I heard a great one on TV yesterday, that had me laughing for a while. I love it: "An enlightened mind won't do you any good in a dark alley." -- Frieda Van Wijck, Belgian journalist. I'm also a sucker for Oscar Wilde quotes. "I think that God in creating Man somewhat overestimated his ability." "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes." "The strength of women comes from the fact that psychology cannot explain us. Men can be analysed, women ... merely adored."

I leveled to ___ 'nice mine is __' discussion
Sumpta replied to baalboy5's topic in General Discussion
A while back, I answered with impossible figures. For example, someone would ask my slayer level while killing jellies and I'd answer: 14. Alas, they never got the point and the ensuing argument was not worth it. After that, I started saying "look it up in the high scores", but then i'd get "wut? liar, there r no hiscores" and idiocy like that. Now, I either ignore them (to get replies like: "stuck up noob") or just give them the number and go through the whole "nice, mine is ..." etc. Yeah. Aren't MMORPG's fun? What wouldn't I give for a single player runescape... -
Guh, this really is your typical juvenile "I dare to say controversial stuff!!! Look at meeeee!" statement. The swastika is an age old symbol, yes. Typical of symbols is that values are attached to them. In our day and age, the swastika has the taint of nazism, whether we like it or not, regardless of the other meanings it holds in other cultures. As such, the swastika is a powerful symbol of racism, brutality, extreme nationalism and up to a certain degree even anti-intellectualism. No, it does not stand for the more redeeming qualities of nazism. That's just the way with symbols, they rarely leave space for the shades. You know, in Belgium, even the Hitler salute is illegal. You can be prosecuted for a Sieg Heil in a public space. Yes, this may go against the principle of freedom of speech. But respect for the individual > freedom of speech. I get so sick and tired of people saying what they will and then wave about with "freedom of speech!! freedom of speech!"

If I rate according to my favourites, for personal reasons rather than the logical-rational, it would be... 1. Earth - its power lies in the ability to create life. The scent of earth is so powerful. 2. Fire - the awesome destroyer... it must be the most impressive of the elements. I'm drawn to the consuming nature of this element. 3. Water - I can appreciate the way water moves onward all the time, but it's alien to my own nature, I prefer the stillness of earth. It has no scent and that disturbs me a bit as well. 4. Air - too fleeting for me, too much above my head :D. Plus, I have hayfever, so I view air as something of an enemy.

Finally someone who knows what he's talking about instead of using the threadbare and canonised knowledge of Hitler. If you want a look into evil, learn about the SS. Himmler was quite a nasty piece of work. In the 1930's, Hitler had more than one thug gang at his hand. Himmler brutally slaughtered the SS' main competitor, the SA, to become the one and only 'safety' service. If Hitler gave the orders for a genocide, it was Himmler who drew the plans and executed them cheerfully. Hitler was an idealist, with buckets of charisma, apparently. This charisma, his verbal skills and his ability to inspire a whole nation were his strong leadership traits. But he was also rather weak and not much of a "maker". He wouldn't have amounted to that much without his henchmen, who drew meticulate plans (Goebbels: propaganda, Himmler: SS, etc etc) to execute Hitler's idealist visions.

 ............... Remember, I'm only 13 :-$ I wouldn't say he is though.. I was referring to people who speak English/are well versed in the English-speaking culture. Though strictly speaking, I probably should have used the term Anglo-American :D.

These jokes are completely meaningless to non-Anglo-Saxon folk anyway, but I'm guessing chuck Norris is the male alternative to stupid blonde jokes?

Maybe randomness is your constancy and your OCD? :D

I tried, but I missed getting in by like .. 2 points. Tigra is right, I'm sure it's not all it's cracked up to be. Considering that having an IQ over 140 is more of a handicap than a blessing, that would seem logical. Being highly gifted is not a fun trip. Not for the persons themselves and definitely not for their parents/surrounding. I'm not sure if I'm translating this right from my own language, but highly gifted children have asynchronic development patterns. While they develop very quickly on some levels, they develop slower on others. Often, this gives their teachers the impression that these kids are either really dumb, or are playing dumb. Not a healthy situation... I'm really not surprised to hear Einstein had so many difficulties in school.

