  1. Check to make sure the adapter works on another computer (if it's a computer that connects to your modem via a cord, unplug that cord and test the device) or that the port it's plugged into isn't damaged (test another piece of equipment that can use the same port). Other than that, I have no possible suggestions, as I'm not techie enough to go much past that.
  2. The only difference between Streaming and Downloading (as far as I know) is that streaming downloads it while you watch, while downloading is just the file downloading for future use. Each works exactly the same; Streaming is just for more immediate watching. You can use whichever you like at no harm to your download connection. Streaming is simply accessing the file while it is being downloaded as well.
  3. If this were to be done, there'd have to be some way to balance it out. For example, maybe make it where you need to have like 50 prayer to access such an altar. Then, also make it where you gain about xp equal to 1/3-1/4 of your prayer level every 2 or 3 seconds. Also, make it where you "become exhausted from your praying and will be unable to continue praying for 30 minutes" after so long (perhaps 5 minutes), so that people can't just sit there, place a paper weight on the right arrow key, and level up effortlessly. Just to prove that my thoughts work, a person with 99 prayer would gain 25-33 prayer experience every 2 or 3 seconds. Assuming the worst values (3 seconds, 1/4 level), this is 100 increments of 25 prayer experience, totaling a mere 2,500 experience. A dedicated person could earn this much easily with Dragon Bones and a Gilded Altar in less than half the time (and realize that this assumes level 99). Also, assuming the max values (2 seconds, 1/3 level), this same player would gain just under 5,000 experience. Given, I can understand this being abused since you could technically do this 24 times a day, but a decent quest could be put in that balances out the gain. Also, my values are open to adjustment, however I still have to give a disagree on it. Prayer is another one of those skills where you really have to work to get it up, and a simple method like this really defies the point of it.
  4. Confirm, real quick, that you have the levels from all 3 landers? Each lander has different level monsters, so finding the levels in one boat means nothing to the others.
  5. I'm gonna pop in on this conversation and add my views on this. The topic starter is looking at this for profits. If someone is looking for pure profits, then yes, what the topic starter states is true, and holds true in most cases. I won't dispute his math, but I will dispute the logic behind it. Most people are interested in the Magic Experience. This is because Magic turns out to be a cheaper version of Construction if you're not using Alchemy (in most cases at least). By using Alchemy, you get a constant source of money while still gaining Magic Experience at the same time. You may be making less money, yes, but you're gaining more experience in the process, which most people are just happy with because they are still profiting in the long run. I, for example, use to buy every raw (except essence, because at the time I couldn't craft natures), meaning Yew Logs, Bow Strings and Nature Runes. This was back when these items together would cost you 700-750gp. This means that I would only get 18-68gp of profit per bow, and I had no problems with this. I was essentially earning free experience, which was the goal behind it. Little or no profit is fine for most of the Mages out here; they just want the experience.
  6. I really didn't want to dive into this, but this make me have to... We aren't looking for them to moderate the forums, we want them to have moderator abilities so in the case of an emergency they can lock the topic, remove bad link, etc. We all know that the crew browses and posts on the forum, why shouldn't a select few have this ability? I won't argue the point any further; I'll just express what my idea was and let Albosky handle it as he sees. This was essentially what my thought was behind us crew getting moderator powers. We won't be considered moderators and we won't make the casual decisions regarding things like spam or something. All we will do is be there in case of an emergency (such as the keylogger incidents of last week). For the keylogger incidents, I was online within 5 minutes of them being posted and could've easily taken them and deleted them while someone else came in and banned the user. Sometimes a moderator isn't online, but a crew member is. Just because a person from one area of the staff isn't online shouldn't mean that something from their department will have to wait until someone does log in. We already have that with the crew, where we can help clear out submissions from other areas of the site, why shouldn't we be able to help the moderators as well, albeit in extreme circumstances only.
  7. I've yet to do that quest, so if I get to that part and I notice the issue, I can post back to confirm (don't expect it any time soon, I haven't worked on the quest in a while).
  8. Then how come all tip.it crew have that delightful little avatar? I can understand the need for admins to have such avatars but crewbies? Make no mistake I have a lot of respect for some crewbies I know fairly well but it seems a little incongruous. Go on, take it out of your avatar, I dare you  . You want people going around here saying "Give me your password, I'm Tip.It Crew. I just have my crew avatar turned off" ? Either way, I cannot voluntarily turn it off. And just because I have it doesn't indicate that I fall into the category that I've placed you in. It means that I am crew, and the avatar holds no meaning to it as to the reason of why I am. Again, all the avatar shows is that I am crew; not a desire to have my name appear all over the site.

