20 November 2007 - Duel Arena Tournaments and Changes
berbatovsky replied to Aneron's topic in General Discussion
Uniquely, stakers can RWT by purposefully losing stakes to players they pre-arranged to lose to in exchange for real money. Staker A promises to 'give' Player C 10mil GP in 'exchange' for $20, they both go to the duel arena and Staker A stakes 10mil GP and Player C 9if they have a brain) stake a similar ammount, Staker A turns off auto-retaliate and loses, the exchange is complete. Jagex CANNOT track this. Of course they can. All they have to do is record the outcomes of duels over X amount, and have a report be generated when the same thing happens too many times from one player in a suspicious manner. So if a player stakes often and loses what happens? You assume they cheat or assume they suck? FLAWED. -

And maybe I'm really Zorzorxx from the planet Fleeblesnort. ;) This update is ridiculous. It reflects a near total lack of understanding of the issues surrounding RWT and the duel arena. Hundreds of people have already made far better suggestions. Not on this thread they haven't. I refuse to surf the RSOF rants section to find them, mayhaps you could quote me one (not white market). -

But you're assuming there are only two possibilities: Jagex lying Jagex being stupid Maybe Jagex are being clever and its just not clear at the moment. Maybe they have information we don't have. Maybe stakers are responsible for a significant portion of real world trading (would not surprise me in the slightest) and maybe theres no other feasible solution. Or maybe not, but we don't know what they know. Also I'm still sure they'll change the 3k thing to 100k or thereabouts. Edit:I spell good. -

THIS is a problem worthy of ranting about, Jagex plans these updates for how long? And yet we get a poorly implemented system riddled with bugs. I don't see why/how they can't/don't get the entire staff(or 200 staff/players) to try these new features for a day because that would show up most of these bugs early doors. -

Alright, go ahead and tell me how YOU make your money. Then, when your money maker is gone, we'll see how you like it. Sigh, fine I shall oblige, I make my money from: Slayer, Farming, Runecrafting, Barrows, God Wars dungeon, Thieving(in a very limited way), Treasure Trails, Quests (again limited) and non-slayer combat. If Jagex 'nerfs' these then feel free to gloat at my misery. I have very little money (geeeeeeepeeeees) but a decent bank, I'm quite a rounded player (I liek to do a little of everything) but have been leaning much more towards slayer in the last few months(incidentally I haven't played much in said last few months). -

In amongst all the arguing I think most people have forgotten that this new type of dueling(exists and) means people can STILL make large sums of geeeeeeepeeeeeeeees but just with more effort and some skill required, the more I think about it the more it seems to me that Jagex imposed the 3k limit on the 'old' dueling in an attempt to 'push' people into trying(and sticking to) the new dueling. A problem seems to be that MANY people are facing bugs in this new format and this to me is far more detrimental to Jagex than any limits the impose, because it shows their testing regiment is nowhere near good enough. -

When they make a big change people are going to complain anyway. But lying about the motivation for the change doesn't help matters. They are far better off saying "we don't want to duel arena to be used as a big money-maker because it's not what we meant it to be for" than to make up bogus nonsense about how they are imposing a 12k/hr cap to stop RL trading. It's an assault on the intelligence of any player with the ability to think. True. And if they don't want to say why they did it, that's their prerogative. Here, though, they provided an explanation that is not honest. And I object to that. Limiting staking to something like 500k to 1m an hour would have stopped the cheats. Dropping it down to a figure that they KNOW is a trivial amount of gold was done for one reason and one reason only -- to take staking (i.e. non-fun dueling) out of the game. I am not a big staker -- far from it! But even I, on occasion, would stake 5k or 10k. Do they really expect anyone who's been in the game for more than a week to sit around figuring out if they can now stake 800 gold or if they can go all the way to 1,300? It's ridiculous. They cannot possibly be so stupid as to not realize the consequences of this move. It was deliberate. 2pac once said : its me against the world, and i feel like that here, it seems I'm the only one not outraged by this. I think it was a combination of things 1) Jagex didn't want people to be able to make the money they can in the duel arena. 2)Jagex is aware that a lot of the big time duelers were selling their accounts for $100's and this doesn't sit well with Jagex for obvious reasons. 3)Jagex does not like the 'noob culture which is dominant in duel arenas. 4)They wanted a new multi-person duel arrangement where winning was harder and thus less money can be gained/laundered through the arena by ONE PERSON. You can add several more items to that list, but to say Jagex did this purely to stop people making huge amounts is a disservice to them, sure it was a motivating factor maybe the MAIN motivating factor but it wasn't the only consideration. As i edited in in a post about 30mins ago I think they should and WILL raise the limit to 100k per 15 and everything will calm down a BIT. -

