  1. thank god for that. I was scared just reading the post, let alone being you and experiencing that.
  2. take it somewhere or send it back (for a good price) to get the screen replaced or use it as a flash drive as said or destroy it more and bin it

because the force dragging the ant to the earth is so much greater than the force dragging it to you. if you go setup in a bunjee thing or something so you were suspended say 10cm above the ant, the ant would no longer be under 1 g-force, it would be under like 0.999999999999999999 g-force or something. so basically you would be taking the slightest little bit of weight of the ants legs, so it might be able to walk for an extra half a second in its lifetime before its legs wear out. if however the earth suddenly disappeared for some strange reason (nothing happened, it just disappeared into nowhere), and you and the ant were the only remaining things, then the ant would start orbiting you or be sucked to you. the reason they cant orbit you is because there is a gravitational force acting on them that is an unimaginable amount more strong than yours, so yours basically does nothing (it does do something, but such a small amount). Its kind of the same as how the earth would move to you the slightest bit every time you jump in the air. If every human and jumping animal on earth all went to one side of the earth and started jumping, the earth would move, but so little we would never be able to tell it did.

go for it. its alot of knowledge we have to acquire eventually if we want to continue to get smarter, why not work it out now? and if it does start black holes, i seriously wont care. well i probably will a bit, but at least ill know my life is going to end very soon so i can have fun. there are worse ways to die. now you have got me thinking what i would do if suddenly the news came on and said "you will all be dead in 16 minutes, go have some fun!"
  5. go for the external hard drive. It doesn't have to be the latest most expensive best looking thing in the world, a good quality one of whatever size would do. Also saying you dont need backups is just the stupidest thing ive ever heard. no matter how "man" you are you are it doesn't mean you going to stop your hard drive dieing with your big "manly" powers.
  6. I had a school teacher with your surname over here in Australia i think, i didn't get taught by him (well unless he filled in maybe) but i seem to remember him being at my school. EDIT: I share my last name with a TV actor from here in Australia who recently committed suicide that played a person in a popular medical drama. My first name in real life also happens to be the first name of the person he played in the medical drama (except it was abbreviated in the tv show) Now lets see what Aussie cant guess my name
  7. as long as the baby is not too far developed there's no problem in my opinion.

agreed. just as i said before every time i jump up in the air the earth would move towards me at such a incredibly tiny rate that it will probably never be able to be measured before i am forced back to the ground by our earths much larger mass. In other words, one lot of mass that has accumulated in the big crunch may be at the complete other side of the universe to another big lot of mass. It may take a trillion billion million years for the very tiny bit of gravity that would be working on both the mass's to bring them together to actual get to the point where they are together, but it would eventually happen.
  10. judging by how much im finding on google, and this being the first ive heard of it, i dought it. but if its true its a tragic loss (not that i really care, but it still is)
  11. thrash-boy replied to baalboy5's topic in Off-Topic
As far as i've been told, they dont not produce light, they just have such a strong gravitational force that they suck in any light near them and hold it there so light cant reflect off them into our eyes and that's why they are black. Back to gravity, i was once told that every time you jump off the ground, the entire earth moves toward you by the smallest unmeasurable amount. Maybe if we got every human over one half of the earth and made them jump at exactly the same time we could move the earth a hundred thousandth of a millimeter or something \

  14. not exactly a weird experience by my half birthday is on the 11th of September (world trade center disaster). Only 6 days and im 16.5 years old
  15. the first quote i have ever found interesting enough to go in my Sig, and no one has beat me to. \ on topic: Go and find something else to do. on the rare ocasions i cant use my computer when i want (other people using it etc) i later think how UN important using the computer was, and how i wouldn't have achieved much more (if any) if i was using it
  16. exactly what i think. The human race grows up to, just like everything that is alive
  17. true. Alot of it is predictions and predicting things (especially things like how good computer will be in 40 years) can be very difficult. Who would have predicted 100 years ago that we would have the kind of technology we have today?

