You'd starve before the raptors, have you tasted MREs?? I've had a couple of good flavors. My friend gets them for really cheap, and he's stocked his basement with them. Eating some foods out of a bag weirds me out though. Applesauce shouldn't be in a bag.

Instead of spending money on annexing the french, perhaps you could purchase a space craft and claim an asteroid or something.

Or I might take a tank with my army-friend, put it on a truck, drive to the middle of the great plains. Then, we keep a 24/7 lookout, start a small farm, and since we'd have an unimpeded view of the entire area around us, we could see them coming for miles away. If we had a sniper rifle and some ammo, we could pick a few off at a distance, because if a barret can pierce thick metal, it can certainly kill a dino. So if we see them coming, we get in the tank, and shoot at them with the machine gun, and if they're still at a distance, a sniper rifle.

My friend who's a decent rank in the army would probably steal a tank/apc. I'd chill with him. Steal all the MRE's from the base too. Then hide in the middle of a desert, where the velociraptors would starve before they got to me. Become a subsistence farmer.

Kurt Cobain is my top dead celebrity. I don't really pay attention to models or whatever though, so I couldn't make a list.

The plans are not for sale at this time. Which type of ship would you want, Colony, multi, or both. The multi can't really sustain itself forever, the colony ship is the one that has the mass food growing facilities. In any case, both ships cost 300 billion each, or 550 billion if you buy both ships. That price can be paid over a few years, instead of all at once if it's easier.

Not trying to kill the fun or anything, but couldn't someone just build one of those theoretical "Rods from God" and use those as substitutes for nuclear arms? It's kinetic, not nuclear. They could hypothetically still be used as strategic weapons of mass destruction, like a major virus. Those aren't very practical for mass destruction. Even with hundreds of satellites, you can only do damage to small (comparatively) areas with each strike, and the reloading process for the satellites would take days. Plus it would be many years before anyone who was starting from scratch on building those could get them up in space for combat use. Conventional bombs are better for mass destruction, a MOAB, non-nuclear bomb with kill anyone within about 1 and a half miles of the impact.
-
No nuclear weapons exist in the world, and none have been allowed to be made. That's just one of the set-in-stone rules of the thread. Here's what you should do, if you want to stop the virus. You could mobilize you're entire army, pretty much, and position men all along the entire borders, and allow no one in or out without making sure they're not infected. More effective than bombing mostly-uninfected civilians.
-
Just saying again, no infantry weapons are really obsolete, at least not any from the past 60 years (real life.) Two squads of equally trained soldiers, fighting, one equipped with ak-47s, and the other equipped with "next-gen" weapons would still be pretty evenly matched.

@ paul. Those were actually pretty crappy drawings. Well the colony ship isn't a bad outline/sketch I guess. @ Ross. The way were doing this for now, Brazil and Norway are going to be the ones producing ships. These ships are far less complicated then the ship we launched to another system, and take much less time and a good amount less money to build. We will be making multiples of each ship, or will if anyone wants to purchase them. So if you want a ship, either a Multi, or a Colony, ask and we can work out a price. Probably a few hundred billion dollars for a ship, as an estimate. Then it would be up to 5 years to build the ship. So if you want to do this, I would recommend preparing a crew, and planning what you're going to do/where you're going to colonize. The colony ship's normal crew is 1,300, and the multi's is 200, for reference. And about the virus, we are cutting off all air based transport to brazil, suriname, Brazilian guiana, and guyana from europe. Our african countries are closing their borders, enforced by our military.

Why would you need one? I've put 50 or so up in the past 5 years, so I might be able to spare one, but it depends on your use of it. Ok, space program update. The ship should be about 20% of the way to the planet now. The transmissions we've received already (They are of course a bit behind time wise, the most recent message was sent 6 months ago.) show that there have been no problems whatsoever on the ship. It should be reaching it's maximum velocity within the next 6 months. Now for our next project. After discussions with Norway, we have decided to unveil our first public space project. Public being that all countries are invited to join in, in a way. The project is essentially this. It has been known for a long time that asteroids have a huge amount of resources on them. For example, a single asteroid, 16-psyche, has enough iron in it that if we were to extract the amount of iron mined by the entire world in 2004 each year, the asteroid would last millions of years. And that's just one asteroid. Of course, transporting all this material back to earth would be rather difficult, but not completely impossible. So, we're introducing two new types of ships. These ships are also, incapable of interstellar travel. Their max speed is much, much less than our original ship type. They do not have modules, like the other ship, and there are no facilities for cryogenic sleep. This is because they are only designed for interplanetary travel. The ships are different, so I'll explain them one at a time. Here is a rough sketch of the ships. The ship on the top is a colony ship, the one on the bottom is a Multipurpose-ship. Colony Ship: This ship is designed for colonizing or expanding already existing colonies. It is almost self sustaining, as it has multi-tiered biodome that can grow enough food to feed the entire crew forever, barring disaster. The water recycling system is virtually 100%, it would take hundreds to thousands of years for it to run out of water. The only part that is not self-sustaining, is oxygen. There is enough compressed oxygen to last a standard crew about 15 years. So once every 15 years, another ship would have to come to refill the oxygen. The ship, once landed stands on the massive supports near the thrusters, making a tower. Internally, the living areas are in constantly spinning rings, in order to simulate gravity. Multi-Purpose Ship: This ship is the jack of most trades, you could say. It can be used as a transport ship for oxygen, raw materials, or just about anything else. But, it's most interesting purpose is as a foundry/mining hub. It lands horizontally rather than vertically, and can connect to one of the bottom supports of the colony ship for easier access. The ship itself has a section for drilling mine-shafts, and extracting resources. (The square/octagon part of this ship is part of the mining-rig.) The ship has similar water-recycling and oxygen capabilities as the colony ship, but there aren't any food production facilities in the Multipurpose ship. So overall, it can be used as a cargo ship, or a mining rig. It can also support colonists for a decent amount of time, but no where near as long as the Colony ship. So here's how your country can get involved. Norway, and Brazil, will build these ships for you, for a price, and then you have control of them. No ships capable of interstellar travel are being sold or built, due to the huge costs and build times. These ships are specifically designed for colonizing asteroids, or mars. Venus is not really an option due to the extremely hostile environment.

