100% spot on, though you forgot to include "call them gai all the time"

Jagex gives banned accounts a 2nd chance.
I agree that people deserve a second chance but should they get the spoils of their offence back? Without the ability to remove the unfarily gained xp/items then letting people back in feels a bit dodgy to me

Herblore going profitable again?
I think its the PvP worlds making them worthwhile again, or at least people thinking that they will and thus buying/selling them at that level

Should dieing in Runescape be more dramatic?
sad, but true. Maybe just have it on in special areas, like boss monsters in quests?

Vote Jagex, Vote RuneScape
If you haven't heard RuneScape and Jagex have both been nominated in this years Golden Joystick Awards, and as I play the game a lot & believe Jagex to be quite a good company on the whole I'm posting up to encourage my fellow players to go and show a bit of luv for the game they also play a ton. The site to go to is http://www.computerandvideogames.com/joystick/vote.php Takes about 3 minutes to cast your vote. Also you may have noticed the rather nice sig I have. If people could add that into their sigs to help get more votes that would be real cool as well. If nothing else a win would give us the ability to go "STFU! They won a golden joystick award" at anyone going "RS am 4 n00bs!!" all the time.

When are you accountable for your actions?
noones fault, all of those examples are just part and parcel of online gaming. It's like if your in a race and your tyre blows just before the line, chances are that the tyre has been checked 1000 times etc so the likely cause is going to be "tyres sometimes just blow out". sucks every time it happens but its part of the game

What is "Rare" to Jagex?
iirc Jagex have confirmed that, however they did say that it works with everything else. if there is an effect from the RoW its a subtle one, and I can't think of a practical way of us experimenting to find out what it is as the numbers involved would just be too big. My approach is to assume that the RoW does work as there would be no point in having such a controversial item in game if it didn't.

Jagex gives banned accounts a 2nd chance.
I can see both sides of the argument on this one and really don't know what I'm feeling about it. It's nice that some folks will get a second second chance, especially with all the rules changes, but then again how many of them will just break the rules again? could work, could be a nightmare. I think only time will tell -.-

6th May 2009 - Bounty Hunter Wilderness-only PvP
heard about the update, logged in on a safe world, got my 2nd best gear from my bank, logged into a wildy world, went about 3 screens in, and died. Got my 3rd best gear, got 2 screens in and died Went to a safe, bought some 4th best gear, went back, and got jumped half a screen in and almost beat the other guy before dying. Absolout laugh! really like the update even if it's going to bankrupt me ;-p

Jagex **& RuneScape** are up for an award
My guess is to reduce 'vote stuffing' and ensure that they have your name if you opt into being sent stuff. Also they just insist on an email, name, and DoB. All of these can be 'modified' so that your vote counts but they don't have any info on you (if your concerend about that) But given the high profile of the sites/mags involved (for example - Edge Magazine) I'd be incredibly suprised if they did anything other than what they say they will (ie - only send you stuff if you want them to and use the details for no evil purposes) as the stink that would generate would far outreach any potential gain from misusing the data. They just want the chance of being able to throw some promo materials at you *if you want them*, which considering the costs of award shows isn't that big a deal.

Most excellent  And now that RuneScape is also in the running I think it becomes an "are" ;-p

Should the HP buffer be raised above 99?
I agree that it should be higher, means that they can add harder monsters without having to include harder gear that unbalances the rest of the game. They've got more and more 'end game' content that they need to sort out some endgame stats, not just endgame items

Boss Monsters
I think the drops are okay, but I'd rather have some sort of marker of having killed the boss. Maybe an achievement diary entry, a title, or a 100% drop rate item to put in your house. Boss kills shouldn't just be about the items, they should also be about the glory of having downed the Cabbage!

