The only real communities affected are clans, I suppose. It's a shame, but then Jagex's chat systems aren't exactly sophisticated. Plenty of clans have irc channels already, and you can talk there regardless of which version of the game you're on - perhaps people should try it out?

Ha. Hahahahahhahahaha. Common sense? Good grief. The comparison to DA though is unfair, given that "the game" acts as a 3rd party. Yes, you can still be scammed (VLS/summoning/whatever) but it takes the added risk out of the situation and for the most part relies on you not being a dumbshit BEFORE the fight. 1. Rule switches - easy to spot & your fault if you get scammed. However, there are numerous alternative bugs with the DA. Weapon smuggling, the ability to stop your opponent from attacking back, and the ability to have a friend heal you and boost your stats with butterfly jars being three such methods from the last couple of months. There have been hundreds over the years. Not to mention ddosing, which is something anyone who uses SwiftIrc and stakes for a long time will have to deal with. Player - player gambling in any of the really big clans was far safer than staking will ever be. Unfortunately they're mostly all gone now, so things are much riskier. Apple is the only clan I'd trust these days. And I'm not ranked there so that's not a plug. -

Vann wasn't a gold farmer, even if he did sell gold. Gold farmers refers to bots/people (typically chinese) being paid to camp something that is easily accessible and typically quite low gp/hr, e.g. green dragons. -

Which is the reason people need to record all bets, or better yet ask the host to livestream it. I can state that the Queen owes me £1000000, but without evidence it's meaningless. -
And according to Alkan he got a job and bought gp to fund buyables as it was more efficient.

You should do something completely out of the ordinary like fletching or firemaking next. On a serious note, maybe 200M def @ glacors to make some gp for buyables whilst getting 250k+ def xp/hr? 200M slayer barely gets you one 200M melee these days, so you wouldn't be screwing yourself over :P Also gratz :)- 4551 replies

I don't think you realise that RuneScape is not a democracy. It's a dictatorship. Jagex will do whatever they want (as long as they see some benefit, monetary or otherwise). If you don't like it, tough. Not true at all. A JMod decided that slayer xp in the EoC was too high, so they nerfed it. A group of players argued why they should un-nerf it. Jagex hotfixed the xp rates back to the previous rates today. Yes they have the ultimate power to say Yes/No, but if you don't like it and have good reasons that are shared by others, it's not 'tough' at all. They do occasionally listen. In this case, I doubt anything will get reverted however :P -

Out of curiosity, do you have the numbers for buyers? I'm remembering a time in mid-2007 where the mod team went after RWT'ers, and we'd watch players in the generic staker gear of the day pick up their gold and hop straight to world 6. I'm wondering if today's would-be gamblers recover from their losses by buying gold (Even on a higher scale - regardless of what Vann might argue, high level players break the rules quite regularly). Obviously I've never actually RWT'd, but I'd imagine most stakers would buy and sell gold using websites rather than directly to one another, as RWTing generally involves some sort of trust trade. If a successful staker were to lose a lot, they'd generally get a loan from a friend and continue staking until the maths does its thing. Obviously that has its own problems - Channel 4 (One of the worst pieces of shit to ever log onto this game) was once relatively trustworthy, and took several Bill in loans he couldn't repay and ended up stealing around 15B off Gws2 (his friend at the time). People also tend to keep funds in a liquid state, so they sell their gold whilst up, but keep some of it in a PP or other easily transferable format, so that if they get a bad luck streak, they can buy back the starting cash. Stake based RWT tends to use sites as a Middle Man - with gambling, the owner of the fc usually has their own website that allows the gambler to buy money back off the host, but usually at an extortionately high rate compared to the market value of gold. For example, our site charged $.70/M at a time when gold was barely worth half of that. But people paid it as they were willing to pay extra because of the 0% chance of being scammed. Our site was https://wad.rs/ (the site is dead now and you can't buy or sell gold there) So gambling based RWT is where you see the cycle of Player loses bank -> buys bank back off host -> loses bank etc. Whereas the DA tends to involve the staker buying gold that probably came from bot farming. People get on at hosts because hosting was more easily accessible - 6B for a general rank in Win All Day or 7 in dragon dyce and you were good to go. Consider that dicing became popular just after a lot of people became very rich from the release of Nex, and you can see where the first wave of hosts got their rank money from. Stokenut is a famous (ish) example of someone who did this. Staking properly involves a lot more knowledge of how the game works and skill - tick perfect prayer on plate on staking takes a long time to perfect. So people don't tend to get involved with the staking community and so don't understand the extent of RWT, ddosing and general underhandedness that goes on there. -

