  1. The staff probably already has ideas regarding what the topic of the rank contest will be.. but I thought I'd throw my two cents in anyways. Rank contests in the past have had things to do with RuneScape but everyone could still participate. Caption contests and haikus are just two that I can think of right now. I have to say I think there should only be one contest going on at a time. The idea is for it to be a community-event, not to split the users down the middle. If there is such a strong desire for a RuneScape-based contest, one can be made in which everyone has a chance to participate like I mentioned. Then, the next month, just have one that isn't RuneScape themed. Either way, rank contests aren't tests or quizzes with a required amount of RuneScape play-time. Unless we're talking trivia questions, I cannot think of a situation in which a RuneScape-based contest would require people to have played RuneScape for longer than a couple hours. I don't think that's the problem OT-users are talking about - I think some people would prefer the theme be something else, perhaps something related to current events or politics. I wouldn't say no to a WoW-based one.
  2. You respec/erase your talents by going to a paladin trainer (in Stormwind for example) and hitting "unlearn my talents." It costs 1G the first time and increases each time you do it... so I wouldn't bother unless you have quite a bit of extra money to spare. As far as race goes, the only class that has race-specific spells is the Priest class. So really, race doesn't matter. I'm mentioning this because it is important that you play a race you enjoy looking at.. as you'll be looking at it for quite awhile. World of Warcraft leveling is done by questing ONLY. You can grind and people do that.. but they're missing out on a faster leveling experience and a great game world. Erase EVERYTHING you learned by playing RuneScape and treat WoW as if it were a new game. Quests are visible as yellow exclamation points over NPCs and now they are also on the minimap. Do yellow quests in your quest log first - you shouldn't ever have to do orange/red ones if you collect all of them. As far as zones go, Westfall will be the next zone you'll want to visit. Don't hesitate to visit other zones though. For example, the Dwarf 10-20 zone is Loch Modan while the NE one is Darkshore. It requires some traveling.. but it's good experience and you may prefer one zone over the other.
  3. Don't have much time but @Robert: Go to interface > advanced > and enable the left, right, right 2 action bars, etc. You can have them be shown all the time (with gray outlines) or just have them enabled. They'll be there but will only be shown when you're moving skills to them. For paladins, you'll want to go Retribution to level - don't worry about your heals for now. I would put 5/5 in Benediction to start but either talent works. :) You can always start again with the talents - they aren't set in stone. This is called "respeccing." I'll help you more later with this. What race are you, by the way? @biox: You mean the new quests in Dustwallow or ? I'm curious to see how much easier it is without all the elite quests. And that Strangelthorn Fever quest with the gorillas got a major nerf as well I heard.
  4. Hopefully this can become a monthly/bi-monthly event.
  5. Congratulations everyone!!! :D And don't worry, no matter what anyone says, what tallest has is NOT contagious...
  6. Hmm, well I would be doing mostly PVE methinks. If I did do arenas, it wouldn't be hardcore. I wouldn't want to play a class I don't like just for the sole purpose of going to arenas at 70. I think the paladin is eliminated for sure. I don't care for tanking (which is one of the specs of druids .. seems to be popular). I really like casters (sticking with lock mostly nowadays) and shamans have elemental as an alternative spec if I get bored with resto - priests have shadow too. Bah.. lol I'd mostly be doing 5-mans/heroics and Kara - nothing too serious. How do shamans do in those situations? Which has less downtime when leveling/questing - shadow priest or enh/elem shaman? Arrrgh, indecisive.
  7. Aww dark. Well, you'll be back soon hopefully. ;) Question for everyone: what healing class would you recommend for someone who, at end-game, wants to do things like Kara, 5-mans (norm/heroic), and maybe some PVPing? I've played all four classes (shaman, druid, paladin, and priest) to 30+. I can't say I prefer one over the other.. but I would like to be needed end-game and be able to get in groups easily enough since I don't know anyone on Blackrock (or if I go Alliance, Proudmoore.. or something else). Right now, I think Druid is pretty FOTM - I like the HoT aspect. Just wondering how they fare in 5-mans. Most of the time, I don't care who is a healer so long as one goes in my group.. tend to be hard to find at times. But I've read some posts stating that oftentimes, people prefer to wait for one with an OOC res. That or that the HoTs cannot keep up with the damage in heroics for example.
