sithlord_man
i would say they are "like" a skill cape because you could just be working your head off to get a p hat...then again you could be merchanting to get. then theres the fact you could have been palying since they were first dropped. so you can say it was a "skill cape" (skill hat maybe) 99 FM Acheived on Friday December 26th 2008Click for my blog|Mass Effect Discussion Thread|Nation Creation/Create your own Country Forums
primadog
it's not so much that phats are the only tradable achievement cape but achievement cape is the non-tradable phats. As OP said, achievement capes are only a year old. All I learned in life, I learned on Tip.it
hiddel
i must say that im suprised, i thought this was going to be another dumb post but i was delighted to see some of the same termanology that i learned in my econ class. aside from that you actually have a point and you backed it up with good info and for that i use this emote =D> the only thing i have to add to the convo is that phats werent always so expensive. back in classic when i got 85 mining i had the opprotunity to buy multiple phats but laughed at every offer because i would rather have used my ores for my own smithing(which i did). the point is that not everyone did that, alot actually bought the hats when they where nearly worthless. the players who choose to keep these know have a large fortune on their head which may indicate they are rich, or that in the drop of a hat, they could be(pun definately intended). skill capes will always display a great level of diligence. blacksimon
Lets lay this down, plain and simple. One can buy a red P hat for around 800usd, and BAM, what do you know? he put in no work to get a party hat. Comare this to the guy who buys 99 fm for 4m off his hard earned money and spends weeks lighting logs for that cape. AirlessWig
I rate a skillcape higher then a phat. Alot of the phats you see now are scammed or lured. Getting those 100's of millions to buy a phat requires skill and time (if it's so easy, why don't you have one?) just as 99 capes do. On Topic: I don't know or I agree with you. If phats don't rise because of the skill capes (I think this is you're point, not sure) raw materials should. But my experience says they don't, so where does all the inflation money go to then? You can't loose respect for someone you never had any respect for in the first place. This goes for anyone who stated something like this. The few people who said that they 'lost respect for me' already disliked me for one reason or another anyway - so I don't care what any of you think. The value of my bank at its height. ghostisalive
ok i agree with your analogy basically money for skill capes with some clicking :D as while you basically spend that money on a party hat. time=money so what you do in runescape time is your business i personally merchanted iron ore when i was low level like 30-40 it personally makes 50k per sell buy for 100k then sell for 150k in fally which is good but does take a while merchanting is actually just price gouging which is a illegal in real life yet celebrated here. i look up to r2-pleasant for being that good of a merchanter while i was merchanting and i still do so if you take the money from a phat and spend on a skill you could get 99 in that skill which is correct but my point is who can afford a phat? and you cant give a guy 130 mil for 99 strength i would rather have combat than a skill cape or a phat anyday. You're comparing someone who raised his skills legitly vs someone who made an illegal trade for his gold. What you should be comparing is someone who bought an account with someone who bought gold, if you're going to try and contrast them. Touchee. blacksimon
Allright, ill review my opinion here. r2 had a valid point of saying you could just buy an account with a 99 on it, the same way you could buy a p hat. Now lets look at this in a legit way *gasp*.... A phat takes around 30 days to merchant from 1m to 140m, if we do, lets say barrows sets and parts. 99 firemaking takes roughly the same amount of time, and both look just as cool as each other. Merching isnt easy, and is a pain to do (for me anyways) I hate dealing with immature people fluctuating the market.... so errrr... yeah

x_bow80
Phat = Skill cape Phat > Skill cape Skill cape > Phat Whats right? All of them. Its just who you ask.... Ask some one with a blue Phat, what would they say? Then ask some one with 99 slayer that is "poor", he might say Skill cape > Phat. Any one can merchent to get a Phat, but can one take the time it takes to get a 99 skill? Thats the real question. 99 Pics - Range, Defence, HP, Attack, Magic, Strength, Cooking

WARnold
I think you're overanalyzing the "economy". The only relation between rare prices and skilling is that people sell rares to get money for leveling skill x or y. Also, no offence, but I think your post lacked a proper conclusion.
