2/25/2009 - Ash Wednesday Alt Code Glitch

I had fun in world 21 in silence! It was amazing, for once in my life, pking was actually relaxing! Oh, and I lagged reeaaalll bad too, only had 10 hp left and someone was trying to pj me.... wow. anyhow, glad to see the update isn't just for pvp worlds.

This is a java product, so its pretty much universally the same. Its how java was designed :lol: why java is the thing for web game development.

Well, they might try to recreate it. Most bugs are found by accident, I'm betting this one was no different.

What, is it something like BEP? hmmm - I'm curious about this now. Also makes me want to go PKing, figure I'll have my chats off... but not everyone else will. Meh. Please let me know the character after they get this mess sorted out, we've now got a new date to remember: 2/25/09 And you figure the chain of events was, someone mistyped something when they were trying to do an alt code, and everyone around the logged out. And their response was, wtf? and then they tell it to a friend... and BAM... its out of the box, killing everyone.

And the 1000th rant goes to --- "Eww! You play runescape?" When I started playing runescape, it was the kids I babysat for that introduced it to me. I never told them I made an account... they were annoying problem children. I never told anyone at my school I played, I figured nobody cared which video game. Plus, with everyone else addicted to Halo or Wow or the 100s of other games, why would they care which game I played. Now that I'm in college, pretty much everyone knows that I play, and they even reminisce about their old accounts. I keep telling them they need to sign on, they need to check it out, its totally different, but rarely do they ever get on. The one thing I thought this rant was going to be about is another player in runescape calling you a nerd for playing runescape. As if they have to prove something because they've got a life IRL. That sometimes annoys me, but then I've learned that if that's their only beef with you, they've run out of ideas.

Can I put you down as a supporter? I don't think so. It really depends on how Jagex does their rendering. In Java, it is very easy to draw a black box over everything, and set its alpha value (transparency) to something moderately high, and then fade it to black, then fade it back in to completely transparent. Trust me, I've done it before on some of my own java game projects.

I figured I'd be asking a mod to close this today... but they haven't updated it yet. Tomorrow maybe? Every day they fail to act, the prices just get more and more out of hand.

By who's definition? I don't think your opinion is right. Does that automatically qualify it as wrong, and something needs to be done about it? The point I'd like you to see is that just because something isn't "right" doesn't mean that it's by default "wrong" - or that because something is "wrong" that something needs to be done. I believe that our current system of government isn't right, and that our current tax system isn't right. I also believe that politically correctness is a big waste of time. Does this mean that by default all of these are wrong? Does this mean that they all need to be fixed? Does this mean, if I post my one suggestion on how to fix something, and its the only suggestion to fix it, that its automatically right, because it is a suggestion? I think on complex, opinionated issues like this, there is no single RIGHT answer - and so by default there CANNOT be a WRONG answer, except maybe changing it with unforeseen consequences.

I wouldn't object to a "completely f2p" high-score table, I can imagine a time when the minimum total level of a player to be on the top 2 million is 1494, thus bumping of some of our favorite F2P heroes :P. That said, I won't agonize without it. Never had a table like that, don't need a table like that, but it would be a nice, and interesting feature.

As for the fraud part... Did you read the Terms and Conditions when you signed up? No? Oh I'm so sorry. I really have no sympathy for you, mostly because your attitudes towards others i.e. ANTISOCIAL behavior.

