So supposedly Player Mods have to report federal crimes?

Well I'm not going to release names of the player and player mod I seen talk about this nor the clan chat it happened in. Though I was in my clans clan chat this morning and someone mentioned he uses his neighbor's wireless signal for internet or something along those lines. The player mod then said sorry but they have to report that to Jagex seeing as it's a federal crime, um wow.

So I guess if you're using someone's internet that isn't yours don't say it in-game.

If their neighbors don't have a wireless password, whose problem is it really?

But wow.. I guess it makes sense, since they are crimes, but still, isn't it hard to get people arrested in different countries like this? or am I wrong?

the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming.

i think it would be really hard to get that person charged for the crime, maybe the mod wanted to scare him. just think about it ur stealing someones wireless signal, so the ip is not urs. lets assuming u manage to contact the police, u got to prove it. Its probably not be worth the police's time for some petty theft, they got murder, rape and other things to deal with. Its one of those crimes where the perpetrator has low chances of getting caught much like illegally downloading music. And add to that chances are the guy is in another country, which means red tape.

They don't have any legal obligation to report it, (most PMods are not police in real life and if they were they would be off-duty if they were playing RS) I expect it was more of a scare tactic than anything. I bet that they just didn't want to give off the image that they support that kind of behaviour.

Yeah I didn't know they had to report stuff outside the game. Though I really doubt Jagex would care about something like that outside the game unless two people met up and one of them got murdered or something.

you think jagex will ban the Pker(murderer) then?

Well, I highly doubt that they would get in trouble IRL for doing it, but it could get them banned. The idea behind this is the fact that jagex tracks IP addresses when you log on, so it could technicly cause problems if the person who owned the wireless played RS as well. That is about the only reason I can think of.

I think thats absolutely ridiculous, i mean how can they be monitoring this, theres no way you can actually prove that you did what they said, i mean i could be like, yeah im usiong the laptop of the person i murdered.. Yeah ok  lol

tbh it's not a crime to use someone's wireless signal, it's the responsibility of the person who owns it to password protect it. I mean you can't help if you just happen to fall into range for the wireless signal can you? There's a good possibility the neighbors might know and not even care about it also.

Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-

Or if they met up to steal bandwidth :ohnoes:

No, I meant I didn't think Jagex would take action against comitting a crime such as using someone's wireless signal since it's somewhat small at least I think so. I meant I think they'd probably only get involved if two people met via RuneScape IRL and one of them got murdered.

I had a friend who rented a flat above an estate agent on the high street.

He couldn't understand why he was getting free internet until i checked his wireless settings and it said the name of the estate agent in the wireless signal name thing lol

No surprise that he quit runescape after he moved into a different house

Using someone else's internet isn't against the law.

It's only against the law if you're doing it with them directly saying "you can't use it".

Besides, it's kind of their fault for making it a "public" connection? If it's a "public" connection it's perfectly legal either way (even if they say you can't).

Yup, that's just stupid. Player mods enforce Jagex rules, because most of the other type of crimes don't apply to pixels. _._

it is illegal and u can get arrested if ur caught, which is really rare. theres has been cases where suspicious people are seen sitting in their cars using laptops, the police were called and found the person accessing someone else internet. But it is true its ur fault if u dont secure ur wireless internet who knows whats they use u internet and its ip for.

I highly doubt the mod was told to do this by Jagex. He/she was prolly just being a kiss-up. "Z0mgz, I might get a promotion!!1"

if you don't secure it,other people still don't have the right to use it.

Just to go down a different path to everyone else:

They probably have a legal obligation to tell the police to stop class actions against jagex. Probably for the same reason as to why they tightened up rules on using credit cards to pay for your membership.
