Is Jagex slowly killing this game?
Cute, someone suffering from tunnel vision and a disability to adapt to change, calling others narrow minded. You post your negative opinions of a game on a fan-site dedicated to that particular game and you expected milk and cookies? Your opinions basically all boil down to ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâthese updates suck because̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ..̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢, which Tip-It has a sticky for, for obvious reasons. Ah yes, construction, slayer, hunter, godwars, heaps of quests, new weapons/armors, new minigames and a completely new skill next January̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ..yes, just flashy distractions. Smithing saw an update, with varrock armor, bolt smithing, crossbows. Runecrafting saw a lot of updates. Magic with two completely new spell books. New prayers were added. Ranging was updated. Cooking skill got new items added constantly. Combat overall got updated with higher npc̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s to kill: fight caves, mith dragons, chaos elemental, godwars, all with nice rewards. The list goes on: exactly what was your point again? You don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t *have* to powerlevel to a 99 you know. You can take your time and actually make pile loads of money getting there. But I guess that̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s not a good enough reward for you? Not sure what you mean in this paragraph, because the lvl 99 player does get the better drops, better rewards, hits hardest, cuts fastest and has the potential to make the most money. The dedicated players have the ability to work the G.E with all the cash they accumulated in their years of playing. If it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s about the assist system, then I guess you simply don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t understand how it works. Before this was introduced, the high level players would swap items for materials. So your point about mid level players getting a free ride is already mute. The experience-points in the assist system *still* go to the ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâassist-giver̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢, NOT to the one asking for assistance. Nothing changed in that aspect, only there̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s no need for item transfer anymore. People still have to obtain items first, still have to look for the player who has the skill level and then *still* have to look for the player who actually is willing to give the assistance. Wait a second̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâæÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ. Merchanting in ruins (according to you), now there is cut-throat competition over prices in the G.E, Dueling killed as an easy money-maker, yet you feel it ruined the game for dedicated players. If anything, it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s exactly what motivated players are after: a harder game where skilling is rewarded (I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m looooooving it). Now the only way to make heaps of money quickly, is raising a skill like runecrafting to 91 (dedication), or getting the big drops from high level monsters (dedication). So, what̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s it going to be? Accepting that those updates were great in appeasing the dedicated/motivated high level player, or keeping your tunnel vision that Jagex is only after the money of short-attention-spanned-players. By the way, the duel arena update is rumored to have cost Jagex 3% of its subscribers (search on these forums), exactly how does that fit in with a money-hungry corporation? What is bad about some bankers announcing a drop party in the party room? Only thing I can think of is, that it interferes with parties you want to keep intimate. Exactly how many of those parties did you give in your years of playing? If you want to give private parties now, you can go to your POH. Something a long-playing dedicated and motivated player will surely have. Unless you have level 99 in all skills, it really shouldn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t matter what they do to attract new players: those skills were there back in 2004 already. If you liked to level them back then, they should still appeal to you now (unless you changed of course). You can even still level them as you did back then: you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t *have* to use the updates you claim are aimed at new players. As for not adding high-level updates, see above. Maybe you should look at yourself and realize that what appealed to you a few years ago, doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t appeal anymore. You don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t play with Lego anymore either, right? It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s easier to blame the big bad corporation Jagex, than actually looking inward. It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s human nature. Just some opinions, feel free to bash em. Dutch, one of those dedicated, motivated high level players.

How many times are we going to this rant of you, in one shape or another? http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=712545&highlight= (the one you wrote about half a year ago is gone from archives)

Grand Exchange Your Pros and Cons
Pro - A lot of reasons: I think overall the GE is a great new aspect of the game. Just have to wait a while before the initial end-of-the-year bank cleaning is settled. Cons: One I can think of is that I don't seem to be able to sell black and white mystic armor as sets (checked and double checked to see if I had all the parts). A thing to consider: 2 million accounts (just a guess) actively using the exchange. Consider how much data traffic this takes to keep track of all the purchase/selling orders that people put in. Now check how smooth the game still runs. I think Jagex did a good job on it.
-
Random events- Random prizes
Why stop there? Let Jagex refund you in cash for the time you spend playing their game. Of course to make it fair, an hourly wage will be introduced according to experience, age and marital status.