Is there Really even a Runescape economy anymore?
I seriously doubt that it's made up, there are too many items for that to happen without it becoming blatently obvious. For example it would just need steel prices to stay the same for 3 days after a steel heavy game update (as, hypothetically, the mod forgot to put in the price change) for people to work out that something was up. This hasn't, to my knowledge, happened. So I'm thinking it isn't happening at all. Personally I think the GE has improved the economy in many ways. I remember when items would stay at the same street price forever because site X had them listed at that price, so every other site had them listed at that price, so noone would trade for any price other than that because that's what the price was (and I know that cause I got repeatedly reported for scamming because I was offering at a price different to what site X had it at!). Now people have more knowledge so they can make better decisions, for example party hats went down in value because suddenly people knew how many of them there were for sale (and, I suspect, because people can't buy the gold to get the item). Their percieved value as a status symbol is lower as you can shop around / know that the guy offering you it for X million isn't the only chance you have to buy. And you can still merchant items, you just need to watch the prices and buy low to sell high later. It takes a bit more time (both in turning a profit and doing your research) but its still possible. I think 'playing the market' might be a better term for it now though, as that's what your trying to do. If you want to merchant then buy a load of items when they are cheap, store them in your bank, then sell them at top prices in small batches a couple of days after the update that needs them. Also time is money (you buy items to train with cause it saves time harvesting them yourself) and as such I've saved at least a mill from not having to spend all my time trying to sell stuff. The GE means I can dump my sells and get on with the game. and it means there are more people willing to trade as there is less chance of being ripped off. So, TL:DR - I likes it, I likes it a lot

People who tell others what to do.
This post wins the "Elequent stating of the blindingly obvious but needs to be said more!!" award of the month =D>. People like you have described drive me mental as well, especially the ones that yell at you ten times harder when you respond with a polite "thank you for the advice, but I'm having fun doing it my way".

Inactive Indicatior
That would be really useful, especially as you have a limit on the number of friends you can have.

Help for quests. Should you use them?
That's totally up to you and what you enjoy about the game. There is no right or wrong about using them, its no more 'cheating' than asking someone for advice in CW. I use them myself from time to time, either if I'm stuck or the content is boring me and I just get to a 'want to finish as I've got this far' state. Seriously dude, the MMO police will not knock at your door for using a quest guide. least not for a first offence

What has happened to Tip.it!?
 Really haven't seen much of a change in my time on here, its basically filled with cool people (some of whom have strong opinions) with the odd person out to offened. Seeing more bad could just be a 'time on the boards' thing, especially as a number of themes/topics have been chewed over so many times that it becomes a blur. But if you think it's got worse there are two options - try and change it or move on. I don't count moving on as 'quiting' though, just that everything has a shelf life and that there is no reason to hang around if that time is past for you.

Thanks for that, another great read (especially the first article)

YOU vs. Mediocrity
I'm not, least not stat or gear wise, and I don't have any especial wish to be. Which isn't to say that I follow the herd or aim for the most generic character possible, just that I'm more focused on doing my thing than standing out from the crowd. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be special in a game like this, however with the number of people playing there have to be at least 5 or 10 others players with the same stats / gear / habits as you so I think people get a little too hung up on the idea of being unique as it's just a pipe dream. I guess I am different from a lot of people in that I play nice, don't flame, and play as a game rather than an obsession. But even in that I'm (thankfully) following the same course as a lot of my fellow players :D

If 99 str is so common, should I feel proud to get it?
Agreed, although 99 in anything is an achievement imo and anyone getting any of them should be proud about it

Jagex **& RuneScape** are up for an award

Jagex **& RuneScape** are up for an award
He got a point there =D> It's a metephorical joystick being used to symbolise any gaming interface/control device as it has a ubiquitos and culturally overt association with the medium. ;)

Jagex **& RuneScape** are up for an award
Hi Just saw on the Jagex Twitter account that Jagex are up for the "UK developer of the year" award in this years Golden Joystick Awards (http://www.goldenjoystick.com/). No listing for RuneScape, suprising imo as I though HD would have got a mention for its pummeling of Java. Voting if quick and easy (guess who I voted for ;-p) and the list is quite an interesting read Update: - I checked out the site and they have added RuneScape to the "Online Game of the Year" catagory!! **** Update - Jagex got through to the UK Developer of The Year shortlist! Please go and vote for them :-) ****
