  1. As most of us know, yesterday on June 24, 2010, Jagex updated all existing Climbing Boots into Rock Climbing boots which had the same bonuses as the former, but cost roughly 75k more. As before the update, you are now able to buy both the no-stat regular climbing boots for 12gp from Tenzing the Sherpa, or buy the more expensive Rock Climbing boots for 75,000gp from Tenzing that have a Strength Bonus. You are able to buy both, correct. However, The statless climbing boots are untradeable (keep this in mind). All the existing climbing boots before this updates were turned into Rock Climbing boots, with the same bonus, just a different name and price, that are TRADEABLE. Why did Jagex make a pay-off to everyone who collected the boots by increasing their price 75,000 coins? They could've released Rock Climbing boots as a completely SEPERATE item, instead of "upgrading" all existing regular climbing boots into rock climbing boots, as well as making regular climbing boots a statless and untradeable item. This would mean that Rock Climbing boots could still be bought from the Sherpa for the same price of 75k, but be untradeable to other players, as well as UNALCHEABLE (so there would be no sudden billions of gp flowing into the economy that cause worries of inflation, through either trade OR alching). The regular boots would remain at 12gp while remaining tradeable and alchable, instead of being untradeable and unalchable. Yes, you might be thinking, but no one would pay 75,000 coins for those boots, because there are other boots, similarily priced, that have the same strength bonus and much better defensive stats (such as Rune boots), HOWEVER, there would be no UNECCESSARY INTRODUCTION
  2. Magic is nowhere near overpowered. The fact is that all the powerful "end-game" weapons are all ridiculously powerful, some belonging to melee, others to ranged. The fact that Magic seemingly got "overpowered"with the Arcane Stream necklace, despite the only way to use it at its best is to go absolutely all out with 99 Magic and one of the best Magic offensive bonuses possible, actually means Magic is much closer to being balanced in power then being overpowered. Magic is once again close to where it should be in the combat triangle. To help you understand, nuclear weapons are overpowered. One country can have 5 nuclear warheads. Another has 5. The third country has 2 or 3 nuclear weapons, meaning there's no balance of power between those three countries. Said country builds 3 more nuclear warheads to keep up the balance of power between them. Magic may be "overpowered" on the surface, but it's actually a balance of power in respect to the damage melee and ranged can do (which were superior to magic before this update). Not to mention you have to go 100% all out w/stream Necklace and the best Magic boosting gear to even match the brokeness you can inflict with Ranged and Melee w/o even trying. which means Magic is actually barely balanced with Ranged and Melee now. A player with level 86 strength with a 148 Strength Bonus (Armadyl Godsword, Dragon Gauntlets, Dragon Boots, Helm of Neitiznot, Amulet of Glory) with Ultimate Strength prayer, Super Strength Potion and AGS special can potentially inflict 580 damage. 99 Magic, which is a lot longer to get, with Arcane Stream necklace and the best offensive Magic bonus possible, can hit over 600 with Ice Barrage. The player with the same strength-boosting gear but with 99 strength can hit 676...which is about the absolute maximum Magic can hit with one attack. Melee can hit even higher with a maximum +205 strength bonus and 99 strength, inflicting over 900 damage, with a single AGS special. Ranged can two hit someone with over 900 hp in a single special: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzpanCqXuL4 (old HP system). You think Magic is overpowered? Not by a longshot. and lol@people saying Ranged is underpowered. Ranged generally dominates melee in the PvP triangle and can freakin' 2 hit people with 1 DarkBow special. That is not right.
  3. oh thank you goonstalf ^_^

  4. In my day, we didn't have any fancy Grand Exchange - we had to walk to meet up with other players to make transactions, and the possibility of getting scammed was very high. People would stand in the banks or around them in certain pre-designated sections that told you what category of items they were buying/selling - for example, there was a rares section, a rune armour section, an amulets section that was located in that anvil place south of west Varrock bank, etc. It was more convenient than the GE, technically, if you knew where to go + waited for some good deals, as there were always people selling/or buying on World 1+ 2. And I mean ALWAYS. Back in those days, World 1 was always almost full no matter what time of the day it was. Ahh, good times.