Curing the Disease by Killing the Patient
A bit over the top on the war on terror analogy in my opinion. One angle I didn't see in the article (had to skim through it, not enough time, ignore this post if it was mentioned): Jagex announcing in the behind the scenes of November that an incredibly awesome update is to happen in the new year. Why did they announce it particularly in November? To soften the blow for the impopular decision to kill dueling? Something for people to look forward to and keep their membership until that update, despite November's updates. To protect their cashflow for the coming months? Just as American generals keep claiming small successes to ensure a steady flow of resources for their conintued effort. P.S: Don't take this post too seriously, just providing the conspiracy theorists among us with some ammo :P

Will there be any impact of duel arena update on rares?
They have no use in terms of the game itself. They only have value because of artificial induced rarity. It's a MMO game: there are game-social/community aspects as well. Whether you personally like the 'showing off' / 'attention seeking' aspect or not. They *are* terms of the game as much as skills. No other item has a greater use to some people in that aspect of the game than those p-hats. Nonsense. There are thousands of people who have rares due to getting gifts from friends, drop-trading, scamming, hacking and real-world trading. *Complete* nonsense: the quotes were specifically aimed at p-hats. You now widen it to 'rares' in general. To expand on what you said: you are claiming the new kid on the block, fresh from tutorial island knows how to scam, hack, drop trade (by the way, the main account would still have had to have the p-hat in the first place), knows where to buy his geepees and has friends who would trust him with such an item. The person doing this, will still have to spend *considerable* amount of time to learn the game first. People involved in this kind of activities (except arguably buying gp online). The game character may be fresh, that doesn't include the person behind the keyboard is as fresh. I think you will associate long-levity with the character age, while I associate it with the time a person played (no matter how many characters he played). The fact that they are tradeable is exactly why they say nothing about the longevity of their owners. I don't know what your point is here. I said the only thing they don't represent is that the wearer started when they were dropped, per se (because they are tradable). I will still uphold that owning one represents a playing time of more than the average. And that was the point I was making. You can start a new character *NOW* with all your knowledge of the game you accumulated in years, to obtain one quickly (I doubt it would take a month, but if you say so ;)). The character may be fresh, that doesn't automatically mean the person behind it hasn't been involved with the game for considerable amount of time. My point was simply that most players, consciously or unconsciously, think they look "cool" not because they really are, but simply because they are valuable. You were groupthinking yes. I tell you my reason for buying to show there can be different motives involved. That's the reason why most people wear Burger King hats around. You are groupthinking again, yes. Other people that don't own the BK hats say others are showing off. You pick up on it and that's why you assume it's the reason. Those are the reasons in most cases. Doesn't mean it applies to everyone, and in fact, I legitimately feel sorry for the real veterans. If Jagex had done the smart thing and made these items untradeable years ago when they launched RS2, they would be legitimate symbols of status and not a corrupted symbol that can represent status, greed or cheating. First part is an assumption induced by groupthinking of those who don't own rares. Agreed on the last part, then again, I wouldn't have had mine ;)

Will there be any impact of duel arena update on rares?
Being a "symbol of wealth" doesn't change the fact that Burger King hats are useless -- i.e., have no use. And they don't. They can be used as a symbol of wealth, yet in the same sentence you claim they they have no use? Great logic. Yes they are signs of long term play: at the current prices, you will have to have spent considerable time playing RS to come up with the cash, one way or the other. The fact they are tradable just means they don't show the wearer started in RSC per se. They still represent long term play simply because of the time it takes to obtain one. Ah, but see, here's the rub. This "storing GP" thing is at the heart of the matter. If you buy something useless that's worth millions because you want to use it as an "investment" then you should be prepared that sometimes investments lose value. Thought you said phats are without a use, yet you are here saying they can be used as an investment? Anyways, no clue what your point would be here, since the topic creator wondered what the effect would be on rares: he's not whining about how (his) rares are dropping, nor is Artemis refering to people not being prepared to take that chance. They "look awesome"? They are silly little paper hats, like the ones you get from Burger King. They are only "adored" by people because of the cult following that has built up over their rarity. If they weren't discontinued, people would laugh at anyone who wore one. It boils down to a matter of taste: you don't like how they look? Fine with me, however I bought my white phat in 2005 specifically because I liked how it looked with sara-armor. Yes, because of a combination of brainwashing, a need to show off, and a desire to "keep up with the Joneses". It's all groupthink phenomena. Exactly why I bought my phat: to stand out of the crowd at the time. Every player was walking around in rune armor, simply because at the time there werent that many goodies yet to customise your character. Is that groupthink phenomena ? Yes, but different from the one you imply. I bought it so my character's looks would stand out from the crowd. A need to show off ? Nope, if that would have been my thing, I would've saved up to buy a D-chain. Those at the time were more than double the price of a white p-hat. Showing off in an online game ? Don't make me laugh. Desire to keep up with the Joneses? I'm not familiar with the expression, but another reason I bought it was because I wanted to reward myself with a nice looking item after obtaining 99 cooking. I had money collecting dust in my bank, so why not spend it on an item I think looks great ? Attention seeking ? Heck no, with all the hype that surrounds p-hats I have hardly worn it the last year. I can *seriously* live without all the undesired attention I get because of it. If it were up to me, I would love Jagex to make them untradable, if that would make the groupies quiet. I don't sell it because of the sentimental value. I have some great memories related to it. May I give you an advice you so generously give to others? Stop with the knee-jerk responses. You showed in every response to Artemis that you yourself are victim of 'groupthinking', namely that a P-hat owner only has one so he can show off, is an attention seeker and that p-hats have no use.

