A Level Results
This is very cruel. You know I got 4 Fs and an Q. Anyway, the B is General studies; I'm quite disapointed that I didn't fail that outright.

Those stupid things you do when you're tired thread
I wear contact lenses. At night, when I go to take them out before going to bed, I walk to the doorway, turn the light off, walk to the sink and mirror, realise that I need the light on, and have to go back and forth. I do this most nights; I should go to bed earlier.

Your School Schedule!
...I think that might be Live at Pompeii, actually. "Could I have eggs, sausage, chips and beans, and a tea?". I haven't a clue what I'll be doing this year  . I suppose someone will tell me?

Do you believe in magic?
I let myself believe all kinds of crazy things, as long as it doesn't impare my judgement in (even slightly) important matters. I like to use my imagination, and I'm not particularly bothered by letting it run wild every now and then. I suppose the short answer, then is "no" -- in that I don't believe in any one thing more than any other thing, without any evidence either way; I'm just imagining things to be one way over another until I see some reason to think otherwise. ...about things not being able to be explained: yes and no. I do believe that there are things that I can't explain, and things that no one can explain, which are, in effect, inexplicable. ...by you and I*: I do believe they happen for a reason -- and by reason I just mean "this happened which caused that to happen"; I don't mean it to connote any sort of intent on someone's part there. *no slight on your own explanatory skillz intended.

Getting Into College
I really don't think they're that important. If you're fairly borderline, then they might swing it your way, over the rest of the borderline people who don't do whatever activities you do. If you've got a pretty good *record, though, they're probably not particularly interested, because it's that that they're looking for, really. The way it worked with us was this: we get to write a personal statement, telling whoever is considering us a bit about ourselves. One only needs to glance at a few examples of people's personal statements to see that it's not so much what's written in the document itself as how well it's written. That gives an idea of how well the person doing the writing can think and write, whereas the activities mentioned within show what the person would like the reader to know about themself. *academic, as opposed to criminal

Moon landing Real/Fake?
I'd just like to point out that, as a long-standing agent of MI-Eleventy, I've worked with Sennin_Koth on numerous occasions. He's telling the truth.

Does doing pushups increase the weight you can bench press?
This is why it's the guys who do sports at school are in all the top jobs, don'tchaknow? (I'm not saying it might not be true, of course).

Infamous Worm Game
Yes. Well, this time the dot leaves a trail.

Infamous Worm Game
Maybe I could get higher than that, maybe not. I found it quite hard... and I'm not really going to try and get better at it.

Why don't people spend more on jewelry?
A load of my (girl) friends often comment on how cheap their nice clothes were -- which I think I find more reasonable than talking about how expensive they were.

Best Day of Summer Vacation '06
I have a bad memory for this sort of thing, so I'm not sure whether I'm missing out anything particularly important... but I have two events to mention. One, a week or so ago, a load of us went to Coniston and sailed about a bit, swam, had a (sort of) barbeque, and went back in the dark half expecting the car to be locked into a carpark we'd not realised might close. That was great fun... but I've described this before. The other, yesterday, I went to a concert in a big garden where a few (quite good) bands played, and we sat about a bit with lots of friends who I'd not seen since college broke up. Then I went back to someone's house with them in order to use their woodturning lathe -- we're making some juggling clubs.

Alright guys, have you ever shaved?
I don't know if this is what you meant, but I also find it sort of annoying when beard stubble touches my chest or shoulders.

Outrageous things you thought as a kid
A long time ago* I used to think that 10pm was midnight, for some reason. On the subject of the miracle of birth (and the no-doubt outrageous sin of conception), I've always known how that happened: I was well informed by all manner of books. ... Of course, I hadn't realised there was quite as much moving about involved. *really I still think this now.

Best Cover Versions
I like Dream Theater's covers of The Rover / Achilles Last Stand and Perfect Strangers (Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple respectively). I also that Iron Maiden did a decent job covering Doctor Doctor by UFO.

Does doing pushups increase the weight you can bench press?
Who needs speed when you've got invisibility. About the pushups: do them regardless. You might as well, even if it doesn't help with that (which I gather it does).

Ever had a real adventure?
Depends what sort of thing you regard as an adventure. The only thing that sort of qualifies that's happened to me recently was going sailing with a few friends on a boat belonging to one of them on the lake (Coniston, for those in the UK). It got a bit dark, we had a swim, and a fire, cooked some food until it was... well, soot, and then made our way back across in the dark. At one point someone pulled out a bung in the bottom of the boat, and water started gushing in. We had a go at putting it back in, but a chip in the side of the hole stopped it from being completely sealed. In the end we fixed it with chewing gum. That's not particularly adventurous sounding, perhaps... but I suppose it depends who's sailing the boat.

What's under your bed?
A desk, a bookshelf, a crate with papers in... that's about it. Me, when I need to walk out of the room.