Incorrect. This is clearly them actually doing something about the issue, and its not Pmods doing it. They've clearly had enough of the likes of Fishy and other dicing hosts pissing all over them, thinking they can do whatever they like without fear of the repurcussions. Now there are some, they're whining. Yes they should have stated that they were going to do the mutes, Yes I do think it was unfair upon Vann and such to be muted without warning, but I believe it is perfectly justifiable. To begin to stamp down on something that has ruined the game for so many, torn the economy apart and given rise to rwt like never before, and an ubelievable level of ignorance and ego, should be praised. tl;dr Kudos to Jagex for doing something about gambling. First of all, bot farming accounts for the majority of RWT. Secondly, the players who RWT'd the most were the first proper stakers, before the introduction of PID, who were able to get ideal IP addresses to ensure priority. Win All Day made a relatively small amount from hosting ('only' about 150B from dicing and 100 from flowers) compared to what he did from staking. Should the DA be removed as well then? If the RWT aspect of dicing is so bad, then why is the DA, which is considerably worse, and is a focus point for breaking real world laws with denial of service attacks, and even the occasional distributed attack, still allowed to remain in game? Even as a method of earning gp, the DA is more unbalanced than hosting, especially since the advent of drygores. The player with PID in a drygore stake has a 5% higher chance of winning than the host did with frosty flowers. So the DA is 1.) Responsible for more RWT than dicing. 2.) Responsible for far more serious forms of RL law breaking than dicing. 3.) Responsible for even more unbalanced methods of earning GP than dicing. Even though it'd be against my personal interests to remove the DA, it really is the greater of the two evils. -

Actually we have been doing H/C, FP, and ABC since we opened in November. So there are serious clans that do H/C. Don't call us scammers because the "big" world 2 clans are all frosty/fp. No offence, your signature states "over 75 billion paid out" when WAD has had that much pass through our fc in a single day, when for instance the owner of Legit One bet (and lost) his bank on our hosts. Not that this is really a good thing, just that as I said, the big clans don't do H/C as the odds in H/C are better for the bettor than frosty. Not calling you scammers, just saying that h/c games aren't the real problem, and that if Jagex is serious about tacking the issue they should also deal with ff and fp, especially as fp is by far the most popular game. As for the morality of it, I don't play video games to show people what a fair and all round good person I am. I play them to relax and have fun. RS, and any other MMO, are just video games. As far as I see it, choosing to host was simply me choosing the most efficient money making method at the time. Once I had the base bank value that the average gp/hr staking was higher than that hosting, I stopped paying my weeklies and haven't hosted a single bet since then. That's all it is - an efficient money making method that, at the time I did it, was just as within the rules as camping Nex was. Whilst Dragon Dyce were purchasing PMods to mute us, I would email billing support and explain the situation, and every time I did so I received an apology and the mute was reverted. Jagex quite clearly didn't have an issue with hosting at the time, or else why wouldn't the JMods have let the mutes stand? RWT is an entirely separate issue. As I have stated before, players selling gold acquired through hosting and staking make up only a minority of the RWT market. Not even mentioning the fact that floor sellers and PVM'rs are just as prone to such activities. -

Is frosty X 2 muteable? No serious clan has done hot/cold for months, all this'll do is stop the random guys @ the ge who are obviously scammers. Unless they make frosty/fp muteable words, nothing will change. -
Tested this and it worked. Don't need to talk in game to do a daily dg anyway :P

I hate the EoC, but I've never had a problem cancelling out of a channeled ability. Whilst the game appears to lock you in place for one tick, your character runs off to the new location very quickly - you were in fact there all along, but your client didn't catch up because it was too busy displaying the attack animation.

Being 1 xp away from it isn't the same as getting it. Sure, he could get it whenever he wants to, but he didn't get 5B xp yet, he got 4,999,999,999. Him choosing not to get it for whatever reason, doesn't mean you can ignore that last xp point. It's almost negligible for sure, but only almost. If you're 1 xp away from level 99, you're still level 98.

Granted, but then you realize that everyone else on this board is in fact a result of your severe multiple personality disorder, and you've been playing with yourself all along. No pun intended. I wish I could watch Game of Thrones on TV @ the same time the Americans get it.

Icefiends/Slayer XP nerfed to the ground
Fallstar replied to Calm Koala's topic in General Discussion
Yeah they've made the good tasks worse, but they've left what used to be good tasks pre EoC like Mutated velds with terrible xp rates, and they've left cannon/titan being no where near as effective as they were pre eoc, with the end result that slayer is now in even more of a mess than it was. -

Icefiends/Slayer XP nerfed to the ground
Fallstar replied to Calm Koala's topic in General Discussion
Halving the xp rates would put it below pre eoc numbers, do you have any numbers to back this up? Go and kill a slayer creature, and you will get around half the slayer xp from it that you would have done yesterday. Not sure about lower levelled tasks, but most Kuradal tasks have had this happen. E.g. Steel dragons; 389 -> 200 xp Ganodermic beasts; 629 -> 305 xp Mithril dragons; 880 xp -> 305 xp Kalphite King also had the slayer xp halved. -
Icefiends/Slayer XP nerfed to the ground
Fallstar replied to Calm Koala's topic in General Discussion
In semi related news, jagex nearly halved the slayer xp from most slayer tasks. People aren't sure if it's intentional or not yet, but either way, yet another example of Jagex leaving something alone for a few months, letting people train significantly faster, and then nerfing it. I'm beginning to think there's a Jmod out there who makes each skill really easy to train, then nerfs it when he's done. Only half joking. In the list of training methods that have been left for months or years before being nerfed, we now have: Effigies Flash powder factory Runespan Barraging/Chinning @ Ape Atoll Slaying with cannon/titan Icefiends & now slayer in general. Ah yes, "game balance", we have dismissed that claim. -
Awesome quest, is there any way to complete the set for Azzanadra's gift?
