jagex openly degrading f2p?

Featured Replies

as many of you may have seen the new ads showing "rules" above the game screen, now it has turned to member advertisements, thats all good, just a new advertisement. But wait! what do i see? oh just the example of f2p and p2p, wait! the p2p example in dragon amour? thats nothing un usual you may say, but then you see the f2p example, a man holding a broken toy, and you think, so jagex is showing in there advertisments that f2p is nothing but a broken toy? and p2p are all people in shining armour?. So now jagex is degrading f2p instead of just using it to promote p2p, what will they do next? openly mock the f2pers on world 1? jagex, openly degrading f2p is not making them want to buy members.

Apparently I am 24 yrs old, live in Cali have a fertility problem with a guy name Ken.

I guess it could be thought of as a creative advertisment. Someone playing on free play could see it and think, "Wow, you mean I could get THAT?". It might be useful for someone that just joined the game. But I would have to agree with you, it seems more of an attack at free players.

A level 88 with a dream....

You're getting the free version of the game so they can do anything to degrade f2p.

How can you say that! I'm FTP and I think that Jagex have been upgrading it more than ever before and I'm very appreciative. Think, we got plenty of graphical updates and we were lucky enough to get the stronghold of security. Not to mention we get to buy some of the stylish new treasure trail stuff'. AND don't forget we are allowed to join in with the holiday events.

Some people are just so unappreciative.

why dont you use this awesome thing i like to call common sense. Its done wonders for me, ive never been hacked, scammed or anything like that.

Yeah... it's not really fair to paint f2pers as poor freeloaders, and somehow inferior to p2pers. We all have our own reasons not to pay, and we still all contribute to the RS community, which should be important to Jagex. As if we needed more evidence that Jagex doesn't love us

Its still a pretty nasty thing to do and there probably discouraging people to play there game.

This is messed up.

Jagex is in essence abandoning it's f2p player base. All the f2p updates are to keep newbs from quitting(I don't know where I am, i lost all my stuff, i quit) and to teach them the rules(stronghold). Now they're looking to make sure that all newb f2pers fully and completely understand how much better p2p is.

To them, the only worthy players are the p2pers. F2pers are only potential p2pers. I just wish they would respect those who have been playing long and are satisfied with what they have. I guess those people just don't turn a profit.

Yes jagex is trying to show f2p how much better p2p is but there degrading f2p in the process, viewing f2p as a broken doll or some thing that you would usually throw away at the slightest sign of uselessness.

Umm.. Maybe look at it from JaGeX's perspective?

You are paying for the FREE game. If you want more (and to be able to boast upon a dragon armoured P2P logo) pay the money.

Meh,

Merry Christmas :P

Don't take this so seriosly. Jagex just makes reclamation for p2p, nothing else. They probalby just happened to take a picture of a f2p with a broken toy. There's no special meaning with those 2 pictures.

I'm maybe wrong, but this is what i belivie.

Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

Jagex is glorifying their product (membership) and making F2P look not as good to convince more people to buy membership. Its standard advertising, you see it everywhere nowadays.

Expecting a good life because you're a good person is like expecting a bull not to charge because you're a vegetarian.

they cant have "happened to take a picture of a f2p with a broken toy" since the picture was drawn on an art program. To oreo they can glorify members without degrading f2p so much, such as f2p sitting down bored or some thing, and members fighting a dragon, some thing like that, not some thing so harsh.

Jagex has always been trying hard to educate their players. Jagex are well aware that F2p players form the biggest community of Runescape, and educating them is as important as educating its members. Just because of a random thing shouldn't make you think that Jagex neglects the F2p players.

When I first saw the ad, I agreed with R_Q_H, but after thinking about it for awhile, it realy isnt that bad. Let me tell yall exactly what it is befor you form an oppinion.

Image 1: Kid gets $5 for Christmas

Image2: Kid splips, representing 2 choices on how to spend the money.

Image3: one of the 2 images of the kid gets clearer representing the choice to buy a new toy.

Image4: Kid pays fare for a trolly into town and gets some change back

Image5: Kid has no money left so he goes to a 2nd hand shop and gets an old tedy bear.

Image6: Back to split kids, Kid #2 grows clear representing the choice to buy a runescape membership.

Next few Images: Jagex tells of new skills, items and quests avalible only to members, with coresponding pictures.

Honestly, its not Jagex saying that F2p is brooken at all. It is simply Jagex trying to convince you that a membership is better than a $5 toy, nothing more.

Hope this play by play sheds some light on the subject.

Once an opinion is formed the truth is irelivant.

Meeh, don't bother.

That's just stupid commercials.

Reality is something really different!

"A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do"

[Currently playing: K1ll L1f3]

Yes, its not right. However i don't get ads, not because i'm p2p, but because i have a program that stops ads lol . And how is JAGex going to detect weather or not i'm blocking their ads? There not, its a stupid rule lol (well they can, but there not gonna :P). Havn't been baned in 2 years of play, never a black mark, nothing. Was offered mod but turned it down as i see to many ppl following mods around begging for stuff.

i suppose i'm lucky that some jagex ads won't work on my computer

because i don't have the software to play them. i found this out after i had reformated my computer.

back on topic, there are other ways jagex is screwing with f2p.

ie, giving out a lot of stuff(ie holiday stuff, treasure trail stuff) without sufficient bank space to hold them.

wc is in a way a useless skill for f2p because f2p can only sell the logs

for money and are unable to use the logs that they cut for fletching.

f2p does produce revenue for jagex with all those ads they have, so it would be nice if they put out another f2p quest. only 1 new quest in the last 4 since p2p came out.

Seems Like they're saying "Rags to Riches" when you buy membership. It's a good ad. =)

But to make part of the Christmas event reward P2P only is not in the Christmas spirit. :shame:

Pretty much what Dragon said.

Thread terminated.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

But to make part of the Christmas event reward P2P only is not in the Christmas spirit. :shame:

That's definitely true. If they're going to do that, they might asd well make f2p and p2p completely seperate :notalk:

To the person who f2p gets a lot of updates...

Not really. F2p got the security stronghold only because Jagex wanted to stop people from getting hacked, scammed, etc. And the graphics update... if you update the graphics on p2p, only, you'd be wasting space and time trying to keep the old one just for f2p. It's more efficient if they just changed the graphics on all the servers instead of just one...

I know that we are "FREE" to play for a reason, but still, it gets really boring after finishing all the quests. I would be satisfied if f2p got just one little mini-game...

Just right-click on the ad and select play, which should have a check-mark beside it, to stop the ads from playing. I've recently been amusing myself by Zooming in, so I can only see random flashes.

Goldflame.png

Isn't that ad more based on like 'What can you do with 5 bucks? Become a member in Runescape and get lots of items and skills, or get a cheap 'broken' toy in some store that sells toys'.