Not sure if this has been posted before. anyway, Today i saw a vid on youtube at school which i found really interesting. heres a link: Some points that really interested me: -China will soon be the #1 English speaking country in the world (yes, china. Thye will have more people that can speak english than any other country) -It is estimated an average person will have 10 to 14 diffrent jobs by there 38'th birthday. -It took radio 38 years to reach an audience of 50 million, tv 13 years, and the internet just 4. -Internet connected devices in: 1984 = 1000; 1992 = 1,000,000; 2006 = 600,000,000; -The number of text messages sent and received today exceeds the population of the planet -The amount of technical information is doubling every 2 years currently, by 2010 its predicted to double every 72 hours. -Fiber optics has recently been tested to push 10 trillion bits/sec down a line. that is 1900 cd's or 150 million phone calls in 1 second -in 2013 its predicted a super computer will be created that is more powerful than the human brain -in 2049 a computer will be available for $1000 that has more computing power then the entire human race -(i looked at the sources to find this one) in 2059 it will cost 1 cent for enough computing power to be more than the entire human race Now im guessing everyone's smart enough to work out that this info is more than likely outdated to some extent, and the predictions are probably not correct (they are only predictions), so im not going to go out and save up a $1000 to buy a computer more powerful than the human race for my 57th birthday. I think its scary myself. what does everyone else think? --- EDIT: Just so no one can complain about me posting a youtube link out of the sticky: I don't know about you, but i think i have a fairly good post backing this one up.
  19. ok ran virus scan. no viruses (that it found) just 2 "tracking cookies". Didn't bother with bios update since i had like version .29 and the only version for my board i could find was .27 (i tryed looking at the manufactures website, and they only had .27). I remember updating this about a year ago anyway. When i booted up today and logged in my computer froze like it does and started beeping. the start menu would not load and it done a couple of cycle of beeps (probably about 10 beeps per try) before it eventually did load. Im thinking its maybe a issue with my memory so im gunna try run memtest86 Also im disabling the windows search index feature that i got from windows update a few days ago because it is really anoying and i dont want it. dont think its related to my problems though
  20. ran disc check (start > run > "cmd" > chkdsk /r > *restart computer* > *wait*). When i first done it it got everything done fine, upto 32% in either the 2nd or 3rd stage (2nd im fairly sure. i think it was verifying indexes) when it made a few beeps and locked up. Restarted PC and it made quite a few beeps (i mean probably more then 10. probebly half a second in duration each and about a second apart). it finally did boot though. Disc check ran and completed with no problems. At the end though it had to: "Repairing USN Journal file record segment" I looked around google a bit and a few sites said i can disable the USN journal (even though it will probably not be the cause of my problem?). If it is safe to disable it, how do i do so, and could it be possibly causing my problem (would it be worth trying)? Thanks for the link. That was the first time i had ever used windbg. I followed the link's instructions and tryed again. here is everything it said: [hide=WinDBG output]******************************************************************************* * * * Bugcheck Analysis * * * ******************************************************************************* KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR (77) The requested page of kernel data could not be read in. 21. Ok looking at google it is a error reading data from the paging file on the hard drive into the ram, or the master boot record is infected with a virus. :wall: According the the KB article here the I/O status code (0x0000185) means: "0xC0000185, or STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR: improper termination or defective cabling of SCSI-based devices, or two devices attempting to use the same IRQ." Ill go and try and run a chkdsk and be back with the results
  22. Ok well i started the virus scan in safe mode. it was going for a while and i came back and found a BSOD The error was a KERNAL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR I found the line with all the codes and it was this: ***STOP: 0x00000077 (0xC0000185, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x01236000) I done some googling to open the mini dump file created. I opened it with WinDBG (which i had to download) and looked through all the stuff it said. i found a line that said: Unable to load image ntoskrnl[Caution: Executable File], Win32 error 0n2 as well as a block of lines that say: KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR (77) The requested page of kernel data could not be read in. Caused by bad block in paging file or disk controller error. In the case when the first arguments is 0 or 1, the stack signature in the kernel stack was not found. Again, bad hardware. Also, lag has not reduced apon startup and it still beeps every now and then (when it lags)
  23. ok well recently (within the last month) my pc (well, my family pc) has became gradually more Laggy. About 2 weeks ago i started getting boot errors (one was Disk read error - press Ctrl+Alt+Del to retry) as well as other errors related to my BIOS. Somehow PXE became enabled so every now and then the pc would try and boot from a server and fail (which was fixed thanks to the help of these forums), and at the same time (i assume, not quite sure) the floppy drive controller got enabled in the BIOS even though the pc doesn't have a floppy (which was also fixed thanks to these forums). I assumed maybe something weird happened and it re-enabled or my brother or someone else in the house decided to investigate what pressing F8 (i think) on start up does and had a play around. About 3 days ago windows started taking ages to boot from the XP loading logo. Yesterday when i booted up (this also happened once about 2 weeks ago, and found a couple of errors and fixed them apparently) windows started running a chkdsk (check disk i assume). I skipped it because i was in a rush. As long as starting to take ages to boot when it finally does boot (you get to the logon screen) you cant scroll over or click on the names for the first 5 or 10 seconds (you can but they don't highlight when scrolled over and don't select ready to enter the password when clicked). I've never seen this before. Also occasionally (im fairly sure) it will make a quick beep sound sometime while it is lagging (from the actual pc case, not the speakers). When you finally logon there is really bad boot lag for the first 15 seconds (and it still laggy for the next couple of minutes), by really bad i mean windows seems to be running at about 3 fps and clicking the start menu may as well mean go and get a coffee. This is only for the first 15 seconds or so, and it has never been that bad. It also sometimes makes a beep sound the same as described above when logging on. Here are my specs (the pc is about 3 years old i think, a bit less maybe): Win XP Media center edition 2005 Intel P4 630 3.0GHZ processor 2GB DDR ram (it was 512mb, i upgraded it 6 months ago) 160gb HDD 7200rpm (ill open the case and check brand if anyone needs to know, im not sure what it is) ATI Radeon X300SE graphics card (128mb) Integrated Intel High Definition 5.1 sound Here is a HijackThis log (taken just minutes ago just after i logged on and experienced the beeps and extreme lag for a few seconds): [hide=Hijackthis Log]Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 4:24:12 PM, on 3/09/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16705) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\services[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService[Caution: Executable File] C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Intel\IDU\awServ[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\Explorer[Caution: Executable File] C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgrsx[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cmdagent[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\slserv[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Toshiba\Bluetooth Toshiba Stack\TosBtSrv[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Virtual CD v4 SDK\system\vcssecs[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\ALCWZRD[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas[Caution: Executable File] C:\apps\ABoard\ABoard[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32[Caution: Executable File] C:\apps\ABoard\AOSD[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Intel\IDU\iptray[Caution: Executable File] C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgemc[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Intel\IDU\awtray[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cfp[Caution: Executable File] C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgtray[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin\jusched[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\WhatPulse\WhatPulse[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin\jucheck[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox[Caution: Executable File] C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchProtocolHost[Caution: Executable File] C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis[Caution: Executable File] R1 - that video is amazing, even though I'm struggling to understand anything above the 4th dimension. I kind of worked out that each dimension is a line between 2 points (which are the previous dimension), and then a line from that line to another point (the previous dimension) to create the next dimension. the cycle then starts again, 2 points (the previous dimension) with a line between them. its really hard to explain and that video does an amazing job of it.
