're not). They are the loudest, most obnoxious sect of the runescape community. They make their voice heard the best, both on the forums and in-game through their riots tantrums. Note that I am not saying all PKers are like that-- and I say this from having experience in the clan world for several years-- but enough are (especially pures, for some reason) to spoil the common perception of the PKing community as a whole.

I am slightly disappointed to see the responses to OP's suggestions as an affront to player's personal freedom. Tip.It has never been the frilly, nilly RS fansite such as RuneHQ and RSCommunity but these responses seem a tad bit aggressive.

Anywho...

OP's suggestion isn't such a bad idea after all. A friendlier community of more helpful, nicer players. Even if the player community is young, brash, and arrogant, the older, more mature players can make a good example just by being a little kinder to our fellow 'Scapers. It's always worth a shot, eh? Whats could you possibly lose?

All people can do is try to have a positive impact on others themselves. You can't try to shape and form others without a backlash.

Personally, I don't see it becoming any more negative than currently. Hell, I know I'll be in a more positive mood myself.

The whole point of talking about Apemeken is saying .. it is possible to impact a community.

Jagex obviously has the biggest chance of doing so, but we also do.

I actually think Tip.it has an impact on the community..

I understand this, which was the reason for my comment. "All people can do is try to have a positive impact on others themselves. You can't try to shape and form others without a backlash."

You can attempt to impact the community, just don't expect it to be easy. I think Tip.It has a better chance of positively impacting the community than Jagex does, unless they shape up a ridiculous amount.

Lol. Nice for you to have a go at me; when you clearly know nothing about economics or inflation. It may "cost" more now, but the gold piece holds less value.

Furthermore, as an add on, a whip was valued at a lot more than 2.4 mil at one stage. And not that much earlier than '07. If you reread my paragraph that you quoted, you'll note i said pre '07. Not they very day before free trade was taken away.

I have said for years now : Levels, money, age, nationality... etc.. do not matter; ATITUDES DO!

Levels and money have never impressed me, not before I have them and not now I have them.

For me personally, I have been going to barrows these last few days and now I am constantly getting comments like 'lol why pray?'

I thought not praying at Dharock was no problem, I could just eat or turn prayer on.. till a group of players spamcast tellyother spells at me, blocking me eating or praying. Result: 25 mil down the drain. Of course we all now know to have aid of at these occasions.. I was one of the first to advise this on the forums.. that was before 07 and this kind of cheating will soon be back.

Thanks you say it better then I could.

I have ran a little social 'clan' for a long, long time. We only have one rule , one word: Behave

Of course we have to elaborate a bit for some ppl and explain what behave actually means.

Usually this works great.

I have had to ad several things now, to avoid problems.

no begging.

no pking clanmates.

Anyway, I also used to (help) run a Soul Wars clan, a lot of fun itself.. but total drama hell.

Insults, baiting, deathlists, hacking(attempts), grudges etc.. etc..

A lot I see lately reminds me of this.

Will start off saying kudos because you have made a more grammatically sound post than most people with English as their first language could.

Secondly, I agree, but at the same time I don't.

I realize we are all real people, however this is internet - where one can say without ever having to do. A lot different than in real life, saying something you can't back up generally results in a bit of mockery and such.

On the internet - anyones word is as good as the next guys, which is why we have 5 year olds talking about all the pot they smoke and [kitty] they get.

About the blessing graves part, and Burstinglobs, am willing to bet if this was Feb 1st and people in that cc found a grave, at least 7/10 would loot everything and run- why? because they can without any real consequences.

The internet provides a gateway for young, moronic people(more so moronic than just young) to become something they aren't.

And finally the end to my rambling, I always play with public off unless I'm doing something with just friends, however if the community of rs was semi decent i'm sure i'd be having it on a bit more.

Thank you, And your 'rambling' makes a lot of sense.

I am of the opinion you can be a decent person on a game, just as easy as in rl, or maybe easier, also.. like you can indeed be a 'badass' on the internet, safely from behind your pc.

In the end its all up to the individual player and what Jagex allows .

My suggestions to Jagex are to take some of the temptation away, but certainly not to make 'babyscape'.

A friend of mine suggests jagex gives the 'loot' from a totally blessed grave to the one who blessed it, if it is not reclaimed (directly to bank).

An other one said Jagex should allow players to set a reward for ones that bless there grave.

All interesting.

Best post.

Life is hard... there are no quick fixes, why should runescape be any different?

"You can please some of the people all of the time.

You can please most of the people some of the time.

But you cannot please everyone all of the time."

Therefore, toughen up... build an extra tough exterior and deal with it.

Because it's a game, and people play it to escape from the unfair bleakness of real life?

Again, as I replied to someone else... Just because you CAN be an [wagon] doesn't mean you SHOULD. People like you are why these forums are turning to garbage.

Hey hey now buddy... no need to turn it into a personal attack. Just because you are a dreamer doesn't mean I have to be one as well!

I only stated basic facts that are out there for everyone to see. Personally, I gave up on the whole "be nice" ideology a long time ago, and so should you. It only holds you back from fulfilling your true potential. Not to mention 99% of the people out there (in runescape and real life) are only out for themselves and nobody else.

What is the point of playing a MMO if you're going to step on everyone you meet?