Describe the virus. We already had one zombie infested country, and that country was completely destroyed.

No, they all have mini-faraday cages built into them to discharge emp blasts. yes but would they be impervious to viruses? Because war technology comes with an insecure internet connection and a USB port. Well, since it's netro-centric, if the security of the main control was breached, the entire chip-using army would be compromised. The hacker could send high-pitched sounds through the chips, and broadcast images of slaughtered soldiers. And the soldiers could do nothing to stop it. They'd have to have access to the access to the mainframe that controls them. And the chips don't have any function that can receive orders or commands, just transmit things. No, they all have mini-faraday cages built into them to discharge emp blasts. yes but would they be impervious to viruses? and wouldnt those be horribly expensive on a large scale? You're going to talk to me about expenses? With your 2 trillion dollar giant robot? Okay... I think that's how much he was selling the plans for at first, not how much it cost to build. For anyone who's been waiting, Norway-Brazil space program is starting another project soon. I might edit this post, or make a new one depending if other people post.

Most 1st tier perks would be ok. They're just added equipment.

You'd die for sure. If you're living on the roof, you'd die of either sun-stroke, or hypothermia. In the winter getting on the roof would be impossible if there was too much snow. Rain would make it difficult as well.

I'm just gonna give you some advice from the start. The easiest way for me, atleast to start conversations with someone you don't really know is something like this. Let's say you see someone doing something on an iPhone. You could say "Dude, is that an iPhone (they answer). I've always wanted one of those." Then you can ask their name, and work from there. Once you talk to people a bit in real life, get an AIM account, and get other peoples screenames, if talking to people like that is easier for you. IM'ing is not a replacement for real life talking though, but it's not bad for starting. Find a hobby. Video games, paintball, drawing, whatever. Find people with the same hobby. Talk to them about the hobby, eventually move on to other topics. If you're trying to get a girlfriend, when you first get to know her you can talk about school stuff, but if you're trying to flirt with her, talking about academics is usually boring. Getting a facebook couldn't hurt either. Start getting out of the house more. I highly recommend going to concerts, they're tons of fun and if you invite a friend it's a lot more fun. Inevitably there are gonna be some [wagon] who aren't gonna give you the time of day simply because you're not popular, but it doesn't matter. Don't hang out with them. Start conversations and make friends with people who aren't just going to turn on you if anything goes badly.

As indy said, there's not much more for now. In a few days we should have landed and have the start of a colony on the planet, whether or not it's atmospheric conditions are suitable for out-of-ship human life. The ship is equipped with a room that can work as a biosphere, and can grow enough food, in theory. Brazil is now working on advanced navigation/targeting systems, for possible use in space endeavors.

Some people are just messed up. That doesn't mean they deserve to be tortured. You people are starting to remind me of PETA. -.- I never said they deserved to be tortured. They deserve solitary confinement for the rest of their lives. And PETA would get mad if I said they were "twisted animals".
-
Then don't consider them human. Ok, I can see someone murdering someone for something they did to them. I can see wanting to kill your spouse if they do something terrible or cheat on you or whatever. It's still a terrible thing to do. But this, this is worse. They took an innocent kid, and for no [bleep]ing reason, they tortured it, just for sadistic pleasure. What the [bleep] did the kid ever do to them? It's not like it was a crime of passion, it's just some twisted animals torturing something for fun. istolethepie, I did too.

a parsec is 2.5 light years or so, but there are no solar systems 1.05 parsecs away. The closest is almost exactly 2 parsecs away, and you don't have the technology to get there and back in 12 years.
-
Wait, what planet? The planet we discovered is in the closest start system, about 2 parsecs away. And even if there was a planet 1.05 parsecs away, that would take a minimum of 6.5 years to get there, and return. Traveling at lightspeed. Our ship is the fastest thing created by humans, and it isn't that fast. The fastest probe using rockets that aren't like the ones we use (and that takes a lot longer than a few years of having a space program to develop) would arrive at the planet in roughly 120 years. EDIT: Our spacecraft was launched successfully 3 months ago. The brightness from the rockets, though several hundred miles away from the earth's surface could be seen from the ground.

Just a note, that book was written in the 70s, so a lot of it is out of date.

you're absolutly right, hardcore is far better than the regular mode. in fact, its the only mode i ever play. the only thing i miss is is the exp bar at the bottom, but once i got 55 it doesnt matter.. I reckon I would love hardcore if it had normal health. Because of the insta-death if you're surprised by anybody, it really puts me off, in a regular game mode I can often win a fight even if amushed just because I'm a decent player and will get to cover and hit my shots, but in Hardcore there's no time to do anything skillful, it's shoot or be shot. However the lack of a UAV and KillCam attracts me to it as it allows players with a good knowledge of the map to reap kills unimpeded by revengers. But it's more realistic. If someone jumps out from behind you, and starts shoot at you with an ak47, in reality, your dead. Unless they have terrible aim, you're gonna take a few bullets and be dead and out. And there is UAV, iirc.

That's sort of stupid logic. "I've never been robbed before, why should this year be any different" Same logic pretty much. Not that I think anythings actually gonna happen, other than what people cause because of superstitions.
