What's the deal with coins?

Featured Replies

I've never understood why people don't take coins that monsters drop. It's always baffled me.

Per year, someone would lose around 2M+ (A bit more than 5K coins left on the ground a day) by not picking up their coins; An act which takes around .5 seconds to complete.

I actually wonder how much money per year is lost due to people not picking up coin drops. Let's assume that 10K people leave 5K coins on the ground per day for a year. That would amount to 18,250,000,000 coins lost per year!

Maybe it's just me, but that seems overly wasteful. Every little bit adds up, right? So, out of the people who don't take coin drops, why don't you?

I don't take money I see on the ground because it never occurs to me that it will add up over time too much.

As us my usual mode of operation, i picked up all my coins while fighting cyclpes to get my rune defender. Many other people training with me left theirs on the ground and i picked those up as well. Though cyclopes are not even very difficult monsters, nor do they drop enourmous amounts of coins, I was able to but a d long and a d scimmy after only 2 days of fighting in the warriors giuld.

so in conclusion, you are right, the coin drops do add up nicely

Because 20-30 coins wouldn't make a difference in my bank.

i always pick up coins, any amounts, unless i have no room for them

liek omg rly?

if i just sitting there killing the same monster over and over i will pick up the coins if it drops like 50+ coins per pick up but if im just walking along and she 15gp i wont waste the time, also if it so little gp i wont

i realize many people are super rich compared to me, and i don't whine about it, but you should see that 20-30 coins is not the point, its that the 20-30 coins picked up repeatedly makes a difference, (in many peoples bank anyway)

btw, forget everything people said, and leave all your coins and such, more for me anyway... :D

Well sometimes, like at the Steel Dragons, it's nice to have an extra place to put a Dragon Bone or something worth more than a few gp.

Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.

No, but I'm sure 2 - 3M would :D

You might never think about it, but I can guarantee you that if you could somehow add up the amount of coins you left to disappear, that you would kick yourself for not picking them up (Considering the minimal effort it takes).

I just pick up the weapons that people don't pick up and sell them to the weapons store by the Catapult. An inventory full of weapons above Iron adds up to about 7k in cash per trip (Usually about 50% Steel, 30% Mithril and 10% Adamant and Iron). That, and since I got all of my tokens from killing my extra set of Rune armor with a Dragon Halberd, I got plenty of Warrior Guild tokens to work with to get me up to a Rune Defender (only have black right now) and all the weapons I pick up should be helpful as well.

And as a bonus, one day when I was training against my armor, someone aparantly forgot to pick up their Rune Full Helm, so now I have 2 of those (would be 3 but I use a Warrior Helm for armor rather than the Rune Full Helm). I'll either sell all that armor or I may end up taking a Nature Rune to them if I get really bored...

Now if it weren't for the fact that I'm out at my fathers for the weekend with kids he adopted from Poland, I'd be on Runescape right now working on that, but since I'm currently using the internet without my parents knowledge on a laptop I brought, and I'm using the Wireless Connection that someone left unprotected in one of the surrounding homes, I won't do that cause I don't trust that the connection will last... That and playing Runescape on a touch pad is kinda difficult unless you're just doing Alchemy. Then it's really easy.

don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?

Also think about this, say you're training and the monster drops herbs for example. At the point you're full and have to do a bank run, you have maybe a couple thousand in gold. Or, you could have skipped the gold and maybe had another high level herb which would sell for more/give more xp for a potion.

The 20-30 each drop adds up, that's true. But that one extra slot sometimes can be worth more.

If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.

yea. if i were to pick between a high lvl herb or 4k(that is, if i ever get that much), i would pick the herb

or at blue dragons, i would keep a hide/bone over a 3k coin drop

To some time is worth more then money...

I am one of them... at abbys and most other places I leave most coin drops. I am there for XP and whip drops.. 100k in coins over could cost me enough time for a whip drop...

As I said before ... Some people save cents to lose dollars..

To all their own

i pick up all coins i find on ground ^-^ im a penny pincher

Very true. Efficiency may mean you lose out on small drops in the short run, but if by training you reach a higher realm of play (ie. high slaying), then in the long run it would definitely be to your benefit.

RSN: Greedom1 | QP 248+ | Combat 116 | Total 1920+ | Skills 95 craft, 99 farm, 88 herb, 91 mage, 85 slayer

Values? What do they mean?

I confess I have gone from a penny pincher to a coin dropper. Some monsters might drop a few hundred coins that are worthwhile to pick up (at one session I might pick up 2-3K). However, when I'm down killing Hill Giants for limpwurt roots, I generally have a full inventory of runes and gems *way* before I've gotten all the limps I want. But after being down there an hour, I have maybe 300 gp meticulously picked up. A single limp is worth more to me than that, so at the end, I grab the last limp and the cash goes on the floor.

I also used to stock loads of grey wolf fur (thieved from Ardougne) in my bank, and sell them in Varrock to the fur trader. 3360 gp seemed like a lot of money to me then. Now it's pocket change (not that I'm rich - far from it!), and just not worth the time it takes.

Food for thought.

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.

Lol cause High Levels Dont care About Picking up 5gp when they have 10+ Mill in the bank :P

As long as it's over 75gp, I pick up the money.

I too make a good amount of money left behind by lazy players. :D

Heck I make 10k on a greater demon slayer task just by picking up gp.

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

i find i make the most money when i used to get harpie tasks.

(Quit: tallest please come to the death altar, give me 1,337,000,000 gp, a golden tinderbox, and a spade, also steal one of zidanes phats and give it to me.

Avarage coins per drop is about roughly 30? So thats like 170 piles of coins has to be picked up, right?

So... You said 2 years... Thats 730 days... SO, that is 124100, the number of time you have to waste 1 sec for picking up... (You said .5 but its atleast 1 sec, lad. :))

So that is 124100 seconds,

which is 2068 minutes,

which is 34 hours...

In 34 hours you could make easily 40k nature runes, which is about 13m...

YOU said 2m by picking, I say 13m by not picking.

ok you need to get your facts straight:

ill do your maths for you seeing as you cant:

1. each coin drop is around 30 a monster

2. average time one player plays a day 3 hours

3. time it takes to kill one monster 3 mins

assuming these facts are correct here is the new figure:

1800 coins are left on the floor a day

655k a year in coin drops (Assuming they play every day)

from your fact of 10k pepole playing thats 6552 million left on the floor a year

THAT SEEMS A LOT!!

now for some more maths :P

now to say .5 second a drop is not entirley true :^o :shame: it takes 3 mins to kill them remember so its not .5 seconds its 3 mins (not including the second it take to pick up the coin and i am not going to include it.. its insignificant)

so for 65520 minutes of play thats 655k <.<

(113 days and you get 655k!)

no compare this money makeing way to wich you can make 1 mill in 1 hour (merchanting is great init  )

so for 65520 minutes of play merchanting you could earn 625 million =;

i for one DO NOT wonder why pepole leave their coins on the ground

The only time I pick up money if it is worth more than what I am picking up as my drops. If I get a better drop on my last monster, bye bye coins, hello something better.

A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.

optimizedbrokenmirrorpn.jpg

fat_hobbit22, first of all... it doesnt take 3 minutes to kill a monster... Even KQ is being killed faster...

And why you calculate with the time you kill the monster the first place...? :uhh:

He was talking about why dont ppl pick coins IF they kill the monster...

They kill the monster for xp... Not to pick up coins. Like side efect....

So i think my calculations are a little bit more exact?
