Smavey
Rs has some minor educational things- like merchandising and roleplaying (but who actually roleplays anymore on rs :P) but you no matter what you would learn sooooo much more by not playing runescape and like hanging out with friends! Then again....i'm on TET, and this summer i had a party and it was pretty flawless so who knows :o
henk333
This is nothing but a salespitch to complaining parents. Either the kids themselves show this to their parents, or they find it themselves browsing the site their kid is addicted to. The shortsighted parents will go "Hmm, it's educational, everything will be fine". Here at Jagex, we understand the importance of learning, education and experience. In our Keeping Healthy and Responsible Gaming Policy pages, we emphasize the importance of maintaining a balanced life, helping our players realise that work and study are hugely important, as is getting regular exercise, taking regular breaks from your computer and socialising away from an online environment. This example, however good their intentions are, is pretty much made up. I'm sure you can find somewhere on the site or in the rules that they advice you to take brakes, but the entire game is designed to play as long as possible. If they really meant this they could make it so that you can't be logged in for more then 2 hours at a time or at least have a message pop up warning you that you should take a break for your own health. Also the bit about friendship and teamwork isn't entirely true. You can play this entire game by yourself, find a partner for the quests on the forum and then get back into social isolation. The only thing most people learn on rs is how economy works. With rares and semi-rares, raw materials and the time it takes to gather them in comparison to money gained it's a good experience for kids. Haven't played RuneScape since 12 january 2007 and it feels great :)
Silentsurf
Runescape is based on 16th century... medievil life... Even though it's still in the fantasy world (Ice barrage in 16th century? never!) it takes many things in real life like ores and smelting, crafting stuff and leather is made out of cowhide. It's probably one of the most education MMORPGs out there. I seen many other games which aren't as education as runescape
weasel
yeah i've learnt alot about small facts such as all these ores, and crafting materials, well the real ones at least, also maths, i always calculate the amount of money/experience/time/trips/etc. and because i'm too lazy to write it down i can store multiple rather large numbers in my short term memory, which i think is the reason i'm so good at maths (not meaning to bragg, but 100% in the yearly report, top of the year *brushes dirt off shoulders* :P) Also it kept me entertained at home, and it made my day happier when i really think school is boring so helped me have something to look forward to, which is always a good thing. So i would say it has helped me along in school a lot. -= weasel =- rsname: moosewalker ~ top 10000 player :Dfull qp - always willing to chat add me... Nero
When i was about 10, playing this game on RSC, I amazed my parents by telling them a step-by-step guide on how to make bread from scratch. Yes, RS does have educational value... Vienna Raszyn Warsaw Klushino

Plod2
Well runescape has taught me the importance of cooking my food for a long enough time. Like now I know how to cook a lobster. Plod2
Also Iron+Coal= Steel??? WRONG! Coal would just be used to heat the furnace and keep it lasting. Where's the carbon? Should at least be Iron+Carbon->Steel Click for blog!Watch great videos! http://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=plod64

Who
well about the glass making...they got the sand right, but they replaced sodium chloride with soda ash (same thing?). and still they forgot that limestone is also required for it :-w The Complete MTA Handbook | Runecrafting Pouch Analysis | Mobilizing Armies Locator Index
DegenerateX
ALthough overall runescape is probably dececrating my education I did however learn that tin and copper make bronze. The basis on how Market Price is based on supply vs demand instead of hearing the same phrase from a teacher and it having no meaning. Tolerance of other people. How to set goals and achieve them (no I don't mean no lyfing). I'm being nitpicky about the good stuff, there's a ton of bad stuff but I thought I would try an optomistic approach to this article. Looking for someone to teach me how to Armadyl farm - pm me10,200th Person to Achieve 99 Magic on 1/10/
Rebdragon
I learned that.... oh who am I kidding, I havn't learned a dang thing from this game. [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series. Freesia
This was a few years back where rsc was still around and there was this fatigue system that made me realised what fatigue means. This english exam paper had a vocabulary section, where i am supposed to substitute the given word with a word with the same meaning. It was multiple choice question. The question underlined "tired', and i saw "fatigue" as one of the four choices. Bingo! i got it correct, thanks to runescape : Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(. Wachtwoord
ya it has eduction in it the problem is that the average noob (about 5 years old) dont have common sense so they complain about stuff there brains cant understand. (like how do you make glass? ) The average player is 12-14. Obviously if they are asking how to do something and not begging they want to play, but they just don't know what to do. I know I didn't know how to make glass for a long, long time. Now, it's people like you who think they are superior to others which pretty much ruin this game, not trying to insult you, telling you the truth through my eyes. And by the way, your post has nothing to do with there being education in Runescape. Rose If I don't know something, I first check it on the knoweledge base (which is pretty good now) or a fansite. I get those easy question, but with quite a long answer (I mean after that they ask, where do i find seewead, how do i get sand, etc.) very often. How do I runecraft is also a commen example. If they first searched the knowledge base (some even don't know what taht is! :wall: ) and then asked questions it would be much better. I dont want to give the impression I never help other players, I like to discus/tell them some tactics are other stuff that's not in the knowledge base. About the you-get-totally-no-social-skills, I have social skills, but the only problem is; I have (sometimes) nothing to talk about! Cuz I don't experience much, cuz i almost only play rs in my free time. But there are 3 things I really learned from this game: english, typing, and way too much slangs XD =P When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done. All skills 80+
