Is Jagex doing SOMETHING about the autoing problem? 600+

Recommended Posts

they should just ban all chinese ip's from rs, problem solved.

If they did this and you moved to China, I would be incredibly happy I have to say.

Anyways, there are plenty of articles from popular magazines and newspapers about this issue and it all links to China. Most of these people use an auto-account creator, so if Jagex could just include a random assortment of numbers that you have to put in to register the account, that could slow down the macros for awhile. Jagex isn't being racist at all, they never specifically said "Chinese are ruining Runescape, only they macro." They just stated that is where a large majority of the macroing takes place (and it is).

The problem is that Jagex is way too slow to ban. I mean, you have to cut wood for a day or 2 to get to level 60. Jagex knows exactly where these macroers are going to cut wood. It's simple, really - they have to be willing to give in-game moderators more immediate powers, instead of relying on gathering evidence before banning. When you walk up to a yew tree, you can tell right away, in almost every case, which players are macroing and gold farming. All Jagex needs to do is find a player, and if they look suspicious, check the stats. All they have is 62 woodcutting? Automatic, immediate ban.

I mean, they know exactly where to look - ess mines, rune shops, arrow shops, yew trees, crafting guild, and the mining guild on f2p. Start sending moderators around with the power to ban players on-site for macroing. They could clean up the game in a week - nobody is going to take the time to try and macro or gold farm if Jagex won't even allow them to get as far as mining coal or chopping yews. The only reason macroers and gold farmers still play this game is because Jagex lets them continue to exist long enough to make a decent amount of money with a given account before it gets banned. They could hire a team of people on a temporary basis to do this task as needed - adults trained and supervised by Jagex staff whose sole job is to ban autoers and macroers immediately in game. Bam, problem solved. Yes, it would seem oppressive at first, but the game would be so much better afterwards. And frankly, it's very disappointing that Jagex won't do what is necessary t clean up the game.

So to answer the question, yes, they are doing something, but there is no hope for it ever being successful.

Excellent speech

I agree with you completely. Jagex still treats the autoer problem like you would treat a mosquito. But in truth the autoer problem is like a termite colony. And when you find a termite colony, you don't grab a flyswatter and get all that you can see, you hire the terminator to take them all out, right? Jagex has consistently mistreated the macroing problem in Runescape.

Knitting. At level 1, you can make fuzzy mittens. At level 50, fuzzy rainbow sweaters. At level 99? Fuzzy pink toe socks.

Oh yeah.

They ban 8k acts. 10k is made. Personally, im an Asian(Chinese actully) and im fairly offended. True, alot of people in China does this, but thats simply racist.

You are right it seems, so if theres this level 3 skiller from China, not talking because he doesn't understand much english, he gets banned because of Jagex's stance, seriously if some fat [bleep] can win a suit against a fast food company for making him fat, then how can Jagex hope to win if someone takes that statement the wrong way?

Actually, the suit against Mcdonald's was thrown out of the court.

And KDB brings up a very good point, which I've also said before, myself. If Jagex really wanted to get rid of the Macroer problem, they'd hire staff whose sole job is to "bounty hunt" macroers. Honestly, when you see people in the top 500 fishing with over 20m fishing experience and no other ranked stats with a gibberish name, it's blatantly obvious that Jagex is not doing close to everything in their power to control this epidemic. And I agree with Ginger, I believe they are bluffing. I kind of believe that they are so concerned with their profits that they purposely don't do everything they can to control the epidemic because Macroers provide a large sum of money for them.

Oh, and while the recent increase in Teleporting Randoms does help control the macroers, it is also detrimental to regular players. Hell, I wouldn't mind it if they would just get rid of all the other BS randoms like the Sandwich Lady, MoM Box, and Miles/Giles/Niles. It isn't like those Randoms do anything at all, other that severely inconvenience legit players.

