Top ten greatest CD's of all time

Featured Replies

I did a search, nothing came up, so i felt like I should post this,

What are your top 10 favorite cd's of all time? why?

10. Slipknot -Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., Before they were this huge mainstreem success, they were a small expirimental rock band mixing jazz, metal, and funk for one insaine package.

9. The Melvins - Houdini, Their major label debut, keeping with the melvins "pre-grunge" sound, and kurt cobain's appearance also helped add a bit more sanity, but not enough sanity to spoil the cd.

8. Dream Theater - Train of Thought, DT added more of a metal sound to this album, bringing out an insain New-Prog-Metal sound.

7. Stone Sour - Come What Ever May, keeping the thrashy grunge rock sound from there first album, they added more of a catchy sound.

6. Metallica - Master of Puppets - one of the best albums that proved you can keep a heavy thrash metal sound, while adding more progresssive elements to there soungs, plus its just plaine awesome.

5. Primus - Pork Soda, primus' darkest album, still just as insaine as usual with claypool's bass, but now the bass heavy tone allows for a very sludgy atomsphere on songs like "Bob".

4. Megadeth - Countdown To Extinction, Megadeth's post thrash album keeps the same instrument skill, but with a bit of a slowed down tempo for more catchy sound.

3. Faith no More - Angel Dust, FNM's more expirimental album, keeping the funk sound, adding a more progessive tendences for a truely amazing experience

2. Rage Against the Machine - RATM -the first true "rap-metal" album. whether it be Tom's one of a kind guitar work, or the odd funk sound, i cant stop listening to it.

1. Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle, the album that changed my outlook on music, once you hear this, you will either be scared, confused, or in love... and I'm one of the later.

It would not be unjust to compare the cleaning of this thread to removing a growth.

LP & apinagez: Find a better way to carry out your argument with each other. Hijacking a thread to have your argument will not be tolerated. It's not fair to the person who started the topic and it's childish.

Everyone please keep their posts on topic.

Well, then. I'll put it differently. Surely some discussion is encouraged on this forum, as it is a forum after all. And as it is related to the topic it isn't off topic either.

LP, could you explain to me why you always say "Pink Floyd" and "Dark side of the Moon", on nearly every thread related to music. Is this all the music you listen to? Or do you honestly think that Dark side of the Moon outrules all other music? Why can't you just put a normal list with 10 albums, or a little more like everybody else?

if you look at alot my my music related posts, I usually say "Mr. Bungle", "The Melvins" or "Primus" ALOT. but those are my two favorite bands and I REALLY love to listen to them, more than alot of other stuff. But then again, I usually need to explain about them and add to the discussion since few people have herd of those bands.

Tallest: Daan's first reply and my first reply, quoting Daan, weren't flaming at all. I think you should reconsider their removal.

Daan: that's pretty much my point, which has triggered all the flame war.

"they care less about their spelling mistakes then I." - Lionheart

"apinagez... let me

Some of my favorites, I think should be in top 10:

In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3 - Coheed & Cambria

Abbey Road - The Beatles

A Night At The Opera - Queen

Presence - Led Zeppelin

Master of Puppets - Metallica

Dookie - Green Day

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf

hmm.. in no direct order at all:

Dream Theater- Octavarium

An amazing CD with probaly one of my favorite songs, Octavarium, on it.

Mayhem- Dawn of the black hearts.

Not so much the content on it (although it does have it's share of very good songs, albit the horrible quality of it) but just the history behind the album. One of the richest backstorys behind any album IMO.

Edguy- Hellfire Club

Edguy's best CD by far. Not the stuff they are today, this was good metal. Great CD not to be overlooked.

Nightwish- Once

Contains the one song that got me into metal (Wish I had an angel). The entire CD is filled with amazing songs as well.

Heloween- Keeper of the seven Keys 1

Personaly I think this was at the peak of Helloween's career. An amazing CD from a (once amazing) band.

