giving free items to "newbs" a fun activity?

This used to be a pretty easy question for me, yes of course it's fun! they go all happy and stuff and you can be like their great hero

 

 

 

But things have changed, today I have achieved 75 smithing and I can now make addy scimmies, (and arrowtips in p2p) To celebrate this I decided to smith a few inventories of addy scimmies, wc axes and med helms and go around giving those items to new players wearing mithril armor and weapons so they could put them to good use :) I even called in some friends because I couldnt fit all the items in 1 inventory and together we left for lumbridge.

 

 

 

So we start looking for people to give our addy to, but we soon figure out that most people in lumby are too low for addy :-w So we set off for varrock fountain where we found many players in the lvl category we were looking for. But then something strange happened :S half of the players denied trading me... another part of the people wouldn't even stand still, some others would shout "stop trading me noob!" ( a lvl 29 said that to me after I told him I wanted to give him a free addy scimmy ) :S:S So we then left varrock, place of the idiots to head for falador, passing through barbarian village on the way many many lvl 50+ kept tradespamming us when they found out about the addy, they already wore full rune or at least full addy but they probably just wanted to get some and then sell it, some of them even kept on trading even after they had received their 1 or 2 addy items. So on the way for fally we pass by the entrance to the dwarf mines and we decide to go share out some addy med helms there, at the first few iron rocks my mate gets insulted for noob because he was wearing a "fake santa" the guy was talking about a fez here, and at the following rocks people just ignore our questions about which att wc or def lvls they have so w couldn't share much addy there either, we found some guys with lvl 30+ attack at some coal rocks though and got rid of our addy scimmies and med helms there. Then we kept going for draynor to get rid of our wc axes, we thought this one wouldn't be hard at all because willows are lvl 20 or 30 to cut so there would be many people needing addy axes there =) But once again, we get traded by people with rune axes in their hands -.- and the ones with mith or lower axes don't answer any questions, and the few ones that do trade go get money to give in return or just put up lots of willow lgs, even after telling them its free, it took me 10 minutes to get a guy to just accept an addy axe as a gift :S after that we decided to just drop all the addy stuff and willow logs we had just received right there, and call it a day.

 

 

 

So if someone would ask me again if it is fun to share out phr33 5t00f to little newbies, I'd say: "No, not anymore :("

wow looking back at that I see I wrote the entire bible here :S ah well, just post what you think about this, and discuss what runescape will look like in a few months when these (6 yr old?) newbies (or just plain NOOBS) start being the biggest part of runescape :S

I know what you mean I used to randomly get the impulse to make some equip and give it away to random people, the ones that apriciated it is the reason i kept doing it. But the community seems to have changed, now instead of "oh thank you!" its " That's all? gimmie something better" its really disheartening its like a lot of the new players are spiteful, cold, and just plain rude. makes me worry about runescapes future :\

I never got much help either :P not material help, but when I got members I made some high lvl friends who had done desert treasure so they could give me tips on how to complete that difficult quest :P but never material help though....

 

 

 

And yeah next time I should ask those people how old they are :S too bad it's not allowed :( But I bet like 1% of those guys I was trying to help was actually "allowed" to play this game. I mean, many of them didn't even speak a word of english, and I'm saying "free stuff" and "trade me" words thats all :S good thing I could help most of them out in Dutch Spanish and Catalan but omg most of them didn't even appreciate it :S Sometimes I said yw =) for the heck of it, even without receiving a "ty =)" :S

I occasionally give free stuff to the new players. But what really ticks me off, is when i give them say, a set of mith, and they just walk away without saying anything. Like at least say thanks right? Ive even gotten a few people who say "HAHA i scammed ch00" after i give them free stuff.

I agree, giving away free stuff has become much harder to do #-o most people are just too dumb to realize you're trying to give them something, and it's free. First people go around begging, and then they insult you when you try to give them something.

lol similar thing happened to me when i decieded to give away around 100 steel plate bodys with some of friends. they either dont under stand the word free or just keep begging so they can just go sell it

well they dont seem to be bothered when you drop it never mind give it to them.you shout drop party and everyone follows you,you drop the stuff and they cmplain its noob gear because its not 100 rune plates or a dragon weapon.

 

 

 

i know what you talk about and its very dissapointing.i dont think its the level 40 belows but the rest (in especially f2p) seem t dismiss youre charity.

A quite pessimistic view to be honest! Runescape wont change much and you over exaggerated on the 6 year old. I'd say this topic was more of a rant, there is lots of positive things that even you enjoy on rs.

i know what you mean. one day i was feeling nice so i decided to give 3k away to a bunch of people in lumby. well after giving away about 20k i had about 4 people following me begging for me. sure a few said thanks and went away all happy(they were all lvl 3-15). it was the ones who said "gimme more" or "come on thats nothing" that were higher leveled which saddens me and i dont give low lvls anything anymore. people just dont appreciate anything anymore :shame: .

I have made several sets of iron and steel armour which I gave away in Lumbridge. Almost everyone can wear them, so there is always someone who likes it.

 

 

 

Also, it is even more fun if you do it with a couple of guys. But I guess you did something wrong. You advertised?.. Because people found out and start to trade you. :P just don't say a thing and hand out things to people. It are mostly the level 10's who never played before who like it the most. They train at the goblins. (not at cows). These ones like it the most. (I tried it out and also it makes common sense, as most experienced players train at cows for meat + hides).

 

 

 

So conclusion: Not addy, but simple armour like iron and steel. And no advertising and a well picked spot.

 

 

 

Result: Happy new players, which in turn are nice to others (you never forget this) and! .. your satisfied you helped someone, who really feels helped out and is really nice!

Well, I kill dragons a lot. I take all the steel drops. It takes my inventory up but I did it just to give those poor noobies some free stuff. So after my dragon killing finished, I went to lumby. I gave some noobies free steel stuff and soon wished I hadn't. First, some people whom I just gave stuff to kept trading to get more stuff. Some higher lvls (lvl 50-60) wanted steel stuff, but I told them they were high enough and didn't need it. A couple were nice and went away. Others yelled at me, insulting me. Then one noob pure had the audacity to tell me to go back to the members servers (i was in a free world at the time) and even pmed me with insults when I went away!
