Errdoth
I wasn't saying it as a flame comment. I was simply stating a fact. No worries. I just wanted to respond in case anyone took it literally. Is there any chance we can be filled on the process and where everything is headed, or is it something the admins are going to keep to themselves? We are still discussing the rules and how they need to be clarified on the issue of personal information in order to identify what is and is not safe to allow. [annoying] Sorry I'm being so annyoying, but do you have any idea when we can expect a difinitive answer? Ard_Choille
Wouldn't it have to be an "all or nothing" type of rule? If you allow some things, then users will complain about others that aren't allowed. If you want to be consistent you'll have to ban either all contact information or just say it is the users at risk and allow everything. Yep...both are possibilities. - - My deviantART Page - -

Considering how many years this has been AGAINST the Tip.It forum rules, I think you can wait a while. Just pretend that the rule is NOT under review and let them alone until they get back to you, eh? (Also consider that pestering the admins may not improve the chances of a positive ruling ... I'm not saying this matters, because our Admins are fair and just. I'm not a part of this decision-making process. But in my experience, parents and teachers don't generally react positively to this sort of behaviour.) Most of all, PLEASE keep this in mind: these are real people with real feelings, they are unpaid volunteers who give up their free time to help with this site for everyone's benefit, and they deserve courtesy, respect, and yes, most of all, your patience. ** DISCLAIMER: the opinions expressed here are my own and do not represent Tip.It!! ** it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*. the_tallest1
Ok everyone, after much discussion we have the decision. The rules now state the following: 1.9 - Volunteering Personal Contact Information Tip.It is a G-rated forum. For your privacy and security, asking for or volunteering certain personal contact information is not permitted. This consists of full name, city of residence, street address, telephone number(s) and password/account details. Photographs are permitted so long as they are not pictures of users, license plates, house numbers, or any of the contact information listed above. This applies to all forum posts, avatars and signatures. Posting any of the above information on private messages/forums is permissible at the user's risk. Feel free to post any questions or comments. ____
So essentially none in the public forums - at all. But we can in PM's and forums like NL and DA?
the_tallest1
Right you are. The rule only covers the public boards. Private communication and private boards such as the ones you listed are not included in the new amended rules for personal information since they are not accessible to the general public. However, users are still reminded of the potential risks of doing so even within the relative seclusion that the private boards offer. 571st to 99 Fm Nov. 4 '06 - 315th to 99 Crafting Mar. 3 '07 - 3410th to 99 Fishing Sept. 18 '0726378th to 99 Cooking Oct. 16 '07 -.- 99 Thieving Dec. 29 '07 - 1343rd to 99 Farming June 5 '081807th to 99 Agility Nov. 8 '08 - 3094th to 99 Smithing Feb. 14 '092012 total - 91 combat
Viktorkrum77
I'm glad this rule was changed. I always thought it unfair the Staff Board be given the permission to share personal photos, and not the public board. Considering someone could easily be a pedophile or want to stalk someone and be a mod at the same time. Me doing staff.
Satenza
They are still allowed to post on private boards. Unless i am not detecting your sarcasm. Can we get the reasons to this? I like to know why decisions where made if thats alright :D With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
wakka102
Well, I guess its up to the mods. I posted my pics on deloriagod site, as well as SOBD and The Slayer Guild. It's the mod's decision though even if I don't agree with it :( . (I wish I could post a pic in my blog or something...). I still stand by the idea that a picture of a user will not give away anything about you (contact info).
Militaris
Please explain why picturers of users are not allowed? In your answer keep in mind that there is significantly easier ways to source contact details and personal photos of people then internet forums like this one. Militaris
I still fail to see what harm user photo can do (No one would have to post them). We are seen every day in our life by complete strangers I do not see why 'real life' photo is such a issue.
Mercifull
Exactly, Militaris. How about all the photosharing sites like Flickr, theres literally thousands of pictures of people on there. I havnt heard any controversial stories about them... Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. wakka102
I already have pics on 3 private forums, as well as myspace where I have a couple of TIF'ers added. It wont hurt anything... I'm not saying make it so you HAVE to post a picture, its totally optional but I'd love to be able to post one in my blog or somewhere so people can see that I'm not a overwight 30 year old living in my mom's basement :P . Albosky
Alright , obviously this needs to be looked at a bit more closely lol Although I cant really just change a rule without the other Administrators approving, I'm going to say publically that I also agree that pictures should be allowed as long as location or personal information can not be obtained from them in any way. I don't know if it will help whatsoever but I dont want our users to feel like they are alone in their ideas. :) I like to fart silently but deadly in movie theatersArd Choille says (11:41 PM):I wouldn't dare tell you what to do m'dear

I'm thinking riot, how 'bout you? :-$ What I still don't understand though, is why this is a G-Rated board and we can't post pics for privacy convcerns of younger members, when, if you sign up, you have to be +13 and if you lie about your age :-$ , Tip.it has no responsibilty to that. So, why? Last.fm Signature Overlays

bambino
I to agree with you guys. There's nothing wrong with a picture, no one will be able to track another person based on a personal photograph. Well ofcourse he can see the person in question walking down the street, but then he might as well by accident hear the other's nickname in a conversation :/ I know what I know and what I know might well not be what you want to know but then seeing as only I know what I know and you do not know what I know then you will not know if what I know is what you would like to know