No. Are you referring this to every high-level staker? Even if you're not, I don't think Jagex has made a smart move to get rid of what people find fun in the whole game. Some people enjoy staking more then they enjoy killing monsters or runecrafting. @ Drum: Nah bro, that's after yesterdays crash, and I'm referring to everyone to stop playing. But you should stop only after 99 Slayer. Do they enjoy staking as in 1)they want money? 2)they like fighting people? If its the first then I repeat: BOOHOO If its the second then they can keep doing it. People aren't angry that the challenge or whatevers gone, they are angry because their money maker has gone, this deserves very limited sympathy. dude i think you dont even understand the duel arena... Many players worked for days/weeks/months to make a good dueler, because they can make money with it... And now all their work was for nothing. Also you say all good stakers are real world traders, scammers and such, which is like saying my cat is the emperor of China... No you don't understand my brain is all, I KNOW people specifically make ''stakers' with stats that make them better at dueling. The problem with staking is 50% stakers are people trying to grab money who don't really understand the combat system and 50% are stakers who do understand the system and who can almost guarantee winning (overall) by just doubling up every time they lose, due to the random-[wagon] combat system there is no such thing as a guaranteed win and thusly the only people who really prosper are those who have huge sums to begin with and gamble/pick and choose their fights. I have no real problem with any of this, i consider it as cheap if not cheaper than PC products but I'm not the type to hold a grudge randomly, the problem for me is that too many people use the duel arena to amass huge sums of wealth and then sell the accounts on EBAY or w/e, these people are tearing the game down and making the arena a joke, Jagex is fixing an issue with balance/cheating (considering there is NO OTHER WAY IN THE GAME OF MAKING AS MUCH MONEY CONSISTENTLY I'd say its unbalanced). -

I'm unhappy because I don't like being deceived. Jagex is not being honest about their real motivations or goals for this update. And that's not treating customers with respect. Your a sensible chap with a large brain so I don't understand this. You know the reaction your average scaper has to change. ANGER, they don't like change and they don't like pesky adults pointing out to them that a part of the game is broken and needs fixing, especially if they (the young ones) are making money from said aspect. Jagex is nowhere near deceiving you, they changed how a part of the game worked, they don't always (read:rarely) tell us the reason for changes (generally only small changes are explained). They have NO OBLIGATION to tell you why they are doing things or not. I'm sure because of all the fuss being made they will make changes and will possibly tell us 'yes we changed it because (between some of and most of)the top duelers were huge scamming cheats who were breaking nearly every rule and as the major rule they were breaking was real world trade it was VERY hard to track and punish them'. Anyway your assuming that Jagex went more than skin deep on this, maybe just maybe (unlikely) Jagex made a ham fisted change without considering it. I'm just assuming this has something to do with stopping the cheats. -

