Selling online items and eBay
Maybe... but if they thought they would get $100 million more profit, do you *really* think they would turn their noses up at that kind of money? Well that's because you have a negative idea of RMT. If a game were built up from the design itself to include RMT, then IMHO it wouldn't necessarily be bad at all. Such a game wouldn't require you to spend rl cash, it would just give you the option to do so. Time vs money, in other words. Yes and it works. Some games have no susbcriptions at all (they are free to play) but have only an item shop for buying extras like changing your character's eyes to red, changing hairstyles, weilding a funny "poo on a stick" weapon, etc. I kid you not, people actually pay rl cash for the poo. I wouldn't play it myself but it's very interesting. To think that we used to laugh at the people who spent rl money on rares! To explain though I was speaking in general, of the whole MMORPG scene and of future trends. For Runescape specifically, I think RMT does hurt the community because of the gold farms. I personally am hurt by them as when I try to woodcut, I always run into numerous level 3 chars who have the default clothing, all woodcutting away. *sigh* It's not fair for a legit players like myself and most of Rs to have to share trees with farmers who don't even play the game, they are just bots or afkers controlling many chars. I myself am retired but I have not sold anything off my char as I don't approve of RMT for Runescape. RMT in itself is ok with me if it is integrated in the game. It gives devs a good alternative to subscription... those who want to spend rl cash can in this way "sponsor" those who just want to play without spending cash.

Official : RS, 2nd Biggest MMPORG In World
Too expensive for me, I don't have that much time to play anymore but I did in my younger days. If it had come out when I was 18, I'd have grabbed a WoW cd for sure. Exactly. RS in way is good for women because they tend to be more casual players so free games (or partially free) are better, plus RS is easy. Just make a game which is easy for casual players, partially free, put in more social interaction in the game (lots of hanging out, parties, events, good chat and guild system, skills, etc) and you are home free. That's what women want, not chain mail bikinis.

RSC had all the Golden names? Favorite rs names?
Lightning also had a noob, Fury. Nice name, I always wanted it. I can't remember the name of Ladykilljoy's noob killer even though I've seen it many, many times.

They don't need to wish, they made over 310 million $$$ and are likely to generate more in the future. 310million / year / 50 million players = $6 / player / year. Doesn't sound like they have 50 million paying players eh? So yes they can wish whatever they want - but they don't got 50 million subscribing players. True, true. But look at the figures! 310 million is 310 million regardless of the terminology of "subscribers" versus "players." 50 millions subscribers would be an impossible number, anyway. Probably all the subscribers in the world would have to unite in one game for it to have 50 million subscribers but yes I concede the point. *shivers at the thought* We could speculate though? ;) I personally think WoW would be at the top anyway for revenue at least until the next big MMORPG craze. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be a partially free one that is good for women to play.

Why is "safing" bad?
I have never heard the term "safing" in the wilderness. This must only be for lower levels in f2p. P2p is too unsafe, even if you do eat whenever you want to since specials and such can KO you. Not to mention multi... ouch 50 people killed me in 2 seconds. So true. Actually, a lot of things which were perfectly acceptable in RS1 are completely taboo in RS2. When I returned to playing RS and switched over to RS2 it was a huge shock and even now I still do not accept many things for real. I just follow them to be able to play with the other pkers. Pilejumping, for example, was not a thing to whine about in RS1. If a pker killed someone I was pking with then I sure as hell would pj them. It would have been considered wussy not to, as if I were scared of the big bad pker who just killed my friend in front of me. Things like luring, crashing wars, etc., they were all part and parcel of being in the wildy. I actually do understand the reasoning behind some of the rules nowadays but I am a product of the old wilderness - you know, the one where it was a no rules, no holds barred, a *real* wilderness.

Tip.It Times Presents: Growing Pains
That artile is way off based. RS has proven that dumbing down and makiing everything 200% easier will increase the subscriber base. Rs in the old days had only a fraction of the subscribers it has now.