A good way to get Rubies on your own (and Sapphires and Emeralds especially) is to use the Rogue's Den wall safes in the main area. I usually get 4-7 rubies per load, plus a large assortment of sapphires, emeralds, and about 2k gp each, using only 10 monk fish per load.
  10. The bestiary has been going a little slow. It is the area of the site that has the most submissions submitted to it. Most of the times (as in 9 times out of 10), submissions we get are either repeat submissions, spamful submissions, or the person copied the entire drop list into their submission, made 1 correction, and expected us to find that drop out of the entire list. If you posted your submission in the forum topic, that topic was recently moved to a private board for the bestiary crew for us to go through and make updates as needed. Also, it is very possible that sometimes, we get such a back log that when you send in a submission, someone else submitted it before you and therefore they will get the credit as the first submitter. And not to be rude to anyone, but if the only reason you're helping the site is to be credited, then you might want to reconsider your motives a tad. All of us who are on the crew didn't become crew because we wanted to see our name all over the site and wanted the glory of being on "one of the top fansites for Runescape." We did it because we want to help other people in Runescape, and becoming crew is the best way to do this.

Don't think so... So much for that then...

This story seems relevant and was added recently enough to possibly be it. If the topic's creator lives in Pennsylvania, then this story here should be it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21015291/
  13. Something I've been thinking of mentioning to Alby is to give some of us crew the ability to moderate the popular boards (the main Runescape group predominantly) but simply be instructed that our power is not to be to make judgment calls on what topics that should be locked, but rather to lock topics that are obviously spam or ones that contain dangerous links. I know this morning (which I'm sure is what this topic is referencing), I noticed a person who made a new account and made 4 posts (all the same as far as I know) and there was nothing I could do because I didn't have any powers and the topics had already been reported. If Albosky doesn't do this, then e-mail notifications of reports should at least be activated (meaning when someone hits the report button, mods who select to receive these e-mails will be e-mailed that there's a new report). At least I think that's what that little message on the report thing mentioned (e-mail notification disabled by Admin...) I really don't expect the first option to be implemented, but perhaps the second one could be given consideration.
  14. By putting post count limitations on people, it would encourage spamming. Someone could go to one of the lesser used boards towards the bottom of the page, spam to high heaven until they have 100 posts, and then go link spamming. Given, there's a better chance they'll be caught first, there's still the chance.
  15. I can also confirm that an actual change of clothing is not required. As to whether you need money on you or not, I don't know as I was carrying about 30k on me for the various tasks.
  16. I think that "use," by this definition, refers to something beneficial to you. For example, Tarn's Diary isn't an item without a use because you can use it to power up your Salve Amulet.
  17. If only the American Government could be based on that. There's a little difference here. Making a change so that people can't lose access to a piece of data isn't quite of as much importance as would be a change that would help save millions of lives. Data can be replaced; Lives can't.
  18. Preventing people from posting links really isn't a plausable option. People can always find ways to get around the censor that would prevent people from posting links. Also, disabling BBCode or HTML for one specific group of people isn't possible as far as I know. The best you can do is report these posters and the first moderator to get around to it will handle it.
  19. It couldn't have ever happened. That 8-dose potion would've had to be a separate item in the game, which I doubt it would've been. Each potion dosage (1, 2, 3 and 4) is its own separate item, so making a 3 and 2 dose could not possibly create a 5 dose because it didn't exist.
  20. You can only have your Slayer Assignment changed by Turael in Burthope. That is why Mazchna wouldn't change your task.
  21. Disproving that a monster drops something is much harder than proving it. We add things to the Bestiary based on logic, personal experience and reasonable suspicion. Since the Warped Tortoises are indeed Tortoises, then it seems logical and reasonable that they would drop the Perfect shells.
  22. That's exactly my point. There are those who are paranoid about Keyloggers, like yourself, and if something strange were to happen just after you downloaded a toolbar from us, then you would immediately be suspicious of us, and we don't need the hassle of having to deal with issues about our programs being malicious. You could pretty much call this the guaranteed safety against it. No programs, no possible accusations.
  23. I believe we have always held a policy of not making any features that require download so that it becomes impossible for someone who receives a keylogger to try and blame it on us. This doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen, but this will give you the reason if it doesn't happen.
  24. I can confirm this. I can also say that using Evil Dave's rat pit is the best place to do this at, as it is nearly impossible to have the target rat uncatchable with the lack of crevices to hide in.
  25. Update: forums are back.
