  1. I am from: Scotland I live in: England Other comments: Scotland aren't in the world cup adn neither are trinidad and tobago anymore so i currently support: England's next opponents \
  2. Of course, there are plenty of people suggesting that it wasn't even his idea. This may or may not be the case, the fact is it is quite easy to be caught up in the novels and as such i dont find it that hard to fathom that they have been so wildly successful. As far as I'm aware Brown repackaged an already well known and formatted idea, adding as you say a Hollywood style narrative. Which like you say is not superbly written. I think the major attractions of the books lie in the following areas: 1) The controversy 2) The mix of fact and fantasy. real organisations such as the Illuminati and real history like that of the 'Hassassin' along with the fact that all of the art pieces featured are traceable and if you see them like Brown does, can be easily interpreted. 3) Finally the blood and guts factor, there's no getting away from it, people like this sort of media. It's hardly that surprising he has been so successful
  3. Perhaps, but the power of small asteroids is nevertheless great. An asteroid the size of a normal house's garage has the power to destroy a city if it makes an impact in the correct way.
  4. *cringe* mm i remember when you had like 10 posts. i originally joined like 2 + years ago
  5. Im not sure we can definitively say that is the case and even if it is, and we do think differently then we must have started at one point. It's not a given i'll admit but its very likely. And we have had the same time as apes to evolve and though we did so in a different biological direction i dont think we can assume that animals of similar intelligence as ourselves (such as dolphins and gorillas) are not capable of the same thought processes as ourselves.
  6. Humans may be successful and statistically intelligent but as people have said, in terms of evolution we will be gone in the blink of an eye. For all our intelligence we dont have the presence of mind needed to exist. We will run out of fuel soon, and we wont have an alternative. Likewise it has already been pointed out that humans are the only species to actively kill each other in massive numbers and this has been countered by the argument that animals can't think. Essentially this is true but the only thing that sets us apart is our ability to shape our surroundings to our own means and this is basically due to our intelligence. Bearing in mind the fact that humans are the only creatures to massacre one another, and the only ones to destroy the earth despite knowing they are doing it I dont think humans are even close to what we should be in the branch of intelligence. Several claims have been made which i would like to point out and answer to: Someone said we are the most successful because if we wanted to we could wipe out all the animals. First, thats not true, insects are animals, whos going to shoot 70 billion insects? Also, ever though of what would happen if all the animals decided they had had enough of humans? we would have no chance. What it really comes down to is that humans are essentialy living beyond our means. Without our technology there is no way we could survive now, we haven't got the natural instincts we once did.
  7. whether or not the mayan calculation is real, or nostradamus was correct in predicting it to be in about 3000 years from now or whatever, there is absolutely nothing we could do about it. in my opinion humans as a species will be lucky to ride out the next two centuries. Similarly, if we take a look at certain aspects of the world at the moment, such as the volcano under yellowstone, or the imminent collapse of the gulf stream which will bring about a new ice age it seems fairly obvious to me that we, as a species are pretty screwed. 8. I'm not even surprised. George Bush is the man leading the nation who produces the most greenhouse gas yet he doesn't believe global warming is even happening. I think this will be the case next year aswell, perhaps to a lesser extent, but either way the world is getting hotter.
  9. I took one which wasn't internet based or TV based. It had little cards and stuff. Time limit: 45 minutes I took: about 20 my score: as a 15 year old, 57 out of 60 equals an IQ of like 149-152
  10. Scotland almost ftw i think brazil are likely to win but i wouldn't rule out germany or england. England are the strongest they have been for along time and Germany are consistently strong adn this time have a home crowd
  11. OK, why are you annoyed at this? why should you get it and not him. Though neither of you deserved it  not happened to me often... one guy died while i was at barrows. he lost obby set, rune set and mystic. I added him and returned it. I was happy, i got more satisfaction from hearing how pleased he was and how nice he thought i was than i would possibly have done through keeping the stuff. besides he gave me the rune anyway as a thank you
  12. i dont see many other red serpents, or many other serpents, but there are hundred of "red" somethings, and that gets a bit annoying
  13. gratz to both 8) nice that you got one after your attempts and nice for trojann trojann and leesters ftw
  14. very mature. im pretty impartial to this, i think it will be a close fight but i expect DS will come out on top. I'm rooting for DI though
  15. i like the names 'Hi Nerds' 'Enslaved Egg' and 'Tom'
  16. my guess is that the loswest whips will go is 1.2 perhaps even a mill which, on the whole saddens me, i bought my first one for 9.8 mill and now i could almost get 4 for that price. I remember when i went to castlewars along time ago and there was only one person in the entire game with a whip and it had cost him over 20 mill. I dont care that the whip is much more affordable. It only bothers me that a whip is no longer anything like a status symbol, much like the dragon chain (which admittedly is still very expensive i know) however the chain alone used to cost more than the whole set does now. The same is true of all the dragon armours. Yet...such is the nature of the rs economy..supply outweighs demand.
  17. Im in almost all of tommys pics (h) im either the noob in ghostly, or the only zammy against maver and some others well it is great fun :D
  18. nice article, but i thought that at one point back in 2004 around november kind of time i would guess, white party hats were selling for more than blues. I'm probably wrong but i am sure this was the case as at the time i remember white being the most expensive at 12 mill. anyways yeah nice article, very interesting and it must have taken alot of work :)
  19.  Lashing out at sensitice issues, check Responsibilty level, Lacking These people are using the very rights they are protesting against: Without freedom of speech he would be hospitalised if not dead, it is solely due to the freedom of speech granted to him that he can protest without reporcussions
  20. what a ludicrous comment, you cannot possibly say that the actions of these people in any way denotes the feelings or actions of the religious following as a whole. Neither can you say that a God of any type is responsible for these peoples actions, as has previously been said, islam is generally a peaceful religion. Way to flame large percentage of the worlds population.
  21. Yes there is a legitamate reason to get worked up about this BUT its a massive over reaction. I'll take the riots in London as an example, people were holding signs saying things like "Freedom of Speech go to Hell". Right, thats ludicrous they were exercising precisely that right by protesting, next time perhaps the police should take the words of the protestors as a self evident truth? Maybe the police should forcabley remove their freedom of speech seeing as they are willing to use it in such a dangerous way. It is a two way system, the protestors don't want cartoonists to have freedom of speech so why should they get it? Similarly there were placards saying "Europe is the cancer, Islam the answer", so these people are more than happy to live in a Western country with a National Health Service, Free Education System, Freedom of Speech etc yet complain about the laws of the country? They could leave the "cancerous" Europe.
  22. hmm wasn't esperanto originally designed to become the universal language on the planet? hence the combination of aspects from many existing languages