  8. I agree about the locking thing.. but that's a separate issue I suppose. LadySarafina used to be the main clan admin awhile back - that wasn't too, too long ago though. The Staff aren't purposely ignoring the clan boards, IMO. I just think it is hard to get anything really going with the small group of users who choose to provide input on the matter. I'm not going to make any assumptions here but a lack of user enthusiasm will only create the same thing on the staff side. There needs to be a drive behind both sides in order to get clans to even consider looking back here... and everyone needs to be willing to work on this goal with a small amount of people. What exactly IS the clan admin idea? Does that just involve having one admin that specializes in clan boards? If so, how would this create progress according to you? What I'm trying to find out is what the end goal is if an admin is placed in charge of the clan boards. Are you looking for easier communication between users and the higher-ups? Again, an assumption here, but I do not think there is an admin on the staff list right now that is as actively involved in clans as LadyS was. That isn't a negative statement, it just IS. So I think having an admin "emissary" to discuss things with would be fine... but trying to find a replacement LadyS is just impossible as of now. I am optimistic in that I think the improvements can be made in either situation - those involved just have to alter how they present the material and make sure the requests/discussions are clear-cut and understandable. Still, all of this does not take into account the Clan Improvement Council which does its work in private. We don't want to step on their toes.. but if the ideas/discussions are stagnating, maybe some outside help would be welcome?
  9. New FP probably helps a little though, right? Especially as a class without any +speed before 40. I've always wondered why they didn't add a FP in Rebel Camp before now... Would still be nice for Alliance to have more quests there though, I think. Grom'Gol far outweighs Rebel Camp.
  10. *continues to stir the pot* Eep. :) http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=724014&start=0 This was locked by request of the author... but there is still so much more, as users, to be discussed. There should at least be a thread on this board regarding this issue for staff to post on too. Anyways, Dbz kindly posted that they're working on some things. Anyone else have any optimistic comments about the clan boards that can be worded in say.. a sentence? Keep it simple so the development doesn't get lost amongst complaints or specific ideas.
  11. You don't need to be THAT pessimistic, Gamerr. It is important for people to keep threads like these alive, however, so staff post a response. Part of the reason this board exists is for staff to communicate with users about possible board updates - not just a dumping ground for ideas that never get any comments. Not to stir the pot any... but one can make the assumption (however incorrect it may be) that this issue simply isn't that important to the staff right now. If it was, people would be actively posting here and gathering input. That or providing more details/assurance that things are progressing ahead.
  12. Here's a question for you all - what are your top three favorite capital cities? And why? 1. Silvermoon City - Music, colors, architecture, ambiance. My favorite. 2. Stormwind City - Epic feel, actually like a city. Park district. Keep. 3. Undercity - Always liked the feel of this place. Not small but easy to get around. Apothecaries are funny. Tirisfal Glades/Brill is fun as well. I like the feel of almost all the cities so it's a bit hard to rank them. I don't really care for Orgrimmar though. It has a bit of an epic feel but I don't really care for the Orc architecture that is so prevalent in Outland (need more BE towns IMO). What looks like fun are the upcoming "towns" that are Undead based in Northrend.
  13. Hi Ray! I don't mean to be shadowing you - just enjoy reading and commenting on these threads. The current purpose of the Help/Advice board is to be fast-paced - post your question, get an answer, get out. It's up to the user to ensure it gets answered through bumps or catchy titles. If a F2P question isn't being answered, it may be that the question wasn't worded properly or that the question has been answered many times before. I wouldn't put the blame solely on the fact that there are P2P questions there too. :) As far as General goes, Tripsis pretty much hit the nail on the head. Having two separate boards made things far too ambiguous - where would people discuss Tip.it related things? Or perhaps RuneScape items that were neither F2P nor P2P? In almost all cases, people flocked to the P2P board because it was more active. Having two separate boards became pointless from a staff perspective and, after discussing it with users, it was decided to merge the two boards. That being said, I do think General could be improved somewhat. I'm just not sure how and I don't think the answer lies in splitting up the boards again.
  14. I understand, Ray. It is, however, very naive of you to think that you can avoid spoilers for something big like this when browsing RuneScape-based websites. ;) As hard as I tried when Harry Potter 6 was close to be released, I still used the internet and low and behold, I saw the biggest spoiler of the entire book. The reason there should not be a spoiler subforum is that it would detract from the discussion activity on the main board. Subforums do poorly in that regard, especially when the topic of the subforum is something as minimal as spoilers. Mods will be forced to move what could be popular threads to a dead board and in turn, General will take a hit of activity. We can't take a poll on every issue but I think saying that the majority would prefer not to have information about summoning early is incorrect. If it were true, there would be a lot more complaints about the topics on the General board. Most of the spoiler topics contain information that was officially released by Jagex in the first place. There is a lot of discussion value in these big updates and by forcing people to not talk about them because some people do not want to read it is unfair (again, especially when Jagex has already released spoilers of its own).
  15. Mass spam does not mean four threads out of thirty. This sort of falls into the category of users suggesting "concentrated" topics/forums for storage of threads they are not interested in. I'm not meaning this in a negative way but it is important to understand that every specific type of thread does not need its own spot. In fact, Tip.it forum's history proves that most topics do better when standing alone rather than being piled in a sticky. Especially in this case, I would rather the outfit threads stay on their own.
