March 19, 201115 yr Hi all, it has been a long time since i have made a post but, after reading some popular science articles i came to the only forum i know. Here is a discussion between Firefox 4 and Internet explorer 9 (ONLY THESE TWO PLEASE!) Which of the two browsers do you currently use if applicable Would you ever consider switching your browser What do you think is essential for a browser to have (ultimately resulting in you using it) What would you want to change about these browsers AFTER looking at what they have to offer in their newest versions So ill be honest i kind of fell in love with fire fox i just liked the customization of it and all the add-ons because at least in my opinion the old versions of internet explorer were absolute trash. But I've been following this for a little while (only a few hours) and internet explorer 9 looks like it could compete on the same playing field as mozilla firefox but that's just me. I think a browser needs to have speed of course but also the ability to customize to the users likings. Such as firefox persona's or optional add-ons and features such as that. Im not sure of what i would change so to speak (ill make that decision later on down the line). Lastly though I'm looking in both firefox 4 and Internet Explorer 9 that they are using hardware accelerators, which sounds great for stuff even non runescape related. I max out at about 50 fps on close to min detail on runescape but runescape isn't the only thing i use. Youtube which im sure most if not all of us use sometimes plagues us with buffering times and such. I can figure out what hardware acceleration means but in a IE9 demo they went from around 20 fps to 91fps using acceleration. So what do you all think of this new "Generation" of browsers that are coming out. Discuss :)
March 19, 201115 yr Shouldn't this be in Questionnaires or in Off-Topic/Tech and Computers? Anyway I would never go back to IE. So Firefox for me or a certain other browser the you don't want us to discuss. =P People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it, upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly.--Brendan Francis
March 19, 201115 yr Internet Explorer sucks, end of story. The obvious winner here is Firefox 4. BlogTrimmed | Master Quester | Final BossBoss pets: Bombi | Shrimpy | Ellie | Tz-Rek Jad | Karil the Bobbled | Mega Ducklings120s: Dungeoneering | Invention
March 19, 201115 yr Google Chrome. [spoiler=I LOVE MY STATION] 01001001001001110110110100100000010101000111011101100101011011000111011001100101001000000110000101101110011001000010000001110111011010000110000101110100001000000110100101110011001000000111010001101000011010010111001100111111
March 19, 201115 yr Internet Explorer sucks, end of story. The obvious winner here is Firefox 4.I actually use the Firefox 4.0 Beta, and it's really nice. As for IE, haven't tried it. I don't plan on it either. For the record though, I'm currently using Chrome, as FF is for some reason ridiculously slow.
March 19, 201115 yr Author Honestly i think im going to try IE9 AND firefox 4 when it finally comes out. i think the concept of hardware acceleration is going to take the browsers where none have gone before. As for pre-conceived thoughts that Internet explorer is horrible, it has in the past but i still would recommend trying it. i will be testing it in the coming days and ill provide more feedback. The reason i put this here is because no one reads the tech section/ questionnaires in my opinion, your larger audience is in the general thread. Also, if you don't mind answering some of the other questions that would be cool aswell. Rather then saying i like this or that explain why to what ever technical degree you would like to. Ive said mine before but what makes or breaks a browser for you?
March 19, 201115 yr nothing could make me try IE again;IE is just what other browsers aim to beat;every IE click lags your comp to no end;the majority of internet users use IE, but the majority of internet users are not smart;that level 70 in the granite platebody is using IE;the majority of CLS users probably use IE whenever IE gets improved, FF will be improved moreFF runs more quickly than chrome on my computers so I use FF (plus I'm more accustomed to the FF mechanics) @ vvv OP: hide your yahoo toolbar or whatever is covering up your screen All skills 70+ Trails: 2 x Rune platebody (g)Barrows: 1 x Dharok's legsDrops: 1 x Dragon skirt | 1 x Dragon defender

March 19, 201115 yr Firefox 4 is coming out on the 22nd so I wouldn't say its still in development. Oh and according to the beta version it will have a lot more screen space uncluttered and tabs are restyled to be more like chrome's style. People who ask our advice almost never take it. Yet we should never refuse to give it, upon request, for it often helps us to see our own way more clearly.--Brendan Francis
March 19, 201115 yr wait people still use IE? lol If you quote me please be sure to note that I'm extremely mad.
March 19, 201115 yr Author I have been a firefox person for quite some time so i actively await the fire fox 4.0 release. WHAT DO YOU LIKE SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE BROWSER YOU USE <--- discuss
March 19, 201115 yr I'm pretty sure I tried IE9-the latest one, yeah? And it was terrible. Firefox 3 is better. No joke. I'm not an efficienado.
March 19, 201115 yr As a web developer I can never forgive Microsoft for creating IE. It has taken a huge amount of progress out of web development in the last several years. Plus, it isn't open source, doesn't support as many open standards (WebP/OGG/OGV), and doesn't run on Linux. Why would anyone ever even consider using IE anymore?
March 19, 201115 yr Actually, this iteration of IE is significantly better then the previous versions (last I tried it). A much smaller memory footprint, standards compliance, graphics hardware acceleration (still the only browser to implement this). I don't think it's enough to make me switch, but it's nice to see Microsoft putting some effort into creating a better product. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
March 19, 201115 yr Author This is more a question for a tech savy person but after watching some videos a good amount of people said opera was the fastest browser out there and im not sure if they have implemented GPU acceleration but i tried the Internet Explorer Fish tank (speed test) and at 1000 fish i was going around 4fps when in other youtube videos with the NEW IE9 it was cruising around 50+
March 19, 201115 yr As a rule of thumb, a browser vendor's own tests almost always run the best on their own browser.
March 19, 201115 yr Quite true. That said, IE blows the other browsers out of the water in that regard (until they implement hardware acceleration). "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
March 19, 201115 yr Google Chrome is the only browser I enjoy using. Every other browser covers up half the screen and is plain clunky.ie9's urlbar is cleaner than chromes current. I'm a big fan of rockmelt. Created by firefox maker, chrome based, and blended really nicely with facebook.
