  1. nah totally this  http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/1983 ... gimcu6.png
  2. you've got some anatomy problems but, nice to see some work from you DementedHero :D My fav part of this so far is the rocks, just work on the details of your characters, make their feet larger, fix the hands and add more into the ground below (looks too empty imo) I made an edit of your character face, much more effective than just lines for eyes. It's ok to use black lines, just don't be afraid to break out of em where needed, check my edit, I've colour over onto the black lines in places, but you can always use the darker colour on the light side of the character in replace of the black if it's too dominating, as it's hard to fit so much detail in a small area, so having blacklines around everything is just making it harder than it needs to be. also you're palette maybe too dark. goodluck
  3. the reason they don't look like coins are that you're shading them as if they are circular, its an improvement from the first which didn't show any depth to individual coins but you've still got to realise that coins are small, flat, metal objects so light will effect a pile more like this.. I suggest work out the shading as if it was just a pile of sand, and use you're dithering to hint shapes of coins.. Figure out your lightsource and just go mad with dithering, not with the usual methods but with 2x2 pixel width blocks. With this I tried to also hint some coins from the side plus some star shines but its up to you as a pixeler to decide how you want it to look. hope that helps at all, they were only quick examples.
  4. np, if you're willin to learn, im willing to help in whatever way I can.
  5. well adding a dark brown or dark blue instead of black can take away from the messiness but I do agree not to use black lines if you're trying not to be cartoony. with your shading, you need more contrast, and shade one side of his face because he looks flat on the screen atm. His eyes are too high, does he have a brain? well if thats how you want your character to look than ok, check out my avatar, that character's anatomy disfigured. You could have im floatin in space, with earth in the bg, starts, the moon, space ship etc.. ?
  6. haha, ur mad megadedhed.. looks great.
  7. oh wow, Jpeg alert  .. Do you all want me to draw out some linework to get those top squares started? I'll interpret Kuroi's sock in there along with the spaceships and a dragon if you all don't mind.. I'll leave the rest for people to colour/edit, im seeing this to look very good O:)
  8. I do agree eckered, being too drastic with your Hue shifts can make it looks too cartoony in some situations, but it's mostly down to your colour saturation, adding tints of other colours does reflect what happens in real life, if you want to make your colouring more realistic I suggest you be much more suttle with your shading, don't dither unless absolutely necissery and don't stick to so little colours. Im only suggesting that, because pixel art is all about working to a certain palette, you've got to learn to make the most of your palette and really understand colour the best you can, don't pretend you do know what colours to pick when you clearly don't.. If it looks too cartoony, so what.. At least you're learning something. I would definately expect you to try learn as much as possible from those around you, or you wouldn't get much better, asking why or how someone selected those certain colours isn't an atempt to become a clone of that person, it's simply to learn why and how.. To possible take that into their work and expand individually as an artist. With this you're trying to make an image using 5 colours you're unfamiliar with, I've gotta comend you for that because restricting yourself can be very difficult. The thing you didn't understand with this is you can use the same colours for the armour as for the face, it's all about how much of one colour you show in one area. I've used red as a base colour with the yellowy/peach colour for the shines, yet that same red can also be used for shadowing his face.. So you don't actually have to choose more colours for the characters face. (don't ask about the crotch area :wall: lol) With your dithering, as you have only 5 colours the contrast between those colours will be much greater so any dithering only really adds as a texture, with metal (armour) you don't don't want any unwanted texture. And with this scale image you'd only have to dither if absolutely necissery where it makes it look smoother, just zoom in and out and judge if your dithering makes any different to your work, its not a must have with pixelart. With my take on this (yes it is cartoony eckered  ) I tried to first deal with the anatomy of the character, the plan is initially symetrical so I know my work won't be slanted and from this I built on a natural outline of the character in my base colour with the red to eventually figure out the best way to add shade. And bit by bit just tweak your character more and more, adding a darker shade were needed and slowly make your way around the character until you're happy with it.. Its fairly straight forward but there's so much more you can do with just a little bit of critique, im sure with a little effort I could make this look more and more realistic eckered.. Take my other piece for example, not even half done and it looks completely different from when I started it. The thing that makes this unrealistic is its anatomy, the chestarmour atm is dis-proportioned and though the shading does have a metalic feel to it, it still looks very flat on the screen. as if you have pillow shaded it, there's nothing wrong with the colour selection, Its the quality of the artwork that makes it look realistic. This is the perfect example of what I mean, kinda sums up what im tryin to say, cheers Helm. Im not suggesting you do this, it just shows the use of colour very well with an excellently proportioned character, this was only 4 colours worth of artwork.. you need to ask yourself if its pixel art you want to do, or do you really want to make things photo-realistic.. Because imo theres no creativity in what your all talking about.