  5. How did Salmoneous even make it above silver much less gold?? Their guides are rarely even updated in their guides and their tools are outdated as well!! RuneHQ should be a tier lower and Tip.it should be in RHQ's place considering how RHQ had more link to phishing/scam/RWT sites for longer than Tip.it, and their community is no where as good as ours. I'm shocked and appaled >=[
  6. If they have released a Demo to let new players get a feel of the game and how to move around in it, does that mean the Tutorial you have to complete after registering will be removed?
  7. Just last week I got up to barely over 12.5M xp (by 47 points) to post on the forums >_> I'm actually kind of dissapointed that they made the requirements this low. I can earn that much experience in a couple of months =-/ They should make F2P like me feel like it's worthwhile that they earned it
  8. It's like there's always some massive glitch this time of year. Last year we had the ยต glitch (February 25 2009), lol
  9. This post is right on the money, if it wasn't posted I would have, you could edit the files, change data items etc because it's stored locally on your computer and not on jagexs servers True. But even if it were hackable, you're not connected to a Jagex server. So any changes on the account on your computer won't affect your online in-game account. So it's almost like a private server, actually. The only difference is that you need an internet connection to connect to a private server. This would be a good idea I think, in a way. It would get rid of the problem of private servers for the most part, and you wouldn't need to connect to the internet, so you could play even if your ISP crashed or something, and you have the free will to edit your stats and items =P
  10. This guy is amazing

    *bows down*

  11. None of these clicking/lag problems are happening to me. I have the highest setting on everything except for RSHD and I'm not lagging at all =p
  12. No one caught the "Thriller" reference? Anyhow I'm glad they're coming out wiht more DevBlogs about these areas of concern. They really are doing more to reach out to the community, in a way.
  13. I can be found in Clan Wars, or in Karamja fishing lobs for money :
  14. Erm, that's not what people are saying. No, but it's a good point. I feel it's no one's fault, it just happened. Jagex isn't perfect and the victim isn't either. But the way Jagex presented the game and the postponing of it's release to fix further glitches found with it and what not, just gave victims a false sense of security. But, at least the victim in question will know better next time, don't bring nay valuable items in after the first hours of release.
  15. Naw/ I couldn't give a rat's [wagon] as I'm F2P ^_^ just wanted some discussion I just noticed there was a post about this posted a minute before mine in this board that has pictures of replies from a Jagex mod debunking the ranter's claims. "BE ADVISED" is the title. The ranter in question has very good PKing and moneymaking stats and I doubt he would've used the rant as a cover to get items back that he lost on death, if he were lying, or whatever the situation would be if the ranter's claims are false. So I have plenty of reason to believe him.
  16. I didn't see your thread and I posted mine 1 minute later ont he same >_< Sorry dude =p
  17. Now I know that when minigames are first released, they aren't all perfect and they have some glitches, but I didn't expect this in the case of Mobilising Armies. It is a bit silly but here is a rant from the RSOF: (this was not my rant as I am F2P nor do I have >12.5MXP) QFC: 129-130-208-59125105 Ignore the caps, typical of a BAWWW RSOF forum ranter. But he does have a good reason here. Seriously, Jagex. You hold off Mobilising Armies for about half a year, and this glitch goes unnoticed? Or was it noticed or swept under the carpet? Even if it is deemed a little ridiculous because he logged out of the tutorial (Isn't there an "X" button to exit the tutorial or something)? or I could understand a little he needed to exit because it was too long or too boring, but come on Jagex. The guy lost 350M in a glitch you had 6 months to find and work on, plus the time before that. I also believe some Partyhat inflation will occur, as another one fell victim to this glitch and lost her partyhat set (First post page 5). How many PHats are there in the game? I think a loss of a whole set should cause a little inflation, at least. Naturally, they (the rnaters) are demanding a rollback. But I don't think a rollback allows you to get items back accounted to a glitch. My thoughts on this: This is why I wait a while before going to test out nay minigame by Jagex, no matter how much "QA testing" is performed on it : Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Jagex even started getting people to sign liability wavers before playing/testing out a minigame =p My advice before a big update: WAIT a while before trying out a mini-game, bank valuable items when trying out a new mini-game BANK your valuable/rare items CLEAR your Grand Exchange offers (remember the Run Energy update glitch? Most.Chain.Glitched.Update.Ever.)!* LOGOUT SAFELY when you are COMPLETELY done trying out a mini-game to avoid a loss like the above rant. *Partially joking on that one, as that glitch was exclusive only ot that update while there were several other updates that displayed cases that weren't, for the former and latter. I believe Jagex needs to at least pick some experienced players ot QA their updates/mini-games before they're officially released -.- or at least give some sort of reimbursement for a loss. Seriously. They are paying for this members feature, they were patient, Jagex holds it off for 6 months for "bug testing". Not even that is reassurement enough when you see that this has slipped through Jagex's notice >_> I agree with a quote on this forum:
