Arceus

Recommended Posts

I can understand where Arceus is coming from, this game is still rated 13+, and this bug should have been dealt with long ago, in other games with mods like this i.e. oblivion there is a clear 18+ rating before you view/download it. There is no such warning on runescape, and kids do still play.

Woah there, this is hardly X rated material its a skin tone with no depicted genitalia or anything.. Its basically a naked doll and exactly how many kids haven't seen a naked doll - I mean I don't like seeing this in my game cos I think it looks stupid but seriously does this offend anyone's sensibilities? Also, 13+ I didn't even realise Runescape was 13+ but come on guys you might be older now but we'd all seen far, far worse than this at 13, my bro gave me my first porn mag at about that age.

Different people have different opinions, you may be ok with it, some kids who's parents watch them play may less impressed.

The glitch's not a common occurrence, and it's suggested that you be 13 when you sign up, but it's not a requirement. You need to be 13+ if you want chat freely, but Jagex has no age verification and considering the existing content advertised in the game, the age limit's a non-issue, IMO. The player's exploiting a glitch -- it's not intended to be content, so Jagex can't be held liable to adjust its age requirements. There's also no pornographic depiction of genitalia, so I don't see how that'd make the game "18+" anyway.

Can you just imagine the silliness of that?

RuneScape: 18+ only. Player may encounter rare occurrence of seemingly nude woman with no graphic depiction of genitalia. Beware!

It looks like a Barbie. Go find something else to complain about.

Dolls can't speak.

Neither can our characters :P. Deliberately not voice-acted after all.

Anyway, I think it looks like a mannequin or something. Which is silly game-wise, but not troubling.

Barbies are as anatomically correct as the avatars themselves here. And truthfully as far as general shape goes between a Barbie doll and the real thing a vagina looks pretty much the same (obviously with some female genitalia having distinguishing features compared to others). My point being that its nothing young girls haven't played with or young boys haven't undressed and seen (referring to Barbie dolls).

As far as the core piece of the discussion goes... Get the [bleep] over it. Being one who took psychology classes and a human sexuality class its no wonder people get knocked up so easily or are so disdainful of the human body and reproductive system. I have family who has taught their kids the difference between boys and girls as well as the roles of each at an early age (5 year old boy and 9 year old girl I believe). I believe with this issue "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" really holds up well. If people taught their kids this way their enamor with the opposite sex would be more understood and would lead to less reckless wanderings of primal instinct.

end rant...

It's been possible to be "naked" ever snce the vast color pallette was added. Not really new.

In higher detail you can see the cloth textures more clear, but in lower non-textured graphic settings it does look like you have no clothes on.

The idea here is context. You don't shove a bunch of young kids in the room and expect them to give themselves sex education. You have to teach them, with some guidance-not hope they figure it out on a video game.

Obviously the parents fault though. Regardless if you accept blame in the form of negligence or expect public education to offer you the service its still on the parent. Public education sex education honestly is abhor-able because they dumb it down for fear that they'll anger some parent.

I believe with this issue "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" really holds up well.

...But you're opposed to prevention in this case.

If there's anything I took away from 6 years of modding, it's that it's not a good idea to allow players to have naked avatars. More than that, this discussion about the right ways to teach sex education just isn't relevant to this topic, and blaming the parents for not teaching kids the way you prefer doesn't change a thing about how they're acting now.

Don't get me wrong, on any other day or in any other topic I'd probably agree with you. Here and now, however, I'm strongly opposed to enabling the kinds of players that this appeals to.

Yes but a Barbie doesn't have a immature teenager spewing vulgar profanities whilst she is naked. The two together could cause offence to some players

IMO, most of the female characters ingame that made/will make their account naked are not girls, and if i young girl would choose to make their avatar seem naked I imagine she would fully understand what kind of things would be said to her.

It is relevant because the reason we monitor this stuff is due to our parents wanting to hide sexuality from the younger inexperienced crowd. They would rather cop out and force "decency" than put more effort into prevention. After all it's much easier to tell someone to "jut keep your cloths on" than to say "Johnny has this and Amy has that... Then this is how you were created." patents ate scared because it's too intimate yet, and this is my opinion, should be taught.

Edit: yeah actually in a way you are right. I mean some things have to be barred, but yeah...

it's possible to also appear topless as well as bottomless, saw this at the GE today - not pleasant.

Why is it acceptable for male characters (who have used this exploit for FAR longer than girl bodykits have) but not women? Why was it when people finally saw naked-appearing female body kits, people suddenly said "Oh no, now that's too much."

I don't get the bias here. You're only seeing so much of it because it was just recently popularized on /vg/ and reddit. It will die down just like the men-version of this glitch did and then people will forget about it.

Who cares.

Because sexism, sadly.

It's just a bug that some immature players are exploiting, nothing to get worked up about. Bring it to Jagex's attention and when they are able, they will fix it.

I honestly do not see the big deal. Although Runescape is a family oriented game, it is no different than a doll as mentioned before. Still well in the guidelines of being family friendly. :)

Wait... you're up in arms and made a thread because of the fact that certain pants look like skin? You're acting like it honestly offended you. It's a harmless glitch that the most immature of players will toy with for about 10 minutes. The majority of the time, these people would probably go to a public place (like the GE) to show it off, and with all the people, it's barely noticeable.

Semi off-topic: men and women walk around topless in Ontario. I was about six years old when I went there. I wasn't "scarred" by seeing them because of the fact that breasts weren't depicted in a sexual light.

[hide]Also: you don't complain that many famous paintings have nudity in them do you?[/hide]

So let me get this straight: robbery, murder, genocide, kidnapping, human sacrifice ...... wanton destruction of cabbage, no problem and continue with your 13+ rating. Skin tone clothing: OMFG, Jagex is corrupting the youth of the world.

Morons being offended by proxy, grow up. You're moaning about people seeing less than what they see every time they take a shower. If the violence gets a pass because it's in a virtual environment, then items of sexual nature gets the same pass. Actually, I think the violence should be held to a higher standard. I'd sooner my child see a nude body then a decapitated one. Then again, it's my call to make by deciding what games she can play. I don't force my belief on how to raise my child onto everyone else in the world.

This complaint has reared its head ever since tribal clothings were released in the Twai Bwano Village (sp?) mini-game made people look sort of topless.

I will agree personally with you that violence is worse-however you do not see decapitated bodies walking around.

This.

Or more accurately:-

Who cares.

This.

Kim, the bias is that no one wishes to see bare crotch sections of either gender, as well as they don't wish to see bare tips of female breasts. And that even applies when there is nothing to actually see underneath. There does at least need to be a little common sense, even in avatar design for a fantasy MMORPG. ;)

Tell that to the makers of Barbie.

I will agree personally with you that violence is worse-however you do not see decapitated bodies walking around.

Wait. So, you can actively take a role in the violence, and that's somehow less abhorrent than seeing an image somewhat related to a human body.

Wow. Ok.

Spend some time in world 1 Lumbridge before you claim it's not a problem. If you can't be bothered to do that, read this. If you can't be bothered to do that, don't pretend to know what you're talking about.