The number of PURE F2P players is massive - but the number of PURE F2P players close to or above 1k total levels is something of a rarity. Here's the deal - I have no reason to keep more than 10 million gp in my bank. Its worthless to me past 10 million. The only reason I'm still playing is for the achievements. Eventually I may get to 1494 total levels. Maybe not. But that process is painstakingly slow. Up until this point I have not bought a single level outright. Sure, I may get things to alch, but I always end up even or ahead in terms of GP. I take pride in that, knowing I didn't just dump a bunch of gp to get a few easy levels. I take pride in knowing I was never a member to get easy XP with MANY different ways to train at XP rates 2-5x FASTER than I have now. I know that my 67 RC level, which I'm ranked near 50,000th for, is incredible considering I can't do nature runes, the ZMI altar, or use runners anymore because there is a small trade limit. Same with my level 90 in strength - I don't have any monsters that remain uncrowded for long periods of time, training that was a (female dog) What does all of that pertain to rares? Leveling up is a SLOW PROCESS, one which I could do without. THERE IS NO REASON FOR MORE THAN 10 MILLION GP FOR ME. It takes about 3 months for me to accumulate 10 million gp, and what is there for me to do with that, in f2p? Rares are the answer. Getting a santa hat after grinding for 3 months is a worthy reward. Wearing that santa hat around, letting other players know that I know what I'm doing... Having other players ask me to borrow my santa hat. That, is a worthy reward. Feeling like some other 10 year old is like - "Sees_all1 - he's so cool, he lent me this santa hat for 10 hours for free!"[/hide] If these rares were ever taken out of the game, I would probably quit. The most expensive thing in F2P other than these rares are the god armour, and those are only worth 4 million at most, and can't be worn when run is needed. The same is with holiday outfits. I'm sorry, but when I'm at the GE and some player asks me, "What type of clothing is that!?!" and "Where did you get it!?!" Its the same whenever I see someone do the summoning emote, or the RC emote. What I'm looking at is 1 in less than 3000 players that can do this. Don't worry though, eventually santa hats, h'ween masks, and Phats will become too rare and too valuable to trade.

Its also knowing where to train. Since you're a member, you could have gone to the wilderness and done your task there, I'm sure there are safespots. Or, you could have traveled a bit north where there are more lesser demons, or gone on top of crandor, where there are 2 or 3 more. Usually people are too lazy to go check, and its the same as having them all to yourself. Didn't sound like you thought of that. Or, go into a freaking PVP world. Those are usually deserted everywhere. You could kill your lessers in peace, and teleport if anyone too challenging comes your way. As far as your reactions to other people, I'm sure mommy will make it all better when she kisses you and tucks you in tonight. Seriously though, be respectful. Them being morons doesn't give you the right to be a jerk, and your ranting here about a situation that you didn't put much effort into isn't going to get you much sympathy. So you hopped 2 times. Big whoop. What if those other people hopped 4 or 5 times? There is no, I got here first! These are my lessers! Last thing about the food - seriously? Really? Someone asks for food, just say no. If they persist, its as simple as add ignore, or even just turning public off. Saves you a possible mute.

How about instead of higher chance, less time to mine it? As your mining level goes up, the maximum amount of time to mine an ore decreases. This allows for lower level players to still beat you out, but the rarity of it happening increases with the magnitude of level increasing. I have to say though, I've had this happen to me, except I was the low player, and there was another high player - They had 75 mining, and we were going for mithril. For some reason, I pretty much always got it. I don't know why, but I made sure to keep my mouth shut about it.

I'm not so sure blackmarks should be a requirement - there are many ways to accumulate blackmarks. However, if the idea is that a player without blackmarks is unlikely to spam the forums, then perhaps there should be a different requirement? I could understand it if Jagex was stricter on the forums about spam to those of us in F2P, maybe 3 strikes and you're out - but I believe an overall stricter atmosphere of no nonsense would do the forums some good. A high level requirement would also deter people from creating multiple accounts just to post in case another one of their accounts were banned. So - I've suggested 759 total levels, I've seen 1000, 1100, playing for more than a year, no blackmarks, higher than level 90 combat. Any other suggestions? I think 1000 or higher may be a little tough, I've been playing now for a good 4 years, and I still only have 991 total levels. Granted, I haven't raised range or defense and attack very high, but my runecrafting level is superior, along with my strength. Asking for a f2per to get 1k total levels is like an average of 66 in each stat - and that's nearing 7.5 million? experience. Which, gives me an idea. Could total experience be a factor in this? For instance, 10 million total experience grants you forum access? That way, you don't necessarily have to train things you don't enjoy.

IS this a debate? There is another variable you haven't accounted for - Melee requires 2 skills to be trained. 99 strength and 1 attack won't do anything for you, likewise, 99 attack and 1 strength will do very little for you. A range tank or mage tank maxes out well before CB lvl 126 - and that's why Melee isn't overpowered.