Yeah, I heard it on the news yesterday evening. Tuesday 18:00 GMT. This sort of news is a headline in Belgium, we're a very sensitive nation when it comes to paedophilia. The Dutroux case is still a national trauma, even after more than 10 years.

Hmmmmm nothing better in the winter than a long walk in the snow with your favourite friend and a thermos filled with hot chocolate mixed with a bit of vodka/brandy.

Can't really think of anything :-k. I guess I belong to the other 97,6% of the population. I do have a way of obsessing about (past) relationships, because I have this tendency to rationalise everything. Not really the best approach to matters of the heart. I need to know why things happened the way they did, even when there isn't a logical explanation. I just can't let it rest until I have constructed a plausible reason/logic at the very least. Often to find out months or years later I was wrong and blinded by my theories. But that's a very different thing from OCD and probably just part of human nature in general anyway.

I think a superpower would mean more bother than pleasure, but as a girl, I was a huge fan of Deanna Troy in Star Trek. I loved how she could read people's thoughts and emotions. By now, however, I've realised that being able to read people's minds probably isn't that much of a blessing. I'm insecure enough as it is without knowing people's opinions of me :D.

Uh, yeah sure, the best shield in the game, a very rare drop. I'm sure people will be throwing them out of their banks for a few bucks in no time -.-. You should wait a bit, though, I think, until the prices settle a bit. It's never a good idea to jump on the bandwagon, unless you're ÃÆÃâÃâüberwealthy and won't miss your santa's, of course. -
Whoa. Now I know why I never start topics myself. What makes this thread so much worse then "whaaa, my girlfriend dumped me, I want to throw myself from the nearest bridge but I can't find the way" or "please, do share the colour of your underwear"? Other than that, I'm enjoying the read here.

I've never been fired before, but my boss did tell me once that my work was too good. "Just good can be okay, things don't always have to be excellent." He was complaining that my e-mails to him were too well-written :D. He felt I spent too much time on them and he couldn't understand that writing coherently in full sentences comes natural to me. He's a fabulous boss though, who saw through me and my perfectionism very quickly.

Ehm. Thanks to this thread, I've just learnt that not all platitudes and clicḫ̩̉̉s are true -.-.

RC, Construction and Magic. RC is my lowest skill (63) - I'm going tears of guthix all the way, except when I need a few cosmics, laws or astrals. Construction - I powered to 70 to get a guilded altar and that's where it's staying (except for the xp from long/curved bones I get through slayer). I would like 84 to get rid of all the lvl 3 treasure trail items in my bank though.

Sumpta replied to Uula's topic in General Discussion
No, and you'll have to wait a few hours at least. Apparently this drop makes dragon drops look common. ie. this drop is VERY rare That would seem plausible, considering the great stats of the shield. These draconic visages won't be too common, because they'd just make all the other shields obsolete. Too bad I just finished a blue dragon slayer assignment... -

Or you could still do them and mock the inexperienced idiots who think they can kill a metal dragon and pick up the loot they drop :D. It'll die down soon enough. But it's true that slayers are getting a lot of attention lately. A good thing, no? -
I think we can all agree that the war has been very traumatic for all the parties involved, with gruesome atrocities on all sides of the conflict. It still makes most Europeans (who can remember) shudder to think of it and it's still a very delicate and dark episode in the history books of the UN. The fact that the conflict still isn't really resolved and keeps on brewing, doesn't help much either in gaining the trust of Europe and the rest of the world.

Bahahahaha. Toucḫ̩̉̉. It must be highly annoying to see your area of expertise shredded by the arrogance and idiocy that is so often displayed on these boards. It makes you feel quite powerless, doesn't it :?.

If people feel bad in their bodies and genuinely feel their mental and physical gender are not the same, why shouldn't they change their sex? Who are we to judge them? It must be a horrible feeling to live with, I'm glad these people have a way out of their suffering nowadays. Gender isn't as clear cut as we like to believe. Every man has female traits, every female has male traits. We're not purely the one or the other. But I guess that's too confusing and scaring for some, so they cling to the black and white divisions.

I read your posts with a lot of interest. They often reminded me of my struggles when I graduated from university at 22. Things that I still struggle with and probably will keep on doing till the day I die. Adults don't have the answers and in a way that is a comforting thought. Anyway, thank you for the work you put in your posts, they make a welcome change from the teenage angst filled threads here . Oh, and happy birthday of course!