20 November 2007 - Duel Arena Tournaments and Changes
They loop player value on items for the duel arena. That makes me wonder how long it will take for Jagex to implement the same in death piles (a.k.a. wilderness). Imagine the effect that would have on the three items saved upon death.

Grand Exchange: Your thoughts?
For those that don't understand: What ixfd64 means is, that he thinks you can't put in buying orders that will remain active. In other words, he assumes that the only way to buy from the auction house will be done by buying things that are actually up for sale. Example, he expects it will not be possible to put in an order like: - 'Dutchdreams buying 1 million sharks at 1 gp each' - 'Dutchdreams buying 40000 phats at 1 gp each' - 'Dutchdreams buying 20 green masks at 20 mill each'. (compare to auction houses irl, where you can only bid on items that are actually up for sale...... you can't bid on future items)

Answering questions and igoring
They actually have to log out and go to the main page or open up a WHOLE new Internet Explorer! I've had this done to me plenty of times. It pretty much gets down to them wanting you to take them every little step. My ignore list is pretty full from these kind of people.. Generally speaking, the ones who know about the existance of the knowledge base are the ones who don't need it. I've had several people ask me what the f the knowledge base is after I refered them to it. Now, I just tell them to type in a query on the right top corner of their screen and press search. Of course followed a few times by: 'I typed in query, but nothing came up'. ARGH!

lock please
I can foresee a whole new type of rant on the RSOF: the 'typo-rant'. 'OMG Jadex, I made typo in price and n0w my 50k sharks sold for 100 each instead of 1k. You blow! I want my sharkz back else IM stopping my 40 memberz accountzzzzzz.' Anyways, I wonder how it's going to work. Unlike when dealing person to person, a typo in an auction house can have some pretty bad consequences. Or lots of opportunities for merchants, depending on how you look at it. When dealing with one person, there's some margin for error (second trade screen, can try ask for your money back). With an auction house, you are dealing with thousands of players: if you put up a wrong order it may be filled before you can blink your eyes. (Yes, they will probably put up a confirmation screen first before your trade hits the market) Depending on how many orders you can put up, everyone could do something like this, taking advantage of others mistakes (doom scenario): 'Dutchdreams buying 10k sharks at 1 each' 'Dutchdreams buying 10k sharks at 2 each' 'Dutchdreams buying 10k sharks at 3 each' ....... 'Dutchdreams buying 10k sharks at 500 each'

Pet Peeves
Why does it affect you? It's flipping annoying! Especially if it's a 'couple'(BF and GF or something like that). Guy:Hey honey, do you like that new Santa I just bought you?(Spins) Girl:Yeah, it makes me soo hawt and steamy!(Spins) Guy: Oooh yeah, you wanna do somethin about that, baby?(Spins) Girl:Yah, give it to me!(spins) Guy:Does my spinning turn you on?(Spins) Girl:Oh yah.. Your soo hawtzorz! OMFG people, this is not an online dating site! Get a flipping room! If its a BF/GF thing, then it's different. If they are a high level and doing it, they are most likely Boyfriend and Girlfriend in real life. [/hide] ..and that gives them the right to annoy the hell out of me with their love talk and their spinning?! How dare people have fun as they see fit on a game! Let's all follow in line and hail the great King/Queen of Runescape: Unoalexi! Go play solitaire.

Family Communication - Am I the Only One?
I think a lot of people will be able to relate to this. I think it's part of growing up, taking responsibilities and trying to find your own way without falling back on your parents every time you make a decision. It's a way of maturing, being/trying to be independant and preparing for that day you move out of the house. It's a transition phase, that needs adjusting from both sides. Don't forget though: they really are good for advice. Chances are, the same obstacles you will be presented later on in life, they have been faced with themselves (relationships/money/education/work/KIDS!....etc). Parents need to learn not to give unwanted advice and realise their kid will ask for it when needed. I hope that made some sense, it's kind of early here ;)