  18. It took me two weeks to get off tutorial island >_< I was stuck on the second tutor Once, a clan member gave me 5000 air runes, 5000 fire runes and 5000 mind runes for free (this was before the the trade limit, of course). I sold them all for about only half of what they were worth >_> I could've been a level 50 with 300k =(
  19. Did anybody retaliate against America when they invaded Iraq? Neither will they when we bomb North Korea. And Iraq wasn't in many countries' "Hate List". The other countries would fear they they are our next target. I honestly think that there is an AntiAmerican group of countries out to get us, considering that we are the world's only superpower. China is a superpower, the EU collectively is a superpower Also, the US retaliating against an attack from NK is about 20 leaps from them going to war with a country we have no justification to attack. I think Russia is also still a superpower. And they can build more efficient nukes than the US, that's for sure. I saw the stats comparing a pair of them
  20. Agreed. And who knows, because we're allies with our Southern Neighbors, they might try to attack us too =S
  21. So you tested something out for "a bit," and tell us that we're overhyping? Exactly -- I'm going to take the word of those who have spent hours and hours tricking. They wouldn't do it if there weren't a huge payoff. As I've said before, the trick is not the kind of thing that is inherently fun. If there weren't a big payoff, nobody would do it. No, I tried the trick for even longer than that. And the system you're talking about absolutely fails. At best, the loot one could pull off with this trick is maybe ~150K. The EP goes down regardless of the value of the 26K trick drop, so if oyu get a [cabbage]ty drop trying to abuse the system, you'll get a [cabbage]tier drop the next time you try it. Stop overhyping things. Honestly. There's no problem affecting the economy in this way >_>
  22. I tried sitting around for a bit and gaining EP. Doesn't work. Only works when you're in a fight. And I tried the 26K trick, I only got ~40K of loot. You guys are over hyping it. Also, when you get a drop, your EP goes down, no atter what the value of the drop.
  23. He nailed the skiller part pretty much but there isn't only skillers in this game price manipulation effects everyone especially monster hunters and pkers because pots are bought out alot compared to other items. This thread can't realy be ended until Jagex states whether or not they view it as against the rules or not and then yet there is still discussion to be made about that. Agreed. RuneScape is too diverse in the way it functions in serving players, because skills, goods and money are all connected, so indeed you have a point that there aren't only skillers. I mean, skillers arne't the only ones that need to buy/use goods produced from skills, no matter hwat type of skiller they may be. Price manipulation affects everyone, from "skillers" to PKers who need the PKing goods to help enjoy the thrill of PK'ing (and MvP, Monster vs Player). In a way, PKers and monster hunters can also be considered a kind of skiller because they are using a skill, or leveling a skill in the process of obtaining money or some other good from a monster/player in return for money, other goods or some service. One final point for me, I also agree with your last one, but I'd like to extend on it. While price manipulation may be unfair in the eyes of many, because so many of our players interact in some way with skillers that produce the goods that are under the effects of price manipulation, whether the interaction is direct or indirect. It may not be a written rule, and it can be debated if it is unwritten rule, or that the absence of this rule implies that price manipulation is OK, but if it gets too far out of hand to benefit only the clan manipulators, regardless of the general view of price manipulation, Jagex should step in to make it so that no one is used the merchant's advantage, or that the effects are much lessened. I am not specifying what Jagex could do to make it "fair" for the majority of RS players that are not self sufficient under the case of price manipulation, because I haven't formed any practical solutions yet. But if someone at Jagex oculd look at my post and get an idea of how to effectively combat price manipulation, that'd be great. What I'm trying to say is, though, while price manipulation is in a bad limelight, those kinds of people shouldn't have their source taken away from them (i.e. removal of GE, or trading caps). Just very lessened to the point where it is NOT price manipulation, but simply merchanting for a profit, as you can