First of all hard drives are not called memory, they are called storage. People may think when you say memory you mean ram and not a new hard drive. Well first you need to know what type of interface you have to hook your hard drive up to, it's either SATA or PATA (mostly called IDE). I almost certan it's IDE because your old hard drive is less than 40GBs. About freezing your hard drive. I have heard mixed things about this from many other techs. My IT teacher has said he did this and successfully recovered all of the data off a hard drive. On the other hand I have heard that this is not recommended because it could screw up the hard drive more or it just doesn't work from numerous people. If you do decide to try it, let me know how it works out. If you do want to ship it off to a drive recovery place, you need to decide how much that data is worth to you. These data recovery places can charge hundreds of dollars.

Well it could be a corrupt codec if it's freezing on the .avi and if the .mpg is only playing audio, well that sounds like you don't have the codec installed. You can download a codec pack from here to reinstall/install. Download the standard one.

Well never listen to that teacher again. The rom is usually 2MB big and I have never seen one over 5MB and your operating system is gigabytes (depending on the version).

You have no idea what your talking about do you? The only rom you could possibly be talking about is on the motherboard that holds the bios and that would have nothing to do with this problem. Is coD4 multiplayer really that good? I just beat the single player. It was about as long as COD2 single player but was a lot better. It had a mix of everything, sniping (a whole level where you need to be stealthy and sneak past tons of troops), huge battles like in COD2, and some strategy mixed in. I started the multilayer right after that and it's amazing. The best multiplayer I have played in years. The perks and ranks make it even better. Even with the perks that people have over others, cod4 is still balanced between everybody. I like this game a lot more than the Crysis demo so far. It's a fast paced game which is more my style.

Well your going to need a router to have both devices using the internet at once. You can probably get just a wired router if you don't need the wireless part.

From my basic knowledge of wireless, this is the best answer I can give you. When your wireless decreases speed it extends it's range, hence having 24mbs you can get a steadier connection than 54mbs if your across the house. The router is suppose to automatically adjust this for you and base it how far you are away from it. You can set it to always broadcast at 54mbs or whatever you want in the router's config. To get to the router's config type in "192.168.1.1" and the settings should be under wireless, all routers are different so you will have to find it from here.

Well there is no way you can play on high with your graphics card. I'm surprised you can play on medium with 1GB of ram. The demo of crysis does not support dual gpu's (SLI) so buying another 7900gt will not have an impact. I don't know if the full game will, I'll be surprised if it doesn't, because it should. Wait till the full game is released before deciding (nov 11).

Well most people like Firefox because of the better security and the it can be heavily customized. You can pretty much add anything you want to it if you can find an extension for it. You can also change the look with different themes. Some also argue that Firefox is faster than IE7, but I don't see a difference between any browser. If you do decide to try Firefox, do not uninstall IE7, some pages may only be coded for Internet Explorer and will not display property in Firefox.

The update that updates itself with having automatic updates off is true but you only got half of the story (what a surprise). Microsoft has stated that this update was for Windows/Microsoft update itself, not for the operating system. Without this update you would not be able to get new updates if you do decide to turn it back on in the future. I don't know too much about Norton but it's probably not dependent on Norton but enables automatic updates because it protects your computer and is thinking a virus is turning it off. I'm sure there is a setting deep inside the settings to fix this.

That's the whole thing though. A lot of the good games on Ps3 can also be found on the 360. As for Microsoft trying to take the Ps3's exclusives, even though I dont like Microsoft..they're not trying to take exclusives. The 360 is easier to develop for, so the developers are making the games for the 360 also. I don't trust microsoft. I think that even MGS4 won't remain exclusive to the PS3. Well it depends, if your on Vista Home Basic then it will be fine for everyday use and some light gaming. If your on Vista Home Premium then 1GB of ram is pretty much for office and internet use only. You can try and stay with 1GB since Fifa is not too demanding and then if you can't play it then you can add some more ram.

That maybe normal that 3 *'s come up for every character input as a security measure, just keep typing as you normally would and try to log in. Your WEP password would be in your router's settings page (which is what you are trying to access currently, not your ISP's). If you do not know what the user name and password are for the router you will need to reset it, theres usually a little button in the back that you hold in with a pen to do so. This will reset all your settings so you would have to set everything up again, including your wireless security. I would also recommend changing your password from the default config because it's very dangerous to keep it that.

I think you're right about the activation code thingy, but where do I find the number used to call Microsoft? They will give you the number when you are forced to activate by phone. If you found the Gateway recovery disk then you probably don't have the XP disk. You getting the original disk may be a problem. I don't know too much about this so your going to need somebody else to help you from here. I could point you where to download one and burn it to a cd, but you didn't hear that from me. No, I didn't. But anyways..I want it to be genuine. Will it be possible to download it, burn it to a CD, and then make it genuine by getting an activation code from Microsoft? Yes if you download an original unmodified copy, often called "untouched". Most of the time they come pre-cracked, which you don't want if you already own a legit copy.
