...edited, because that was a little rude: I do not think it is appropriate for anyone to expect the melee fighters to try to pay attention to your hidey-hole monsters so you can always reach one. If there isn't a 'safe-spot' available maybe you could think of a different way to fight it. I won't go out of my way to get the one your fighting but I'm not gonna save it for you either.

i rather liked this article. it's the first one i've read in a while, and even though i melee and thusly don't use safespots often, it made sense, safespots have been disappearing. i've heard other people talking about it. all in all i enjoyed it even though it didn't really pertain to me. thanks vhellcat.

I found this article very well written, and safe spots are definitely something that I use on a regular basis with my alternate character, who is mostly a ranger. I have fairly low defense and it is becoming more and more of a challenge as graphics are updated and certain landmarks that worked well for safe ranging and maging disappear.

I don't have a lot of problems with folks stealing my monsters when I use safe spots, but then I'm pretty vigilant with the "one" I always range or mage. I'm ready when it respawns and range will hit faster than a melee'er running to try for it anyway. Most folks are pretty respectful of my wishes when they realize that I'm killing the same creature over and over for slayer.

I have to say, I find it disappointing in this, and other articles to see people making negative comments about the article itself, rather than discussing the content. All authors who write for the times are taking time out of their own schedules to give you something to read and enjoy, and while nobody is going to like every single one, there is no need to bash an author.

so, you're right that was a good deal ruder than it needed to be.....sorry :|

I have made some edits, still don't agree, I'd be happy to see all safe-spots removed, but I tried to make it sound a little less condescending and rude.

All authors who write for the times are taking time out of their own schedules to give you something to read and enjoy, and while nobody is going to like every single one, there is no need to bash an author.

We could get into a long debate about why the authors are taking this risk and submitting their articles online or through a forum. It is our choice whether to negatively, or positively criticize the article, or who the author is based by what we read. Tip.It Times has set the bar very high for articles, and articles like these are probably only being released because Tip.It is scraping the bottom of the bucket. If Tip.It wanted to get rid of this 'risk' or the ability for us to 'bash' or 'negatively comment' about an article posted they could make a rule about it, but I'd think a lot of users would remove themselves from the forums, just like a few incidents in off-topic which has lead to several regulars leaving.

Regardless the article was very plain and the adjectives in the article were just put in there to make it sound better, which they didn't do anyways. But anyways safe spots are disappearing but as the author said new ones are popping up.

Infact if you actually know how monsters attack you, or come towards you based on where you're standing, and you have half an IQ you can actually find a safespot practically anywhere.

If people don't like it, they shouldn't post a positive review because then the author will keep spouting the same stuff that people hate. There is a difference between flaming and constructive criticism, but some people don't know where to stop.

Personally I thought the article was ok, but there have been more interesting subjects recently.

OK so one person bashes the author, and everyone feels the need to jump on the bandwagon and do likewise? Did you even READ the article? I have read every single one, published dozens of them when I was Crew Leader, and trust me, this one was definitely better than others that have been published in recent times. Economy, shmonomy. Now there's a topic that's been covered to DEATH. OK, so maybe the subjectmatter of this particular article wasn't exactly to your taste, and maybe you disagree with the author's opinion, but that does NOT mean that the article wasn't well written. It's fairly interesting, has broad appeal, the style is good, the ideas flow from one sentence and paragraph to the next, it's not full of spelling errors, etc. Sometimes I get the feeling that some guest articles aren't very thoroughly reviewed for grammar and spelling before they're published. Not this time - either a thorough review was done, or the article simply didn't need it.

So get off your high horses and pick your battles. This isn't the article that needs attacking. There are others that will fit that bill much more nicely.

this article confused me a little. he was mentioning the lack of safespots at the taverly black demons because of changes to the staglamites(sp) lol, but i havnt had any problems at all, if you know where to stand it is quite easy to stay protected and prevent them from backing off...

Whenever a safe-spot gets removed, people complain that they liked using it. But other people complain that they don't like seeing safe-spotters getting "easy" kills without taking any damage. The same applies to tactics like surrounding the Saradomin boss in the GWD with rangers so that she'd wander round and round without hitting anyone (until Aug 5th when she got updated, amidst many complaints from people who could no longer handle her).

It's blatantly a flaw in the game if a monster can't route-find properly or doesn't know how to handle multiple attackers in a multiway area. RuneScape's always had pretty limited route-finding on its monsters, so they get stuck on corners and other obstacles. That's not to say that safe-spotting = bug abuse. It's a fair way to train. But safe-spotting is ultimately one of the game's dumber features - a big demon should be able to walk round a little rock! - so it's understandable that Jagex doesn't bother preserving safe spots when it doesn't suit them to do so.

Ohh.. I don't suppose you would do a screenie of that? I have avoided taverly dungeon like the plague on my alternate, because I could not find a safe spot after the changes. Granted, I was a little freaked out at like level 79 with around 50 defense, so I ended up fleeing .. in the wrong direction into the spiders but yeah.. If you have a screenie, I'd love to see it.

I think something about granite might be interesting. Theres also that other release.. clan wars or something? I forget.. =p

I too am a bit disappointed by the plethora of negative replies. I primarily melee, but I do safespot range, to me it makes logical sense for someone using a projectile weapon to *hide*, after all, snipers hide. As a times writer, I can promise you I have put out much worse than this article, so I am surprised by the quick bandwagon of naysayers. Infact ironically I almost wrote this article myself a few weeks ago, its a relevant and good issue.

As for the Black Demons, I tested it out on low hd, there was a spot I could stand in, but it was far from safe infact I got attack from behind, so the black demon safespot is not "Safe" lest it wasnt for me.

To me the point people seem to miss is respect, back in classic you had respect for people training in spot x,y,z whether it be melee or range. if someone was there, you switched. RS2 is a self centered type society where people jack whoevers spots. Respect should be given, these days, it's seldom seen.

I for one enjoyed the article, it was a relevant useful piece that I thought could lead to quality discussion in many different ways.

Not to be mean here, but isn't it part of author's job to take critism? Personally, I found the article to be quite unexciting, but that only means the author should consider a more interesting subject next time. If the author is taking this critism personally, well, I don't think he/she deserves to be a Tip.it times author.

And I don't think most people have anything against Tip.it times. Most of the articles you see delivered are well thought-out interesting peices. Every once and a while you will have an article that is not so good.

Did you ever consider that the reason people "jump on the band-wagon" is because it genuinely isn't that good? That is like saying that if one person says they don't like a song, anyone else who agrees with them is jumping on the band wagon simply because they hold the same opinon. I'm sure most of the people who gave negative feedback are perfectly capable of reading a text that seems to be as patronising as it is bland, you don't have to have a degree in English to have an opinion on something you are able to read. There have been 23 replies in this thread, three of which concerned safespots and the rest on the writing style. I agree that personal attacks are unneccessary, however.

Which is sad, this is a discussion thread about content...Not the authors writing style.