  9. dude thats pretty sweet, nice start with the 3d stuff.
  10. wtever, this is a community collab and claiming them 'yours' is just selfish imo, I gave my honest opinion that it just didn't look right, I've kept your work, repositioned it but those 4 top squares need something different there. If anyone disagree with that then please say so, im just being honest. you're obviously fustrated so thanks for you're contribution, you'll still be apart of this.
  11. well i aint got time to work on anything till the weekend so if anyone wants to expand on eckered's idea, maybe clean the lines, add more details (basically make it ready and finalised to be coloured). And I will happily colour it Friday night, unless someone else wants to. : If no one wants to clean up his sketch I suppose I could always do that too but, seriously I don't wanna have to do everything.. If you aren't happy with eckered's idea then please feel free to post an idea of your own.
  12. well I agree, im reluctant to fill in any more than I already have because its supposed to be a collab, if anyone can just fill in a section just do it because otherwise this'll take ages. ColdVenom, Lordliquid, Random, Kryptic and Pink reserved sections, but I think it's unfair on everyone else that they are taking so long. With no word or anything to what their intentions are or how long they will be, so.. If anyone can find the time please just finish this, if not for Tip.it, then for pjb21  who has just 47 days to live.... ... Oh and Kuroi, I personally think 1, 2, 3 and 4 should be a whole. And it should have something quite spectacular there, on pixelation's grid someone decided to have an air-ballon crashing into the side of the grid, so something like that would be awesome (any suggestions would be great). There's nothing wrong with sock-puppets but imo I don't think it looks right there, maybe here? And it does need working on, looks like a fish with a broken neck atm  , I bet you have a sock lyin around somewhere :| , use that as reference to get the creases right, observe the shadowing. Anyway if someone wants to sketch out something cool on 1,2,3and 4 that'd be great, litterally a paint sketch would do don't worry about clean lines or colour. heres an example of what I mean.. done in line 2 minutes, we're not gonna use it. I want you all to post ideas or just write in suggestions to for what we should have there. opinions people??!?! :anxious:
  13. technically, that would make it not a pixel, as it is only a pixel if eachdot is placed by hand He's on about the non-pixel sig, but yes don't use this technique for pixeling. everything must be manual : also I wouldn't worry about ripping anymore, since you can't sell signatures anymore those darn rippers have dispersed, probably making buddy's somewhere :-k
  14. great attitude Fortress : Made some edits, hope y'all like what are your opinions? the tenticle coming outta the grass didn't make sense, so I added another octopus, spruced up the water a tad.. quickly finished of eckered for im, fixed the palette a bit.. Also made 7 and 8 make more sense, hope you don't mind.
  15. great approach to a tutorial, why didn't I think of explaining what pixel art actually is, and where it came from #-o You've inspired me to work on my own again, update it fully with all the info it initially needed.
  16. I'll finish it for ya eckered. :)

this is a runescape forum, selling for runescape money is against the rules.
  18. I suggest you try out zbrush. If not just look at the quality of some peoples work in the sites gallery, also they've got a 30 day trial. http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/home/home.php not a 3d program btw, it's all 2d and drawn in 2d.
  19. Much better Imo dude =D> remember to look at references for this also, it's almost impossible to re-create metal without first observing what actually happens. I was browsing deviantart and I though of you : .. could help with shading maybe. wtever lol. http://tn3-1.deviantart.com/300W/large/ ... _robot.jpg car part robot by ~madatom13 http://ic1.deviantart.com/fs12/i/2006/2 ... _airaf.jpg anime robot by ~airaf again goodluck with this.
