Is this game taken too seriously?

Featured Replies

Playing RuneScape is something to do when you have nothing else to do.

If a person calls you up, do not say no because you want to play the game.

In the end you will continue to play this game because you have no one to be with after school/job whatever because you denied people to much.

Myself started this game around somewhere in 2001, before xmas crackers.

This game takes so much time of our lives. People need to know when to put their real life infront of their e-life. In the end when this game is over you will have nothing,

My addict to this game is going for an end, which im glad for.

Think about the hours for each day, week, month, year you play, shorten the hours playing each day will make a huge diffrence.

I think it's ok if you say no to going out sometimes with your friends. I mean, as long as it's not *EVERYTIME*. Some people use RS to unwind from a hard days\week of work, and would like to relax.

[Admin Edit: No naming names in a negative light]

Mhm, I think it is taken way too seriously. Some random noob yells around that he got pked and lost something is totally freaking out over it. Some high levels that have played quite a while went nuts when they got hacked or scammed out of a huge pile of cash.

I can't play that long since I'm in college and have tons of flute recitals, especially with MPA coming up. I play none to 3 hours a day...Now I even think 3 hours is long on a weekday, but it's your life, not mine. You chose what you want to do and that includes playing however many hours you want.

And yes, people take this game too seriously. They freak out over a game and not when their pets die. (or something that used to be precious to them before they got super-addicted to RS)

ON BREAK

its called not having a life or being competative... but some people can't have lives...they are just not social people and would rather stay at home then go out and get made fun of and stuff...o well tho.

It's fun now but when you're older you'll wish you hadn't wasted so much time. I can't even imagine playing 10 hours a day. On a weekend I'll sleep 10 hours, so that only leaves 4 hours left of a day. That'd be over 70% of your waking day being spent on runescape. I guess the other 30% is spent on basic needs like eating and cleaning yourself.

That's incredible.

RS is taken lifes of many inclueding me. I loss track of time when I play unless im training a non combat skill. It bugs me when people get into fights over the game, there is a certain point in which the game can be taken to far. Many people take it to far.

People end up making new word forms of newb. Like nub, which sounds like rub, so how does that sound like newb. Froob, Im not even going to ask on that one. Out of my about 7 years playing, Iv never seem so much stupid fighting between people. Get a life, get out side the basement. Go and talk to people. Again there is a certain point till the game isnt fun anymore...

the only thing I find more interesting about real life than rs are girls and less lag.

It's school holidays now, i got nothing to do, so i play 10+ hours a day. I hate socialising anyway. Somehow in game friends are much better than some of my rl friends.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

I could care less about real life to be honest lol, I'm a Christian and I believe I'd just go to Heaven anyways so real life is sort of a waste of time. I'm a good looking guy if I do say so myself, but I don't really care much about life. Too crazy, insane, stupid, unfair, etc. I'm also 16, and I prefer staying away from the whole teenage thing. You know, the whining about losing a girlfriend thing, getting drunk/smoking and acting like an idiot, the "clicks" of categorized people at school, being an "Emo" kid, being a "Gangster" which is utterly stupid since rock and roll is where it's at. 8-) I personally find that having a girlfriend isn't very fun either. :-#

I like being alone, and Runescape helps with that. <3: Although I have to admit...following rules all of the time is really frustrating.

i play around 2-5 hours a day generally, but i also wouldn't say im addicited either, i wouldn't chocie playing rs over finishing homework i know i cant finish during school hours, if a friend wants to come over or wants me to come over i wont play runescape, but generally runescape is basicly a funnier tv

if people chocie runescape over friends, grades, and obeying there parents, then i think they might have a problem

legends2.jpg

Of course this game is taken too seriously... Look at the people that freak out about losing 400k or some random amt of money.. Personally i don't care all too much for me its just a "GAME"... Its kinda like life GP (money) will come and go... I don't play all too much anymore .... I have been tryin to lvl i mainly play on the weekends if i am not hanging with friends or being a complete weirdo on my bike... But some more than others take this "GAME" way too seriously.... I play to have fun and kill some time....

Well, it all depends on people's opinions, some take it seriously some do not.

I personally find the real life as important as RuneScape. I'm annoyed because RuneScape is laggy. Well, that's my opinion, I take them both as seriously. I see no reason of taking RuneScape too seriously.

And yes, I do play over 10 hours a day.

Sometimes life can be a little laggy, like the last half hour before quitting time (school or work) for instance.

tokin rite wurx gud!

anytime the following question format appears the answer will always result in the following responses

"is ______ taken way to seriously?"

if the blank is say a sport...say rugby for instance...and you ask an american this...of course they will say no...ask a person who lives and breathes it and thats all they know then of course your answer is going to be different

look at the high scores for instance look on the first page of a skill and the last page of skill...im sure any random name from each of those pages will have an entirely different viewpoint of how serious they take this game

eh but hey what do i know?

yeh because if you take the last page of overall and ask them they will prob be like "its just a game" and the first page will be like " runescape is a hugee part of my life"

anyway if your first page in anything that means you loved the game to a high value at some point and in general the last page unless the account just started a week ago the last page doesn't really care about it that much.

Inyuasha said he played 72 straight hours of runescape to reach #1 hunter.

That's unhealthy. Not in the tradition sense of that word--biologically speaking it's incredible he didn't die of exhaustion. Without sleep for about 104 hours you need to be in excellent condition to maintain homeostasis. It is likely that if someone plays for 72 hours they naturally wouldn't be as concerned with their physical condition: at least not to the extent to survive 100+ sleepless hours. I'm not trying to be belittling right now. I respect everyones' lifestyle choices as his or her own. Honestly I am just concerned for the guy's health.

I think it is good to have RS as a competitive stimulant, it can actually be beneficial to one's academic and logistic skills. However, I don't think 72 hours can be appropriated by any goal, whatsoever.

If someone plays too long I have two explanations:

1) He/She is addicted, call help NOW!

2) He/She probably have nothing to do. Like me. I play 3-5 hours on a school day (much more in vactions...) and I'm not addicted. I talk with my friends in school, through phone and sometimes *gasp* through RuneScape ( :uhh: ) Now if you give me something else and intresting to do, I'll gladly log off RuneScape and do it. But sadly I dont have anything much to do than watch the History Channel. :P

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

siggy3s.jpg

I think that maintaining healthy playing habits, and taking breaks every hour or two is good. So say after a while go outside for a while or maybe just do something less straining on your eyes. I however think playing 10+ Hours a day, or 72 hours straight is nothing to be proud of, and also should have some serious health problems.

I've been playing runescape almost 6 years now. I've never played more than 3 hours a day. Most of the time, less than 10 hours a week. And I watch all the TV I ever watch whilst on runescape.

All my RL friends who played were the same. I'll never understand why able bodied people play more. It's just a computer game, there's a whole world out there. :?
