If you were President, what would you change/add?

If you were President, whats one thing you'd change/add?

You should have to pass a test before you have a baby. You have to take a driving test to operate vehicles and an SAT test to get into college. So why dont you have to take some sort of test before you give birth to children? When I am President, thats the first rule I will institute.

Edit: I changed my mind about the idea above. I realised something; What if they fail the test? I don't want to make them get the falcon punch. So I think this is better off just as a dying idea.

I would probably also try and eradicate poverty. But than again they're will probably be no end to it. I would like to see a lot of poverty down a knotch or two.

Really? How do you plan on doing that? (I'm NOT being sarcastic I am honestly interested in what you have planned.)

I normally don't reply to people quoting me but if you seem interested then why not :)

(US)

Don't really have a whole idea/plan for it, but I would make a law that enforces people over the age of 21 to have a job. Of course except people who have STD/LTD. And yes I understand people that have jobs, that still stand in poverty, but maybe regardless of the situation with the employee the manager/boss could give extra bonuses, for hard working people.

I wouldn't want to use goverement money, nor tax payers money, only if it gets worse, but I would like to see it all work out smoothly, and not rough.

Another thing I would change is gun control. I think anyone who does not have a high-school degree should not have the rights to owning a gun.

which country?

Most likely your respective country.

---------------

(United States)

If I had a nice long time to think about it, there's probably a lot I would change. But firstly I would require everyone to retake a driving class once every 10 years, this being required to renew your license. It's scary how many absolutely terrible drivers there are out there. I know I'm far from a perfect driver but I don't do some of the stupid [cabbage] I've seen people do..

I would also legalize stem cell research, decriminalize marijuana (legalize medical in all states), and make some changes in the public schooling system so we're more focusing on retaining information than just passing the next test.

Canadian Prime Ministers don't have as much power as the American president. Heck, our current PM is currently being ousted by other parties.

First thing I would do I guess is try to take care of the monopolies here. Especially in the telecom industry.

I would probably start funding alternative energy research on a grand scale and start reducing the U.S.'s carbon emissions. Saving our planet would be my biggest priority.

An IQ test to have a baby is a bit over the top. Booksmarts does not raise a baby.

I'd stop all the Aboriginal benefits and all the incentives they get for being black.

Agree completely. I'd also spend the money that goes into that on improving the military in Australia. From what I hear it's a bit of a joke here.

I would strip government funding from "private" schools in this country. If they don't want to comply with state standards, they don't get taxpayer money. I'd also look into abolishing the dole for people who do nothing to deserve it, like unemployed persons who refuse to seek work, or people who demand a taxpayer funded payment on the basis of race.

If I was the president of the US, I would raise taxes, increase government spending on infrastructure and essential services (health care, education, etc.) and have all dissenters shot.

I don't know much about doing things as a president but things I would want would be.

1. Make Weed legal (Who cares anymore)

2. Forced to watch 1 good foreign film

3. Sports should be a something outside of school.

If you do things right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

If I would be elected to Prime Minister of Norway with over 50% of the votes, I would do the following:

  •
[*:133y9wo7]Invest all our oil money (around 230 billion USD these days, but it is decreasing because of poor investments) in research on alternative renewable energy sources.

    [*:133y9wo7]Separate state and church.

[*:133y9wo7]Improve collective transportation and ban private cars.

    [*:133y9wo7]Nationalise all firms and companies.

[*:133y9wo7]Put more resources towards integration and therapy for immigrants coming from places with unstable situations.

[*:133y9wo7]Use more of the government budget on building and improving infrastructure in developing countries.

I'd make sure we never go anywhere near the "democracy" that is Capitalism.

I'd make education much higher than the standard it is.We learn science only 3 years after starting primary school ffs.

I'd allow any Singaporean male to complete university education before being enlisted.

Any former member of the NCC may skip BMT.Thats mainly for my benefit.

so i herd u liek devarts?

If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".

The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".

Secondary education must be completed, a 2 week stint in juvenile detention for those who skip more than 14 days of school per year without a reason. Sounds extremely over the top but there is to many people leaving school early who will only be a liability to the state and the taxpayer.

I would also denounce the state of being a 1 religion country (I.e Ireland being Catholic) and no longer associate any religion with state, let people choose what they want without feeling "different" or including contradictive material into the making of laws.

Outright banning of guns other than hunting rifles, invest money into the police force to create a department for dealing with illegal smuggling of guns, impose extremely harsh sentence for illegal gun ownership.

