People wearing rose-tinted glasses. Drunk on nostalgia. The idiots who say "oh in 2006 the game was so wonderful and nice there was no bots and no scamming and everyone loved each other"

I played in 2006, and I remember how it was back then. IT SUCKED.

In 2006, there were still scammers, even moreso than there are now. W2 Fally was FULL of scammers (most were stupid and unsuccessful, though). There were still trolls and immature idiots who ran around begging for money and trying to scam. They always existed, and they don't exist any more now than they did then.

As for bots, they're nothing new! Back in 2006, if you went to the yew trees in varrock or edgeville on any free world, you'd see 50+ level 3 bots there! I'm not denying there has been a bot influx with the reintroduction of free trade, but what I'm trying to say is that it's nothing new.

Where did I mention the GE in my post? I said W2 Fally.

Yeah I lol at the people who say "RS was so much better back in the day" and I remind them that it was as [cabbage]ty as it is now, and people said all the same things about the game as they do now.

Also thats why I voted "yes" because I enjoy the game for what it is, bots, scammers, and all.

Yes, I had fun in 2006 RS. Obviously I liked it if I actively played it. I just hate it when people talk about 2006 like it was the Utopia golden age of RS when it had just as many problems as it does now.

RSv2006 was so much better... there was like, no dungeoneering, and like, no gop, and like, no dice.

No DICE!

99 dungeoneering achieved, thanks to everyone that celebrated with me!

If there isnt one now there sure as hell wasnt one then.

06 - still had the doom sayers that flooded the game and forums saying "RS sucks now, this games going to die soon, etc." Still had lurers, bots and scammers everywhere. It DID had personal trading but DIDNT have clan chat (I think clan chat brough as much community as the GE destroyed). RS is teh same as it was then, just with more skills and quests and better graphics.

Oh and back in 06 it was all the rage to talk about how "miniclippers" are immature and destroyed the social fabric of runescape

Yeah the worst was talk of the miniclippers, but now the game feels like a single player. You now can go through your entire career without interacting with a single person. I blame a lot of this on the GE. I'm sure most people would agree that generally most people than were more open and community based.

There was not. Unless the "community" you speak of consists of scammers, immature 10 year olds, and bots. In which case that community still exists.

Even back then it was possibile, DIY playing for one and few massive sellers on your friends list.

Im sure Zezima and other famous top players didnt have dozens of sellers on their lists, Im sure they had 1 or 2 who sold them massive amounts of everything imaginable and they probably paid them a bit more then market value for the service. While those guys may have been constantly buying 100k's of pure ess, logs, etc to resell for a higher price the elite players themselves didnt really need to go through the rat race.

Difference now is no one NEEDS to do that, although the forums and W2 are still alive for those that choose to. Still few people chose to play solo for the same reason few do now, its boring. People actively look for community, whether its clans, friends, etc. So you saying that there isnt a massive trade community is a moot point to the fact that theres massive clan communities now.

Well hold on now guys, this could be a viable thread. Ignore the fact that he simply made the thread as a rant for what he wanted to say. Instead what is the one thing that you hate more than anything in this game? See it is a discussion thread now. Personally I dislike the fact that all of my skilling is pointless now that the game has shifted into a combat based MMORPG where all skills are better trained after maxing combats. Very frustrating to be honest.

Skilling was mostly [cabbage] back in 06, save rc and a few others. Slayer then barrows sealed skillings fate

I definitely enjoyed rs in 2006, but I enjoy it now as well. I enjoyed it before free trade was brought back as well. :P The GE and clan chats are definitely a wonderful addition, and I feel like the community hasn't changed much. I'm a little bit worried that things might get worse though.. To the extent things were just before free trade was first removed. It was removed for a reason if I recall..

Indeed but I predate 06 and remember when crafting gold to sell in Port Sarim was deemed one of the quicker ways to generate cash. No one had nature runes so forget that mess. Gold jewelry was where it was.

+1

Also trading was kinda cool.,,. but it was kind of a massive pain in the ass. It was more severe for autotypers back then and I'd type legit. Man W2 for an hour was killer.

Also there might well have been more lures back then, before the wilderness ditch there were plenty of glitches people were messing with.

And community?? Theres shed loads of it, your just not looking for it. You can not talk, but if I start chatting while Im alching or herbloring at least 1 non botll chat back. BXP weekends there were some great convos going on.

As soon as d meds were added skilling was less profitable than combat. And it's always been easier to train most skills at max combat.

Hell just had a little flashback, it's always been better training at higher combat. Remember in RSC you had to fight people when you fail pickpocketed (i think?), it was a lot easier if you had higher stats.

I don't know much about skilling now but what's that much easier to train at max combat, other than the fact money is easier. Which has always been the way