Game developers don't like RMT because they don't profit from it. While it's hard to get real figures, it's pretty much agreed that RMT generates a huge amount of profit. Game developers would have to be crazy not to drool at the thought of selling their little yellow pixel gold pieces for rl $$$$ - oh wait Second Life is already build around RMT. ;) So is Project Entorpia (sp?) but that is a bit shady. I have been expecting RMT to be built into games for some time now, it's really the only way to control things. I put myself in the game developers' shoes and instead of thinking "how do I stop RMT?" I think it's more reasonable to wonder "how do I control RMT so that it doesn't hurt the game and I make tonnes of $$$?" I fearless predict that games in the future will have RMT built into it, the opposite is just too illogical.

They don't need to wish, they made over 310 million $$$ and are likely to generate more in the future. (from wikipedia) Pfft, why don't they just count the total revenue earned by each MMORPG? Then we would see the real figures that mean something wshen you compare games. RS may have a lot of players but the susbcription cost is 1/3 of other games... so games with 1/3 the number of subscribers probably earn as much (gross).

So true. No way, that article must be erroneous. Just *one* game (Maplestory) has over 50 million players. 50 million!

Am I too old to play RS?
She could be afraid you are pursuing hot 15 yr old girls online. Or that 16 yr old boys pretending to be girls online could hit on you for free stuff. Sorry, I don't mean you are but that is what I am getting from what she said. Playing a game at your age could be called "nerdy" by those who don't play but I really don't think it would be called "creepy" unless she means "sexual offender"-type creepy. Women have a different experience when playing RS than men. She probably had "creepy" losers asking for cyber, I always get that. :wall: I actually do not reccomend RS to people I know irl because of that.

any old players still around?
Meili is a girl . Gamerr knows I'm a girl what that meant: Meili, the guy you were talking about was her (meaning Blick's) brother.

"buyable" skills
I have more than 125 mil because I was online when the holiday items were dropped. :-w It doesn't really take that much effort sometimes. That's pretty fast to get from 70-99.

What do YOU think the Easter event will be?(UPDATED)
I hope it will be bunny top and skirt with bunny tail.

"buyable" skills
So true. Getting mass amounts of higher level herbs is almost impossible because even if you have a lot of gp people only have small amounts to sell compared to the amount that you need.

Why has pest control ruined Runescape?
- Does anyone actually care about 99 firemaking?
yeah, skill capes have really pushed the idea of 99 to a new level... when the update occured, a record of people started getting 99's in skills, especially fletch, cooking and fm... me personally, even if the cape wasnt there, id go for 99 fishing! all the buyable skills are just slowly loosing admiration... Thank you, I am glad other people see it that way. Again, let me just repeat that if people get 99 because they like firemaking, that is ok for me. I just think getting 99 simply for the skill cape or emote is silly considering fm isn't that useful. It's sad that skill cape actually made some skills less respectable since everyone suddenly started trying to get 99s of even the skills they don't enjoy.- Where are they now????
Thanks. :) Yes I have quite a few of people who were well-known (or moderately well-known) among the fighters but are forgotten now.- Autoer In METAL DRAGONS?!?!
TKS did not auto. And you are proud of this because? But if you wanted to or got bored you would auto?- Where are they now????
He? I was under the impression that blue was a female. Wife beater still plays, I see his char online but we no longer talk.- Does anyone actually care about 99 firemaking?
Personally I only saw the point of firemaking when it was a completely useless skill. Way back in Rs1 all you could light were normal logs so the skill was basically unbuyable. The players who trained it, only did it for fun or to be different which IMHo made it more cool. Now its pretty much buyable which destroys the coolness factor AND it is still useless. However if someone levels it because he enjoys firemaking, then more power to him. What's lame is buying a ton of expensive logs just to easily get a skill cape.- The Black Hole-Pics wanted!
This site made me lol irl. The music + the story is priceless. I am glad you saw the humour of it. I have this site bookmarked. :) That just shows how old it is, the old RS showed your fps. I posted one, ah please actually read the thread before posting.- halp I'm noob! rate my bank, 36 rares
Nope, sorry. I am a bad, greedy person who wants to keep her rares.- -The Legends of Runescape-