see because there is a diffrence between those two terms. I'd like the way the trading system in the GE works to be fair to everyone, and not beneficially geared to one party of RS so others can complain. Because I tell you, if the system was more geared towards money skillers (e.g. VERY high prices for raw goods that money skillers could obtain easily due ot their level in that skill), for example, clan manipulation would not be in such a bad light, but'd rather be seen as the solution to combatting the prices for those goods that "money skillers" use as their source of money, because then they could use it to drive down the prices of the raw good that is making the "money skiller" money. But because this isn't the case this point is kind of moot =p Another way to look at this though, is thru directly dealing with clan manipulators, such as banning them, as many suggested.. Often, a LOT of these players were HARD working people at one point, but turned to merchanting (solo) after they had earned enough money, and who wouldn't? Merchanting is superior to raw work in several ways and can earn you more money faster. But when the GE was introduced, (solo) merchanting quickly mutated into clan manipulation. I mean, merchanting still exists, but it has never changed form, and it has never died as some claim, witht he release of the GE. Rather, a larger scale form of it has become availble with the release of the GE. And this was made more efficient with the release of Clan Chat beforehand, so members of those clans could communicate and work efficiently. And clan manipulation explains itself, as their is no middle ground between solo merchanting and clan maniplation, because when you get a crowd of merchants working together, you are more able to controla nd manipulate a part of a market. The profits are just split between tou and other members in your clan.
  24. My stand on manipulator clans: They are using other players by luring them with false promises of wealth, and that is for every manipulator clan out there. The only ones not enduring negative effects for the clan leader's wealth advancements are the members that are in the area or have a greater amount of wealth (and assuming they are buying out and dumping at sensible times). These clans know what they are doing and are bragging about it publicly. And just because clan manipulation isn't written in the rules doesn't make it not wrong, it's common sense and an unwritten rule. It is just unfair to other players who work honestly for their money. The clan leaders may mis-ninform others as to when to buy or sell, causing them to lose money while the clan leaders gain money from their loss. If you a part of a merchanting clan, always check the price graphs for those items and decide from there when to sell or buy, don't take a leader's word for it, as it may cost you. Another way is to just not invest that much money into an item or avoid those kinds of clans completely. From a non-merching perspective Let's say your way of making money is by fishing, on fishing lobsters is your thing. You are saving up for a gold-trimmed rune set. You're about halfway to your goal of obtaining enough money to buy the set when you notice the price of the lobster has gone down since you started on it. It turns out there is a manipulator clan dumping HUGE (10M+) amounts of lobster at max. Because of this sudden availability of lobster, the demand is satisfied and the price is lowered, but only after the clans have made their profit by driving the price up by buying out massive amounts of what YOU worked HONESTLY for, and you don't even have anywhere near that amount of lobsters for that to barely effect you, because you aren't looking to make millions in a short amount of time by using others to your advantage. How are they using others? They take the product of one's hard work by buying it out, driving the price up and then dumping it! You may think at the start, that you have it good because there is a large demand (at the moment) for your goods. But when they start to go down in price, after the clan has dumped them and they are near impossible to sell, you are against clans using you to advance their wealth, but you haven't realized it till now. From a buyer perspective You are wanting to buy 1K raw lobsters for 78 cooking but can't get what you need because they are being bought out by larger, richer manipulator clans, which places you at the bottom of the queue for an order. Only when the prices for that item go down, when the clan has reached the dumping portion of the manipulation process, are you satisfied, because you can finally buy what you want and for cheaper than market! On the seller side, he/she will not be satisfied because there is less of a demand for that item because large amounts of that item have been dumped, driving down the price. Combining these perspectives, you can see how these people were used by manipulator clans to further the clans profits while the skillers get the short end of the stick, at any point in time while the process of clan manipulation is going through. Really, the only way to NOT be affected by clan merching is: a)having a source of money that isn't recklessly merched by manipulator clans OR B) having a MASSIVE amount of the item that is being merched