why is construction a skill???

besides it is logic step

the econmy is way overload as every part of the lets millions of gp into the game with no effective way of taking it out of the game

This is merely the come bk, the econmy can find a natural balance now rather than continuing to swell

Ever since rs first began to econmy has grown like 2 or 3 times faster than money has been taken from game via shops

single gp

Exactly construction was not designed to be one of those skills you make money from or raise for free. It was made so drain money from the economy and so that rich players can show off their wealth..

Think about it, loads of players make their money by high acling. High alch basicaly makes money out of nothing so we need a way to get money out of the game to keep prices of items under control, i.e. Phats.

If there is less money in the game, items will be sold for a lower price instead of continualy raising in price.

combat costs getting food

slayer costs combat

magic costs runes

range costs arrows etc

Combat costs food? Cook it! Need raw? Fish it!

Slayer - ^

Magic costs runes? Craft them! Runecraft costs essences? Mine them!

Range costs arrows? Make them! Fletching requires wood and arrowtips? Smith arrowtips and cut wood! Smithing requires ores? Mine them! Mining requires pickaxe? Hey, noone said you cant mine with bronze bronze pickaxe that is spawned :D

Skills costs money ONLY if you want to do skills fast/you're lazy. ALL skills but construction CAN be trained free.

Yes, it 'costs' time. But time is free. This is about free-ish and money-ish skills. Not about time-ish and speedy-ish -.-

I agree you can do every other skill in runescape and get some levels (maybe not best way and maybe not fastest) but the point is you can doo all skill sexcept construction with 0 gp ... it is impossible to level con with 0gp impossible i tell yeah (don't even post you can do it free with clay you need to buy your house) ok ok ... you can use lamps ... but lets be serious lamps can't get you anywhere.

You can't do any skill for free. How'd you get your lobster pot, your pickaxe, your hatchet? Still using your bronze, and your net are we?

Well, dagganoths drops lobster pots, harpoons. You can smith axes (Or kill Dagg Kings for dragon axe?:P). And hey, mine with bronze until rock golem comes. They drops pickaxes  .. About rune pick.. Well, skill is free. having better pickaxe is your own choice! Do you need better pick than bronze to mine ANY ore? no.

Don't kid yoruself. You cannot honestly compare buying a lobster pot for 15 gold pieces to buying 99 construction with 200,000,000 gold pieces.

Just like every other skill, if you use money, you will level a lot faster. You can level construction by gathering your resources such as plank, nail, clay, limestone, and keep building the same thing over and over. You will level but it will take you a very long time. So you invest in some higher level materials so you level quicker.

Now, take fletching for example. You can cut your own trees, spin your own bowstring, and you'll be able to level. Some people spend money on the logs, bowstring, or flax, so they can level at a faster rate. It's your own choice on how you want to level.

There's an opportunity cost for everything, including time.

  • 2 weeks later...

ok you all made valid points(I'm glad a few ppl agree that construction is ridiculously expensive) and i didn't realize that it actually was POSSIBLE to grow construction levels without spending money.

What i was mainly trying to get across was that raising a skill isn't something you should have to spend money on. that's all i really wanted to say, and i also wanted to see if anyone could come up with a way that jagex COULD have let you own a house without making a whole other skill. ;)

Would you rather the RS economy get even more inflated..? Construction is a GREAT money-drain, it's going to help the RS economy in the long run. unless you WANT things like bowstrings to be 500 gp each.. *shivers*..

One can easily get levels without spending money useing clay and limestone.

Also there is no definition of a skill in RuneScape that makes requirements for each one. I have gotton level 20-40 (seeing as 40 was earned lately it might not come up on highscores) and the only money i have spent was about 100k for a few rooms and building things that i plan to keep for a long time in my house.

As my construction level is so low, I cannot be sure of this but I'm quite sure you can actually get quite a chunk of money out of this eventually. My theory is that if you buy a monster that drops good you can peacufully train there without a chance of loseing your money. As a perfect example getting a steel dragon in your dungeon could get you millions back if you're lucky enough to get one of their famous dragon drops. Correct me if they don't drop items in your house.

You could also compare construction to firemakeing, you need lots and lots of money to start it off, but when you get it nice and high you get to make profit/have fun (in firemakeing's case the profit would be the temple rebuilding min-game).

Just my two cents.

It is possible to get to level 99 collecting your own materials to level.. Except you need to buy a house for 1000gp. But after that you collect planks in the wilderness, and smith your own nails :)

Might take a while but you can still do it!

You can just use Limestone or clay..And you ask WHY its a skill..Its for a money drain..and it worked

If you don't like it..Don't train it?

Not only do they have no drops at all, they don't give exp either.

This skill was brought in to take money from all those who are incredibly lazy and have used high alching as a source of income.

It was also made to allow those with vast riches to show their wealth. Why should a level 30 that has no money be allowed to show wealth?

Um, high alching might be easy, but its also very boring...and to actualy make money from it, you have to gather some of your own supplies..So dont tell me that high-alcher's are lazy...

this is a double post...im sry, sue me..

anyway, lets say jagex wouldnt of added construction, and just added poh's....instead of gaining the lvl to build the new things, you would buy them from a shop or something, and then guess what...it would be totally dependant on money...thats right...and ppl would then think that it would be worthless to spend their money on thrones and stuff, because u can't sell em back for a profit like you can rares, and anyone can buy them if they have the money. Now you not only have to have the money, but also the construction level. This is indoubtly the reason construction is a skill.