  16. Sorry but I really would not like to see this implemented. Tip.it does not need any more specific, restrictive rules for its users (on this type of thing, anyway) and adding more subforums for the purpose of organization is just a "no." Please do not take offense on this, Ray, but it is very easy for users to suggest things like this - if a topic isn't what they like to read, they think it should have its own subforum. The Tip.it staff have sometimes acted on these ideas and most of them have been reversed due to an overall negative effect on the forums. Now, this idea may not be exactly the same as it has to do with spoilers. I do think it would be nice for people to maybe tag their thread with
  17. Borne Ultimatum (I enjoyed it) Mame (Lucille Ball, Bea Arthur) Haven't seen any 'new' movies lately. Cloverfield looks interesting though - wonder what the monster is...
  18. Armory crashes my Firefox on my PC - I try it on Safari, it doesn't crash, but it doesn't load either. I think the Winter Veil festivities are some of the best in the game - just the atmosphere around the world is great. Nothing beats Stormwind/Ironforge though. Silvermoon is OK with Christmas trees up.. but I miss the hustle and bustle of IF on a busy server when Christmas presents have just been put under the tree. Meanwhile, I'm sitting in Alterac waiting to gank The Abominable Greench to complete this ridiculous quest..
  19. Let's keep this simple. Please. People jumping all over the idea of giving random users moderator powers makes discussions like these stagnate and the Staff will lose interest. In one sentence, describe your UNIQUE, original idea that will bring clan traffic to the Tip.it forums. From what I've seen so far, the idea is to give clan leaders a private board to discuss things together - yes or no? The idea about who will moderate it is something for the Staff to decide. There shouldn't be any need for moderation - let them figure out things themselves. Unless people post a keylogger in there, leave them alone. So... a private board catering to clan leaders. Anything else?
  20. Still having Armory freezing troubles sometimes... no idea why. Been reading some complaints on the WoW Forums about it too - not sure why they haven't been fixed yet. Armory itself is just so bloated. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... &n=Thellis Current character. Just hit 66 last night after running Mana-Tombs.
  21. Yeah.. try out both factions and multiple races. There is a lot of gameplay to be experienced, especially if you want to switch factions. As far as low level greens though, you can try to sell them on the AH if you'd like. Just do a search beforehand and undercut the lowest price by a silver or two. My first character, I vendored all greens and all extra linen - that was a mistake. Once you learn how to manage the AH, undercut people slightly, and stop automatically vendoring everything, you'll make some money.
  22. Lighting Albosky's hair on fire usually speeds things up by 50% or more.
  23. I'm not going to assume I know even .1% of what is going on in the background regarding the Clan boards.. but I agree with some points that have been mentioned here. Clan support on Tip.it needs to be massively overhauled and new, unique features need to be added. Rules need to be adjusted to suit the clan environment (what this entails, I'll leave for someone else to decide). The changes that are made need to be drastic and eye-catching - the actual details of the changes made need to be broadcasted on the main page (and the forums), especially the part about relaxed rules and improved staff support. People need to KNOW what has been done and what the goals of the new clan section are. Any mistakes in the past need to be acknowledged in brief and it needs to be emphasized that Tip.it is once again opening its doors to the clan world. For any of this to happen, there needs to be some improvement in communication. Again, I'm totally in the dark about what the CIC is doing. I'm not assuming they are not doing work nor am I saying that what they have in store isn't great or wonderful. What I AM saying is in order to implement these changes properly and to ensure that they actually work, the discussion about these changes needs to be brief and swift. Maybe it is true that everyone is trying to please one another. Just because there is one disagreement does not mean that the discussion needs to stagnate or that the idea needs to be thrown out. "They" need to keep things moving and not let any idea or discussion die out. Perhaps a deadline would help.. but I think it would be best if an admin/other staff member could be totally devoted to the project and make sure things keep moving along. What it boils down to is this: major clans are settled and comfortable where they are. Tip.it needs to do something (in a speedy manner) if they want to get clans to even consider looking here again. This "something" needs to be eye-catching, interesting, and unique to Tip.it. I do not think it wise to rely on one single board or group creation to attempt to attract people back in. They need to be FORCED to reconsider Tip.it as an option because of feature X, Y, or Z. That being said, the entire content of this thread does rely on two important factors: - That Tip.it actually wants to rebuild its clan base. The clan boards at their peak brought a lot of activity.. but also a lot of problems. Something to consider. - Clans are willing to look at Tip.it again, consider "moving," AND that the wilderness changes do not completely redesign the current clan system in place. I haven't kept up or participated in discussions regarding these new changes... but it would probably be best to take into account these recent wilderness adjustments in the thinking behind the new clan scene here. Sorry if I stepped on any staff member's toes with this post!
  24. Any news on this? I actually just installed KOTOR I last night - starting to play that again once and awhile. Was reading about the KOTOR MMO on the wow boards and someone mentioned this, which I totally forgot and found hilarious: "Hey, there's someone in this locker!" -1. What are you doing in here? -2. Do you need help getting out? -3. What planet is this? -4. [Action] Stick lightsaber into locker." ROFL