  20. don't think he ripped it, I got the same response when I tried to recreate an image of Tupac straight from reference. All I was trying to achieve was to learn what colours to choose and why they worked. Ah well you can't please everyone runemetsa. erm, ran it through photoshop quickly, and it looks good in 16 colours imo. didn't manually dither it btw, theres an option that does that in save. it looks good anyway though just may be using too many colours than you need...
  21. aliens are difficult to draw and shade as we don't actually have anything close to this in everyday life, so I would really suggest looking for any references on the net to give you better ideas on how you want your alien to look. Try observe how the light effects them, it will help you with your shading. This is pretty good for one of your first pixels, it's good to see you being a bit more creative with what you're doing. Aliens rock  . lol, I've noticed you've got 92 colours in this, which was probably an effort to acomplish, simply using the same few shades of the same colour can be just as effective as selecting a whole new shade each time you want the make a part darker.. Even pic out your shades before hand and try only working with them keeping a palette at the top of your work if you find it easier. Don't make it harder than it needs to be. Anyway there's nothing really I can say to make you an expert, just have fun with it and keep at it. if you need to, check out a few tutorials, lol mine was mentioned. Just a run through of the basics. All user-made tutorials found a third way down this page, Alduron's kindly added a lot of resources info too on this thread. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=431754 -Ter
  22. ok, well firstly just to say the design is pretty sweet so far, and your shading is pretty good so far, my advice would be to up the contrast, and loose a few of you're colours, metal has much more contrast than normal objects so don't be afraid to lighten up the shines and darken the dark areas. I hope you don't mind I made a quick edit to make the most of less colours, more shines and using the darks to define shapes more. but there's seriously not much wrong with your shading, just a few tweaks would improve it so. Also I've added a re-colouring suggestion, as I personally think greys can look a bit dull imo, adding slight Hue shifts should add a little something to this guy. Plus a black background makes him stand out more, plus gives you another shade to add to the detailing. As for his bottom half, too much would be too distracting imo, just something simple like this would do. not sure what you'd prefer. Hope any of that comes as useful, goodluck with this dude. Any other opinions would be great too everyone, awesome suggests there's nothing much to improve on, I say there's always something to be improved. -Ter
  23. You don't need my permission bigsword, it's not my work, I started the thread but it's a team effort :) But I would prefer to see 1,2,3 and 4 as a whole, if you split the work it'd be hard matching the two halfs, but keep going anyway guys, we'll make it work.
  24. Well I gave you a brief crit over msn but just making an edit of your image doesn't help anyone, so maybe I could explain where I feel you could improve. I've not played runescape in a long while so I wasn't sure what armour you were going for here, but I personally thought it looked a bit jaggered, armour is supposed to look shiney and smooth (unless it's a wreck) so I had a go at cleaning up your linework.. While cleaning I notice some small anatomy issues, like your character's left arm looks long at the bicept and short at the fore-arm. I changed it a bit but after a second look I see the problem still remains on my edit  .. His left leg looks all bumpy as if he's broken something, but it could just be how you made the armour to look. The torso seemed the biggest problem as it seems to be facing a different direction than the rest of the body should suggest.. His right leg also looks like the upper part is too long, so I tried changing that too. Aswell as making his right arm in a more relaxed position. Everything else is just using limited colours (only quickly chosen) and AA and probably reflects my style of work more so I don't expect you to simply mimic what I do, I'd just suggest you try work on the anatomy a bit, try alter your palette a tad to make it friendlier on the eyes and maybe smoothen up the linework, also don't be afraid to give your character exagerated male facial features (larger nose smaller eyes) as it can work well, the opposite goes for women and children (smaller nose larger eyes).. Otherwise I think you're doing great. Keep it up. I saw your plan and I know it'd probably be quite hard, it'll definately take up a lot of time but try not to rush any of it, think of each character as a piece of art in itself, not something to fill in the gaps of your signature. ~Ter :
  25. It's 2kb, why would you want it 6? It's a bit blank to me, no real detail but it is a cute little character :