that you obtained yourself thru skills and NOT money, because you don't lose money if you did not spend money to earn that massive amount of goods. In essence, there are ultimately 2 kinds of players: self sufficient and ones that support themselves by any mean where money from or to a particular item is involved. The ones that are self sufficient won't complain about price falls because they are self sufficient and have not spent nay money in obtaining their goods. One kind of consumer type (the market involved in the sale of that item) will complain because they won't be able to sell their goods because of lack of demand. They will only be satisfied when Jagex makes an intervetion or beforehand, when the price of an item is rising due to manipulator clans buying it out (if they are "skilling" for MONEY). If the in the process, it causes them to lose money, they will complain. But on another side completely, if you are looking to BUY an item and it won't sell because they are being bought out in massive amounts by those clans, this, is where you will complain You can never please all 3 kinds of these people at the same time a)Skillers are impartial (regardless of a price rise/fall for an item they are obtaining raw) because they are self-sufficient b)"Pseudo-skillers" (for lack of better term) that buy raw goods to level their skills up, such as the case with RC'ers, won't be pleased when the prices go up for that item because that means either that they pay more money to get that item and therefore, lose profit OR won't be able to buy the item at all; and C)The "Money skillers", the ones that are a mix of true skillers and "pseudo-skillers", they SKILL for MONEY. They won't be pleased because the item they are obtaining raw is going down in price, thus less of a demand, thus harder to sell, thus less money coming in. True skillers are impartial, so they are neutral towards the subject. Pseudo skillers' view on clan merchanting is that it is ONLY BAD when the skiller in question cannot get the item they are paying for in question, due to it being bought out by merchant clans in much larger amounts, thus placing them upwards in the sale que. Money skillers view on merchantinf is that it is ONLY BAD when they cannot sell their raw item for money due to it being DUMPED by the merchant clan in question, thus decreasing the demand for the item that the raw skiller has worked for. No one looks at clan manipulating from the whole picture, only from 1 angle, and each angle is biased because they are doing (or want things) going their way to benefit them and no-one else, but if the process shifts and they are forced to skill in a different way or cannot make money/spend money to continue to level in a skill, they say clan manipulation is unacceptable, but where the involvement of money is geared toward their benefit, they won't complain. I'll say it right now, there is no system or system update that can defeat clan merchanting as a whole (save the removal of the GE, which will cause riots, surely), and any update to a system in any form will only be geared in favor toward one party (skillers, money-skillers or pseudo-skillers). The majority that say clan manipulation is bad, are in fact, only vouching that because they can't get what they want, and these claims are made from psuedo and money-skillers, which is what, 90% of RS? So from taking that standpoint, clan manipulation does seem unfair and should be made "illegal", but I'll tell you three things: a)You get what you get b)You definetely /won't complain when things are geared in favor to your party (price rises for money skillers and price falls for pseudo-skillers( c)clan merchanting can't be beaten as a whole, save the removal of the GE and in theory (explained below the paragraph after the next paragraph) Self sufficient skillers will ridicule the other 2 parties for being upset because they won't take the former's way of efficiency, saying "Don't like it, don't play the game" "try being self-sufficient for a change" "money is the root of all evil/all our problems" "I'm better than you and won't run into these problems because i'm self sufficient" etc. Let me tell you one thing too, don't try to compare clan manipulation and the only person with 99 smithing forcibly driving up rune prices as the same thing, and offer your opinion as to the solution pertaining to only that perspective, because he/she is the only one that can produce those iterms. If you've played long enough or are a self-sufficient person, you'll know that those 2 don't compare because clan merchanting was almost non-existent back then and that we did not have these kinds of problems at all back in early RS2 and Classic because the GE was not implemented yet. You can't please everyone. If clan manipulation is getting you this upset, the reason is clear: because of a flawed trading system with the GE. The only way to theoretically stop clan merchanting as a whole is to balance supply and demand, which is impossible because there are too many different classes of players, each fitting into their own respective categories (pseudo skiller, money skiller and true skiller, some are a combo) and thus each have their own needs, which will always unbalance supply and demand because the needs are not equal with each other.
