Wii Sports.... and then nothing until Christmas

If you have internet acess, you could download virtual console games to play if you have a Gamecube controller or "classic" controller. They cost Wii points though, and the word is that you get about 2000 already on the console. Don't hold me to that though.

Pretty much the only reason I'm going to go ahead and buy the console without any extra games :P

I haven't really looked at the game library too much, but will they have N64 games like Majora's Mask?

Oh, and the DS demos were another reason :P It's like free games! :o

I don't think you'll find the DS demos to be ready for a while, cos some of the Wii channels will not be running until early next year. But yeah, you can download the following games at launch from the Wii shop:

NES: Baseball, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Ice Hockey, Mario Bros., Pinball, Soccer, Solomon's Key (Tecmo), Tennis, The Legend of Zelda, Urban Champion, Wario's Woods.

SNES: Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, SimCity

N64: Super Mario 64

SEGA MEGA DRIVE: Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Gunstar Heroes, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar, Dr. Robotonik̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Mean Bean Machine

Turbografx (PC Engine): Bonk̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Adventure, Super Star Soldier, Victory Run, Bomberman̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢93, Dungeon Explorer

Thats the launch list, but Nintendo reckon they can put out several more every week.

I'm not gunna waste money on a console, I rarely play consoles. I just like computer games much more. No need to waste $250 on a Wii.. to me, looks like one of those crap things you get for christmas for 30 bucks and you have fun the first time you play it, and you never play it again.

It is indeed innovative, but that's very different to it being an experimental release.

I might be wrong, but personally I find the idea of controller-with-movemental-control (or whatever it is called) quite revolutionary, and as experimental I meant that afaik nothing like this has been tried before with this scale, so I'd take it as a large-scale experiment to see if the world of gaming is ready to move on to new dimensions of gaming.

Thousands of Arcade machines have worked using similar technology for decades. Hell, Duck Hunt used a really basic version of it.

It is not brand spanking new, but it is new in what it has brought to console gaming.

That or you have ADD or something. Zelda's supposed to take 80+ hours to beat. And if you call $250 too expensive, what would you call $600?

Anyways - I'm about as excited as you can get for the release. I'm heading to Wal-Mart tomorrow to wait for the midnight release. I played the wii for my first time today actually. Now I really want to just own it. This 28 hour time span until midnight tomorrow is going to take soo long. :P

While motion sensing isn't a new technology, and has been used before, Duck Hunt didn't use it. It was all about reading the switch between light. Right after you shoot, the screen goes black, and you can see a white duck on it. The gun just reads the change of light. I just read an article on it, I'll see if I can find it again.

I used to have a Gameboy Color with a huge collection of games, like 150 games on 1 thing. I got it from my aunt and uncle who were in Japan. Anyways, it had Baseball, Tennis, and Soloman's Key on it. They were all awesome games. Super Mario 64 is also one of the, if not the best game I have ever played.

I did say really basic. Change of light and such what not - the concept still plays on the use of an external device that you point at the screen no different to the wiimote ;)

Motion or change of light, it still works very well.

Even I think the Wii looks interesting but am I going to waste $250 on a console with very few if any adult games? Im not into sports games either.

So if the PS3 had games that could be played by anyone, and no adult games, you'd still buy the PS3, right?

Thats about as poor a point as you can get.

True, that. I think I read the same thing on wiki a while back - about how light guns have changed. Nowadays it is slightly different though; back in ye olden dayes you could just point it at a lightbulb and you'd win.

I look forward to the Nintendo Wii. Xbox 360 and PS3 look too expensive for me. Even then PS3 wont be released in Europe until after March. Nintendo Wii looks good as I am a fan of most of their series. Twilight Princess looks excellent. Cannot wait for Super Smash Bros Brawl.

I wont get a Wii on release date. But its at the top of my Christmas list. :D

pre-ordering mine on the 21st of november from amazon and will get it delivered on the morning of the 8th 8-)

Great minds think alike.

Anyway, I'm planning on getting Zelda (of course), Wii play and an extra nunchuck. Then at christmas, i'll hopefully get another remote, nunchuck and Red steel. My birthday is in January, so that will count for Wario Ware and that last remote.

And for those of you who don't know what Wario Ware is, it is a Fast-fire minigame collection that is off it's tiny little head.

cor thats a good idea, getting the extra controllers for christmas....hmm, i might just do that then =P

Every person I know, and I'm not exaggerating. EVERY person I know would buy a Wii over a 360 or PS3.

Same with me

adult games

"Adult games" are overrated. If I want to see someone stealing cars and beating up/raping prostitutes I'll watch America's Most Wanted.

Yeah, we regularly have conversations about next-gen. We all agreed that we'd only get one just for it's party value, basically just for SSB:B.

If I play a game, I want it to be visually pleasing and not just "Hey look when I flick my wrist he jumps!". Wii smells like novelty and party value to me.

Is a DS a waste of money too?

Yeah, i'm happy with my PSP that can do so much more.

Heck, i wish. My point is that you shouldn't make a statement like that when you haven't tried it yet.

Uhhhhhhhhh.......... DUH! Didn't you know, playing violent games makes you look COOL and MATURE?!

Seriously though, it's funny how some people have that mentality. Video games ARE video games. Playing a rated M game still doesn't change the fact that you're still playing a video game. I've played Halo 2 online and even when it's rated M, it's still full of kids with cracking voices.