Genie lamps, Books of Knowledge and the like are your friend! Isn't one of the rewards from Swept Away like, 10x experience soup?

Yeah so my clan was talking about something today when I logged on, but I didn't see what it exactly was. As soon as I enter the cc something comes up saying: "Gotta love them Blue Tubes mat xD". Then another friend of mine says "Nah He likes GreenTube xD". Then there was some random talk about differant color "tubes" which I have no idea what it is. So just trying to act cool and all I reply: "Lol mat, do you like tubes that are red?" even though I have no idea what a tube is. Any I still have no Idea what a Red Tube has anything to do with porn. I just don't see the connection. Is that your idea of a positive contribution? "tubes that are red?" I figure it would be awesome to have a PMod status - just, without the stars. Every time I see someone type out some string with perfect accuracy at a rate which screams autotyper, I'd love to just shut them up for 24 hours. Whenever I see someone spamming a chat just for the hell of it, or getting past the filter, I want them to know its not OK - there are other people who see their idiocy. The one thing I don't care about is the silver crown - I figure it would be annoying to have to deal with everyone asking "So I had this friend who ... and I reported him. Can i haz mod status too?" Heck - Jagex Secret Modship ftw.

With whats written, or whats discussed? I've got no intention right now of changing the apparate spells from what is currently written, as I believe it is very straight forward. I'm not sure how luring would be easy with the apparate spells, figure a teleport into falador is an easier lure, and would result in quicker death.

So, the Triangle - where Magic is supposed to beat Melee is supposed to beat Range is supposed to beat Magic? And You're proposing that Magic > Melee = Range > Magic? So that in essence, Range beats all? I don't get it.

No - I said it fixes F2P Mage. If you take a look, about 1/2 the spells ARE NOT F2P. The reason for this is to make this spellbook like the original, providing some F2P functionality along with better P2P functionality. Btw - I did give them some better spells, Fire Pulse is Level 80 and hits up to 22. Also, all the pulse spells use a couple deaths instead of blood. The only spell I could imagine to be overpowered is "Awareness" - but as you can see, the cost of casting this is about 50k for 10 minutes, it also decreases defense and accuracy - so there's a trade off.

For all of you who believe F2P Mage is under powered after a certain level, PLEASE check out the suggestions I made. A link to it is in my signature. Note that I put considerable effort into it, so GOOD FEEDBACK, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, and WELL THOUGHT OUT SUGGESTIONS are appreciated. Haven't updated this for a while, not used to having a blog. Today / This weekend I focused primarily on smithing and mining. As you can see in my sig, I've increased both. Once I made 303 mithril bars, I got bored of it and smithed them into mithril battleaxes. Pretty sure that was a complete waste of GP, but I don't care because its all pretty much found money, and xp. I've got 9 levels to go for 1000 total level, and I suppose I could get that tomorrow if I wanted to train (relatively) easy levels, such as range, defense, or attack. I could also dump a bunch of money on crafting and get it up fast too, or smithing. I also intentionally broke about 15 rune pickaxes... they sold for max instantly. I don't have any left, so I would be out anything if they change the game. In the entirety of my RS career, I don't remember ever spending a bunch of money on a skill for the sake of raising it up. That said, I will occasionally do "free alchs" or smith mithril bars, but in the end I end up even or ahead by a small margin. Last Friday night I realized I had enough gp in the bank for a Green H'ween Mask - so I went to world 1 and bought it. Its been fun ever since wearing it - now I've got a santa hat and a h'ween mask. I'm wondering what I should go for next, a red h'ween mask, a blue h'ween mask, a disk of returning, or something else? I'll worry about that when I've got about 10-14mil sitting in my bank. Oh - other exciting news. IRL - Just had a CS159 exam, scored a 99 / 100, with the possibility of the teacher dropping a few questions. I was also offered a Co-op position at Thomson Electronics. I'm waiting to hear back from Raytheon, Argon St, Weyerhauser, NASA, and Dassault Falcon Jet. I'm excited - the chance to make money while still being in college is unbelievable, especially in the current economic times. Lastly - I've made a suggestion for a new magic spellbook.
