So.. remember my thread about not wanting to join basketball

My mom forced me back in it and I absolutely cannot stand it.

I have no friends on that team.

I do everything wrong.

The games are sooo long...

I've lost all interest in playing, period.

But I can't quit, noooo. :(

My family thinks it's just a waste of talent. And if I do end up quitting, I'll just regret it all. I don't have much to do afterschool anyway, but basketball isn't exactly what I want to do.. :?

Anyone else ever been forced into a sport?

Yeah.

I've been forced into a sports family.

Sucks man.

Yeah.

My parents used to do this to me (and they still do). My dad is always saying I'm wasting my athletic talents even though I'm planning to do something I love. All my dad wants me to do is practice sports and try to get a college scholorship (and I know I'm not good enough for a scholorship). I finally just stopped playing sports. I mean, I play an occasion game of golf with my dad but I don't play like I did a few years ago (enough to destroy my social life for a decent amount of time). I think you should tell you mom how you feel and whether she wants you to or not, just quit. Turn in your jersey and say screw it. There's no point in doing something you hate if you don't have to. That's like being on Fear Factor (is that even on the air anymore?) and continueing to eat something nasty even after you've lost. There's really no point in doing it.

If your so bad at it then it wouldn't be a waste of talent?

And would regretting quiting be worse than all the stuff you don't like about it?

practice basketball and the sport would become fun for u

btw, if u said u do "everything" wrong, how did u make the team through tryouts? :?

Sounds like bad parenting. Then again we are only hearing the story from your point of view. For all we know your parents might actually have a valid reason for doing this, but we can't tell. Online forums are probably a bad place to.. ask for advice? I'm not quite sure why you posted this so I don't know if you're asking for advice or what?

Practicing doesn't make a sport fun. Sure, it's fun to show off for the opposite sex, but no matter how good you are, it can still be boring as hell. And now all schools have tryouts for teams. In my school some sports have tryouts and others don't, but those that don't only let the best players actually play in games.

In my opinion, the only reason to play a sport is because it's fun. What are you doing it for otherwise? Yes, I've been forced into playing sports by my parents, but I just had to sit them down and tell them that I didn't much care for them. Sure, they were disappointed in me, but I didn't care. You can always show them that you're much more suited for something else.

Bad advice.. If he takes up skateboarding he's just a poser. And it seems to me jocks get more girls than skaters since skaters tend to fall into the who emo scene. (No, we're not starting an emo bashing session here.). Most preppy girls are hot, it's harder to find an emo girl that's hot. If he wants to go skater, I'll support him just so long as he isn't just becoming a poser. Though he'd better not become emo all of a sudden.

rather than looking at it as a bad thing, try playing with a good attitude. if your attitude stays negative all the time, it'll only get worse. try playing with a positive attitude, and maybe you'll like it. Plus, whats wrong with making new friends?

if worse comes to worse, talk to your coach and try to enlist his help in getting you out

join a club like band or join scouts or something

skateboarding? It depends on what kind of person you are

Quit and do a real sport, like fencing or rifle shooting.

Advantages for you?

- Teams are smaller, so it's easier to make friends.

- You have the option to participate in individual events.

- It's more fun to practice, and more rewarding to be good at.

- For fencing, matches are fast-paced. For rifle shooting, you don't have to move around too much.

- Playing with weapons is more manly than chasing a sweaty guy with a ball.

Disadvantages?

- None. If football jocks want to make fun of you for doing either sport, you can always remind them that you are capable of killing them.

Tell her that you think a little break from it would do you good.

Since when did having a girlfriend become all about being her being hot? I'd take an ugly girl with a great personality any day. For those of you who think otherwise, I think a good look at this book might change your mind

Yeah, thats all fun and good, but i dont see how you can have a good relationship unless youre actually attracted to eacher. Its not everything but it isnt trivial either.

And anyways, since when does one take up a sport just to get a girl... . Fairly lame in my eyes, same if you skateboard just because you think "it'll get you chicks".

Sorry to pull this off topic but..

I only let my standards slip so far before I flat out say no to a girl. Yeah, I've been asked out my some pretty ugly girls. No, I didn't give them a chance. Shallow? Probably, but I wasn't attracted to them at all. Without at least some attraction a relationship would never work out for me. I'd wind up getting smacked/dumped for looking at other girls or I'd end up cheating. There's a lot of girls in my school I am physically attracted to but I'm, erm, tied down at the moment so they can wait. Of course I love a girl with a great personality, but I'd hope the body is just as good.

I got forced into football (American) this year. Normally I would enjoy it, but this year I had lost all interest in it.

It really sucks.

But, yesterday I did quit for the hell of it.

The coach asked who was not playing next year, and I just walked out of the fieldhouse and got a schedule change. lol

Well, I'd offer some advice, but I'm really not sure I can relate.

I play sports, and I enjoy them, I was never forced into them. My dad was forced to play sports as a kid and he is paranoid about doing the same to me.

But I suppose if you don't enjoy it, explain that to your parents. Maybe there is a sport you do like though, just try to have an open mind.