Make public transportation free for 5 mile less journeys, quite common in a lot of cities, would help cut down on Co2 emissions and would create more jobs for the unqualified.

  • [*:1x2jwkyd]Remove the de facto inclusion of religion in the UK legislature by abolishing the spiritual lords.

[*:1x2jwkyd]Provide a choice for 14 year olds to leave school and enter some sort of apprenticeship.

[*:1x2jwkyd]Introduce an enforced two months of manual labour for 14 year olds upwards, this being linked in with the national curriculum and aimed at instilling a solid work ethic in the child, while providing experience of employment.

[*:1x2jwkyd]Raise taxes on the rich and super-rich to reverse the trend of privatisation in the NHS.

[*:1x2jwkyd]Gradually withdraw all forces from Iraq, with immediate effect. We have no business there, and our troops would be better placed deposing Mugabe.

[*:1x2jwkyd]Fix the Barnett Formula, to an equation a little less helpful for the SNP to work with. ;)

[*:1x2jwkyd]Get rid of draws in football, and just make them play until a goal's scored after 90 mins. Watching Man Utd vs Sunderland last night was the most painful torture I have ever experienced in my life!

Awesome! I think I'd do that as well; make some people get their hands dirty.

When people say Nationalise all companies and business, it's evident they haven't learned ANYTHING from history.

With War Communism in effect during the Russian Civil war during the Communist revolution, you realise they nationalised this, and everything screwed up? It only really benefitted the rich. Which isn't really communism.

The point of the history is to correct the future, even if history iswritten by the victors.

Communism is fun and all but difficult to get it to work.

Agreed... Even 'dumb' people have a right to have a child, and IQ is significantly influenced by pure education.

Instead you could have a practical test with reasonable questions to answer:

1. Can you leave your baby home alone for hours while you go in the bar for drinks?

2. Can you feed solid foods to a baby?

3. Can you slap, hit, yell at your baby if it's misbehaving?

(Many more such questions, instant disqualification if they answer 'yes' or 'no' incorrectly more than one time)

It's entirely plausible, the chinese government may have trouble controlling the 1-child policy but even they're doing a pretty good job, limiting the amount/type of people having children is a realistic idea. People who will be potentially dangerous to the well-being of a child don't have the right to become a parent.

Institute socialism the exact same way Belgium/Sweden does.

Edit: Also, I would want illegal immigrants to not be able to recieve a driver's license or any government/taxpayer aid without first becoming a legal citizen.

Communism is fun and all but difficult to get it to work.

Historical precedent is a bad basis to make an argument. Why? Two reasons.

Firstly, because in WWII, everything was nationalised in Britain and the Allies won. Indeed, some might say the only reason Britain pulled through 6 years of war was due to nationalisation. Also, Renault is an example of a successful nationalisation in industry. Northern Rock was nationalised, and is now stable. Much as there are examples of nationalisation failing, there are examples of nationalisation being a success.

Secondly, History is not necessarily the pursuit of the truth of what happened - it's an interpretation. You said War Communism only benefited the rich. That's not fact, it's an opinion. I could argue the opposite, because it certainly didn't benefit the rich who opposed the Bolsheviks. There's also something to be said about the workers' conditions under Bolshevik control, compared to their conditions under Tsardom.

Analysing history is all good, and there are many lessons to be learned, but basing a whole argument on historical precedent is bad.

Completely stop the immigration in this country.

Which country and what is immigration causing?

Sweden. 99 485 immigrated last year.

It's so damn stupid. We are loosing jobs (and we'll see what happens with Volvo and Saab in the near future), companies moving to Poland or China while we keep accepting around 100k people each year.

Crime rates keeping going up.

And the even worse thing is, that the immigrations has failed (of course, politicians don't admit it). The immigrants usually get put into the Stockholm, Malmö or Gothenburg area, while almost none get sent more north. They get sent to these areas where it's not a good percentage of getting a job, while there are other places that would be able to give them jobs.

Just take Rosengård in Malmö as an example, ambulances and firefighters don't go there anymore if they don't get back-up by the police, because people living there disturbs the work and even throw stones.

So i think it should be stopped, because the unemployee-rate just keeps on rising (especially with the current financial state).

Gotta have more than one, sorry.

-Allow gay marriage

-Outlaw of all guns

-Seperate church and state

-Repealing of the Patriot Act

OP: What's with the idea of an IQ test before having a baby? That's laughable. First off, and IQ test has nothing to do with your intelligence level. It is merely a test to see how easily you can retain information.