Its blatantly a balance issue, Jagex never wanted people to be able to win or lose 500mil in 1 minute due to luck. Jagex seem to be hitting out at everything they don't like in THEIR game, this seems to include stakers. Jagex obviously wanted the duel arena to be a fun way to duel friends, people being people turned it into a gladiatorial money making extravaganza. Also the 'top' duelers kind of brought this on themselves by CONSTANTLY real world trading, drop trading and bug abusing. BOO HOO. What a shame. Now your complaint is: I only duel for money, now I can't make (ridiculous) amounts of money by hedging my bets in the next duel. RIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHT. Anyway you have the lovely 'top' duelers to blame for the aforementioned CONSTANT CHEATING, which was ruining the game and the arena. Edit: I feel Jagex should and probably will adjust the amount able to be staked to around 100k per 15mins, this is still low enough to prevent the hundreds of millions of geeepeees being laundered/scammed by the cretins who are pulling the rug from under the game. -
How a parent/the MEDIA sees it:If that child wasn't playing the game they would be curing cancer, CANCER.....what a waste!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reality:the child most likely doesn't cure cancer and most likely lives an obscure life with or without Runescape.

I've got to ask, why isn't this thread locked? this guy is blatantly trolling at this point calling everyone who disagrees with him a hypocrite or stupid. I'm not going to report it because the mods know its here, I'm not going to get involved with arguing with anyone but this thread is now a flame-bait.

Heres my thesis: The opening: pretty much everyone tries out the new exchange, many bugs are found, many people try to exploit said bugs, jagex fixes it. The next week: People find it an effective and easy way to sell things, the RSOF merchanting forums are much emptier than usual, prices are all over the place. Near future: Prices become more rigid as people have many options(since there is an easy and convenient way to see ALL the things people are selling) , sellers can no longer buy yew logs at 280 and sell en masse at 330(at least they can't do this using the exchange reliably, but they can still use the now nearly defunct forums and banks/w2) Future:Merchants still exist but they are subsiding on smaller margins, price ranges are a thing of the past: prayer pots cost 9k and thats it. (in the exchange)Few people TRY to sell at higher than the recognised price. As for the monopoly, what is stopping people doing this now?In fact rare merchants DO conduct price manipulation by artificially creating demand. I'm not going to say 'this is just my opinion lol' because that is obvious considering I wrote this post(hint you don't have to justify what you post as being just your opinion because we already know that).

I use maaaaaaaaaaany different virus scanners and anti-adware software so i pretty much delete all tracking cookies every couple of days. I'd imagine I'm nowhere near in the minority there so these statistics still don't mean anything(I'm aware what tracking cookies are and what they do, BUT why are random companies able/allowed to compile and distribute this information?!?!?!). Its funny(in a horrific way) how the corporate machine is sooooooooooooo desperate to analyse our internet habits in a vain attempt to make us buy stuff. Freedom, yeh the freedom to be bombarded with adware and malware, thanks corporate buddies. \ -
When randomers ask you to team it IS Luring, I've always said no to teaming with people I don't know because....well its obvious whats going to happen(except on one occasion where we were already in multi and this high level asked to team but didn't tell us to go anywhere).

The only way to discern this information would be to read your e-mails, which is illegal, so yeh. Unless everyone but me has a folder with all their personal information in it that is sent to these people every time an internet connection is detected. Or its magic. -
What do you think of this review on IGN?
berbatovsky replied to SportsGuy's topic in General Discussion
LOL YOU DISAGREE WITH ME FANBOOOOOOI. Noone with a brain would mark any game ever 10/10, because we all know perfection is impossible. As for intuitive combat system, you seriously think having more buttons = intuitive? I suggest you look up what intuitive means. Also as you said or alluded to at least games are subjective things, I know people who HATE Halo but love Gears of War, noone can say hey this feature is the best and your an idiot for not seeing it as such (which is basically what your doing). Also don't make sweeping statements like: all of you have no perspective ......morons (which again is what your saying) its: 1) rude, 2) stupid, 3) almost certainly incorrect. I've played a few MMORPG's (as in 4) and I'd wager most people on these boards have played at least 2. I will add my usual disclaimer here to make your first response redundant: I have no problem if you dislike the game, I could care less. I do have a problem with you saying stupid things. -
This sort of thing is EXACTLY why Jagex doesn't 'listen' to its user base, because its user base has absolutely no idea what its talking about. OMG theres no point leveling skills cause all lvl 3's will just get assistance - from who? I can just see it now, all the high levels standing around waiting for some low level to require their assistance, because we all know how patient and generous high levels are with their time..........(I'm not saying they should be of course they shouldn't and aren't). People really need to realise just because something could happen (all high levels devoting their time to helping low levels) doesn't mean it will. There is no valid reason to moan about this ANTI-SCAMMING update.

