Stand Up Comedy

Featured Replies

Not entirely sure if this is the right forum for this or if there's already been a thread on this.

Stand up comedy is one of my favorite things in life. Finding a hilarious new comedian or special is always a highlight for me. Unfortunately I'm beginning to run out of comics that I find funny. My favorites right now would be Louis CK, George Carlin, Greg Giraldo, Bill Burr, Kathleen Madigan, Chris Rock, Anthony Jeselnik, Mitch Hedberg, Daniel Tosh, and Ricky Gervais (not necessarily in that order).

Anyone else here like stand up? Favorite comedians?

Stewart Lee only.

I love stand up too. Dane Cook is sooo funny!

No but seriously, I do enjoy stand up. I can't think of many names off hand, but Daniel Tosh, Katt Wlliams, Chris Rock, and John Stewart are some of my favourites that come to mind.

Not sure if this should be here or in MMT, but I vote it stays here.

RIP Greg Giraldo.

Three months banishment to 9gag is something i would never wish upon anybody, not even my worst enemy.

Chris Rock is pretty funny. I remember seeing a few of his things not long ago. Russel Peters too, of course. He's a legend. We've got a local comedian here in Qatar, the name escapes me, that's pretty funny too. A lot of his work is about Arabs, mocking them and such (he's an Arab himself so i guess that's alright then).

I remember seeing some of Jamie Fox's work too a year or so back. Probably the worst i've ever seen.

Pretty much everyone so far has posted my favorite comedians, except for Gabriel Iglesias. Love his stuff, great guy.

Louis CK

Some stand-up is okay. A lot of it is pretty tacky and predictable though.

I second this.

Gabriel Iglesias seems like an awesome guy.

I don't really like Sarah Silverman's standup, but the Sarah Silverman Program and her songs are hilarious.

I don't mind most stand-up comics, but Lisa Lampanelli is the one woman I DESPISE.

Her entire act is being all raunchy and unwomanly and talking about how she loves being a [bleep], then insulting the front row of her audience. [bleep] her.

EDIT #2: These videos are embedded in below post. Thank you H2!! :)

Patten Oswalt and David Cross are probably my two favorites right now.

Some comedians just do better on panel shows imo, Sean Locke for one.

Agreed. He's hilarious on 8 Out of 10 Cats but his stand up isn't as good.

I love watching stand up. Billy Connolly, Kevin Bridges and Lee Mack are favourites of mine at the minute.

I haven't recognised many of the comedians names from across the pond though so I'm wondering how people feel about comedians from different countries, say the difference between British and American comedy? I know theres not one particular thing that constitutes "British" or "American" comedy but there are bound to be differences.

It isn't in the castle, It isn't in the mist, It's a calling of the waters, As they break to show, The new Black Death, With reactors aglow, Do you think your security, Can keep you in purity, You will not shake us off above or below

Knew I'd forgotten someone. Kevin Bridges is definitely great. I quite like Lee Mack when he does Stand Up but I saw him on QI and he came across as a bit of a [puncture] on the show...

And I too would be interested to know the 'difference' between the comedies.