Iron Maiden- Rock in Rio (live)

My favorite live CD. The crowd was everything a band could want. huge and livly. Just listening to some of the songs (Fear of the Dark live is amazing, by far.) is amazing. But than again a crowd that big singing in unison with the band usualy is.

Sonata Arctica- Reckoning Night

My favorite album from probaly my favorite band. Has it's share of great songs and overall was a huge boost over past albums.

Therion- Sirus B

Just wow. This album (along with the next) show therion at their best. Released as a double album (but technicaly different albums) these are symphonic metal as its best. "The wonderous world of Punt" from this album can brighten up my day no matter how gloom.

Therion- Lemura

The other side of therions double album. Just as amazing as Sirus B with many memorable songs.

Rhapsody- Symphony of Enchanted lands Pt. II

A great rhapsody album, thats for sure. Very epic and I love the narative behind it. Is a must to listen from begining to end.

That's about all I can think of.

This is a tricky one, but in no real order...

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles

Boston - Boston

Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin

By The Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

Grace - Jeff Buckley

Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd

Who's Next - The Who

(What's The Story) Morning Glory - Oasis

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

top 10 cds.. how can no one say

Michael Jackson - Thriller

homerhc6.jpg

Respect- Oy_the_Great, Lode, Bubsa, Weezcake, Thrash111, Gloric, Vmser, Pianofrieak2, Runemetsa

Sigs Made By - Pink

I have not heard enough different albums, nor do I have diverse enough taste in music to post a legitimate reply, so I'll just say:

Atom Heart Mother

That is an exeptional, underrated album. 2 masterpieces, 2 near-masterpieces, and an entertaining ditty on the end. Would place easily in my top 10, but as I said, I'm not going to bother.

bestsiggycopy5bo.jpg

Hrm... this is tricky, but from 10 to 1...

Theatre of Tragedy - Velvet Darkness They Fear

Oomph! - Wahrheit oder Pflicht

Aina - Days of Rising Doom: The Metal Opera

Within Temptation - Mother Earth

Sonata Arctica - Reckoning Night

Ayreon - The Human Equation

Epica - Consign to Oblivion

After Forever - Remagine

Nightwish - Oceanborn

Haggard - Eppur Si Muove

(Might post explanations later, tired now -.-)

honestly i can't be bothered to buy CD's lately. My top list would include something like

Stevie Wonder: Greatest Hits

Tupac: Greatest Hits

Art Tatum's Solo Masterpieces

Tupac: Better Dayz

Garth Brooks: Double Live

Linkin Park: Reanimation

Rent: Movie Soundtrack

only things that come to mind atm

- Only character in Runescape History maxed out in RSC and RS2

x843.png

In no particular order (and not exactly 10 but rather the magical number 7 :P)

1. The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King Movie Soundtrack

2. Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

3. Nightwish - Oceanborn

4. Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth

5. Ayreon - The Human Equation

6. Avantasia - Avantasia

7. Iron Maiden -Brave New World

Yeah I'm sure there are others. But the one I mentioned are definitely outstanding.

"Metal isn't about violence or faggy whiny lyrics. It isn't even about who plays the heaviest and fastest. It is about invoking a sense of wonder and magnitude that no other genre can depict."

bluarosezk0.jpg

It took me a long time to get over the idea of brutally forcing all the great albums in the world into narrow topten hole. But finally, in no particular order, 10 if not best, but very good albums IMO:

(from all genres)

System of a down - toxicity

a perfect alternative metal album. Genious.

Oasis - Definitely maybe

Bible of brit rock

Radiohead - ok computer

I don't even need to explain this. REALLY.

Queens of the stone age - rated R/songs for the death

Outstanding albums in their full simplexity

Gorillaz - demon days

perhaps the best overall album ever made. art.

Rammstein - mutter

This album completely showed me what metal can be when it gets to the very best.

Beck - Odelay

simply genious album. No words can describe.

Sparklehorse - It's a wonderful life

tou can listen to this thousand times and it still is an huge experience every single time.