important news regarding my RuneScape character
berbatovsky replied to ixfd64's topic in General Discussion
Whoa, I just saw a pig fly past my window! Did anyone else see that? Well, RSOF forum mods do tend to kiss up to Jagex, but that's not really the point. The thing is how do Jagex know you're not lying? Short of you getting this person 'who cracked a lvl 91 account and played on your IP/computer' to sign an affidavit confirming your story there is no proof, and just because you think you have 'proved' your not the 'sort' to cheat doesn't really mean anything, I'm sure a number of player mods HAVE cheated and got caught and banned for it in the past and will do in the future despite appearing to be paragons of virtue. I do agree that the customer service isn't great but thats the nature of the beast (millions playing, 99% childish and not giving a second thought to lying). Having said all that, if your story is genuine I feel extremely sorry for you. Edit: the reason the customer service is poor(awful) is because there are far too many bans/appeals to realistically have a real reply from a real person, who investigates the matter. I'd imagine you'd need a dedicated department of at least 1000 people to do this. -
For me its got to be either an overhaul of an existing system (xp gains/bank format/a skill(including combat) or a new skill.
-
when you can earn 1 burger king hat then you have a right to comment on them, but down talking something you will never have in a million years, despite wanting it or not is rather childish. You are taking this whole thing too personally, any player could dedicate themselves to getting a phat by merchanting/skilling/pking/dueling in a year or two, faster depending on the method/time dedicated/internet connection(a slick internet connection that very rarely crashes is a massive advantage for EVERYTHING in Runescape). Edit: Actually thats false, because their are only a finite amount of Phats left, but any player could make the money required to buy a phat(at current prices) in a year or so if that was their only goal and they were dedicated, its not like your doing anything incredibly difficult, just something thats not desirable (the reason bin collectors are payed ~ 50k a year in my country, its not because its hard its because few people are willing to do it, same goes for tube/train drivers).

YUP  Ego Scorpion: your name is apt, there was absolutely no call to BRAG about your legions of followers and masses of wealth.Edit: thats a bit savage but really having 10billion 'net' worth and loads of 'fans' doesn't make your merchanting 'respectable', for all we know your a scammer. I have no problem with people merchanting I don't do it myself because i find it tedious and i genuinely don't think Jagex wanted or realised that people would be able to merchant the way they do now and this update seems to collaborate this. People will still be able to merchant stuff just in a more organised and less arbitrary fashion (see phat sellers and their 'tactics'). Edit2: I'll be very interested to see what format they use for this, will we for example be able to see all rune items for sale on one page and their prices, or all items segregated by price or something different?
-
Oh forgive me, I didnt know jagex shares with you their plans for the game and in particular their thoughts on merchanting. If someone has the patience to stnad there and yell out buying and selling then let them, how does that concern you? You go and cut yews for 30 hours without egtting bored and then sell them on exchange. Your posts irritate me greatly I shall stop reading what you say. Your point of view is hypocritical, narrow minded and in my opinion not very intelligent. Well since this was posted in general discussion i was under the impression my thoughts were welcome, apparently not, sorry for the inconvenience. Also learn the meaning for words before using them, the only way my post could by hypocritical was if i merchanted and I assure you i don't.
