Since I myself study sciense aswell, 3% is alot. You say: lvl 1 - 60 is inaccurate.. and you say that 60+ is 3% inaccurate. Well, it could just be me, but if 'all' your answers are inaccurate, then the formula simply isn't right. It might be something to try, but round off. Nobody actually uses formulas that aren't round off. Oh and last but not least. Prices of rares grow exponentially, besides, prices of rares fluctuate a lot - you can only determine long-term trends and I'll show that even those seem to fluctuate. Over historic data of mid 2005 to start 2006, the prices grew roughly with the equation 1.005^x. However, the past half year they grew roughly with the equation 1.0085^x, much faster then the other trend (x = number of days passed). This shows that either rares have been growing much faster nowadays, or rares will grow much slower the rest of the year. The value of my bank at its height. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 250 billion+.Most likely the largest trade in RuneScape ever. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 70 billion+. dark_lord_fil Posted June 30, 2006 Share Posted June 30, 2006 I really don't see why you would want to use a quartic regression curve, it would seem much more appropriate to use a curve tha increases over its entire length, for example an exponential curve. A quartic will at some point bend the other way, to have a negative gradient, although this will probably be in an irrelevant region. Infact you could probaby achieve a good looking curve with any higher even order you wanted. With regards to the impossibility of the quintic formula, this is I believe true. The calculator does not use a formula it uses a numerical aproximation method, probably with succesive iterations of Newton-Raphson or similar methods. Also can't you use your USB connector to send that graph to your computer as an image? And actually Casio is much better than TI :D Remember your country code, and SHUT THE GATES! tewas Posted June 30, 2006 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Lagrange Interpolation is basicly n-th degree polynomial function that represents curve going thru all the data points, in the smothest posible way (so that curve has a derivative at any given point). it's used for estimating something based on previuos, known data. i wouldn't do only 4th degree polynomial for experience, it has way too big error for corect estimations. more about Lagrange is on google, who's intresting 1500+ total 89 cmb; 1600+ total and under 93 cmb. 02/04/07 reached all skills 60+ under lvl 90 cmb. 07/19/07 reached all skills 70+ at lvl 93 cmb.Prayer is good for herbs Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bear in mind that this produces a polynomial expression of degree 4. I'd like to put a caveat on this formula. Goobore Posted June 30, 2006 Share Posted June 30, 2006 There have been a lot of posts on the Experience vs Level formula and using Search can reveal a wealth of information. Nevertheless... The Experience vs Level equation appears to follow this function from "Phil". I don't know where Phil got that equation. A post by Wallyweams explained how to manipulate Phil's formula into a more conventional form. Basically, the steps are: 1) Replace Floor(Stuff) with (Stuff + 1/2) The Floor function throws data away so we have to add back in a sort of average value for what was thrown away. 2) Perform the Sum function (that's the funny looking E thingy) using formulas from here. 3) Clean up the resulting expression and you end up with Exp ~= A*2^(L/7) + B*L^2 + C*L + D In other words, the proper form of the Experience vs Level function is an exponential plus a polynomial. The constants A, B, C, and D come straight from Phil's formula. The trouble with this answer is that it's not 100% accurate so we need to do step 4 4) Do a "Least Squares" curve fit on the basic form from step 3. The idea here is that we need to fix what we did in step #1. We do that by adjusting the values of A, B, C, and D until we get good results. Wally went ahead and did that except he went and made it perfect all the way to over level 126 (which is where the 200 million experience cap is). To do that he increased the polynomial until it was 5th degree. His final form that gives 100% accuracy is: I have modified the continuous form of the skill experience formula to exactly match Phil's formula up to level 132. (Btw, level 132 is about 342 million experience for a single skill) The modified formula is: Experience = floor(A*(2^(L/7)-2^(1/7)) + B*L^5 + C*L^4 + D*L^3 + E*L^2 + F*L + G) Where L is the Level. So now it's an exponential function plus a 5th degree polynomial with A = 720.533673767946 B = 3.54298390625729e-09 C = -1.0176384179772e-06 D = 9.69859806900786e-05 E = 0.121741672963253 F = -0.2074127222877 G = 0.139103528112173 This matches 100% with the 100 known Runescape exp values, and matches Phil's values for levels 101 to 132. This version of the formula shows us a few things -- It's basically an exponential function -- the needed experience, roughly, doubles every 7 levels. That means if you have level 50 in a skill then you have to earn, roughly, all of that experience all over again just to reach level 57. We could also use other functions for the formula (polynomial, rational polynomials, exponential of a polynomial, etc) But Wally's form is nice because it is derived straight from Phil's form. That is, it's a continuous form of Phil's equation. Now that we know a continuous form of the function that suggests that the inverse of the function would be logarithmic. For example, here is an inverse Experience function. Let E be your experience Then compute x = naturallog(E+1) The your level is approximately Level = (A*x^5 + B*x^4 + C*x^3 + D*x^2 + E*x + 1)/(F*x^4 + G*x^3 + H*x^2 + J*x + 1) where A, B, C, D, and E are 0.00565991302624555 -0.0980045250107375 0.683889491465737 -2.15204562908116 2.48782566542775 and F, G, H, and J are 0.000567384324887069 -0.00650538625289637 0.0415346760409815 -0.201061667538983 The inverse Experience function is nice because it tells you how far you are through a level. (Although there are easier ways to do that) For the inverse function we use the Natural Log function to "straighten out" the curve and then we fit it to a ratio of polynomials. A ratio of polynomials was used instead of a single polynomial because having a polynomial in the denominator allows us an extra amount of "wiggleness" to better fit the function. So, if anyone cares, there it is. Sorry in advance for all of the boring and confusing stuff. Hope this helps. (And yes, the numbers are ugly.) Maybe this one is a little bit easier: exp needed for lvl * 1.10411419 = next lvl (got the number by dividing the levels) example: lvl 75-76 75: 1,210,421 76: 1,336,443 now the calculations: 1,210,421 * 1.10411419 = 1,336,443 Try it with the other levels, im not kidding :P However, that number is different at the lower lvls, havent found that out yet.