I've actually been reading over some of the posts on this forum, and I've come to the conclusion that Jagex need to get tougher with this issue. It's no secret I love Pok̮̩̉̉mon, and only two weeks ago Nintendo took action against those who use certain Action Replay codes to go on NWC and battle people at an unfair advantage. Nintendo are clearly sick to death of cheats hacking into their games and ruining it for people who would rather compete on a even playing field, and I don't blame them. If I was Satoshi Tajiri, I wouldn't want people ruining the challenge of my game like that! What this shows is that gaming companies are eventually coming to grips with those who would rather hack the game's program than play the game honestly - online gameplay has given them that power.

So why is it that Jagex don't do the same? I don't play XBox Live, but I'd hazard a guess they follow a similar policy - if you're going to compete against others online, you don't cheat! Jagex have to start employing more staff. It winds me up when we hear of Jagex's profits, and the Gower brothers in the Times Rich List, yet the game goes under-funded like this with clearly not enough staff. If Jagex are ever going to get to grips with this problem, they have to start employing staff who's sole purpose it is to locate rule-breakers, with particular attention to autoers. I'm sorry to say, but my time with Jagex is up... the only reason I still pay for RS membership is for my work on TiF and the odd game of CW. Aside from that, I'd have left RS long ago thanks to all of the problems that could be easily solved if Jagex payed more attention and consideration to their game.

What's perhaps also noticable is Nintendo didn't feel a need to scream their actions form the rooftops, as Jagex seem to like to do. Personally, I'd find the announcement of 8K accounts banned a week for cheating a huge embarassment rather than a sign of improvement...

Yep. I agree, completely, Ginger. Jagex has shown some signs of hope recently, with the shift to higher level updates... But there are still so many relatively simple issues that impact the game far more than a stupid quest here or there.. Such as the House Lures and the Shantay Pass holdup... As well as the calamity that is the Wilderness. They need to hire more staff to test their product, hire more staff to deal with CS (which is absolutely horrible) and hire more staff to deal with the cheating/scamming epidemics. Hell, I've pleaded for ages for Jagex to send employees undercover on P mod accounts to World 2 falador to police the numerous partner scammers, bone scammers, and Barrow Set scammers. It's blatantly obvious, too... When a level 56 is selling Full Veracs for 400k less than everybody else, 1m says that he is using the 2x skirt scam. It's pathetic, and what's worse is I see the same people there week after week, scamming to their hearts' content.

What's even more pathetic is the large number of autotypers that do nothing but advertise that they are buying things, usually runes and pots, at well below market value. The fact that there are usually 3 or 4 people in world 18 Edge and 5-6 people in world 2 fally where runes are sold all saying the same thing makes me wonder how they are allowed to do that. Hell, even pmods have the power to mute people - why not silence the obvious autotypers? It's just so frustrating to me that Jagex could very easily get rid of all the autoers, but refuse to invest the time and money to do so.

thats good to see 8000 macros getting banned a week but the stupid people who macro just make another file and start again. but a good job to JagEx and like Halo_2_4_U said "If that many macro accounts can make it past 60 WC, Jagex doesn't seem to be stepping up to the plate very well." i agree they could step it up a bit because i am sick of trying to cut yews when r like 20 macros chopping and u get none

Seems that no one has noticed the "bot-busting sessions". As some of very few of you might know, Jagex is trying to make it visible to the community that they're doing something. They introduced sessions where a bunch of Pmods and a few Jmods hop from world to world, finding hotspots and telling the Jmods. The Jmods then arrives to clean out the most popular spots. Though why no one has noticed is still unknow to me.

Yes... Random events help a lot to track down bots....

I never heard of this news article.

That's just CREEPY... little Asian kids (I'm of a Chinese descent) sitting at computers clicking on virtual trees and rocks just to get another cup of rice on the table... or another bottle of clean water... I feel so sorry for those little kids... and I really detest these "sweatshop" owners who make these kids do this - they're all going to be nearsighted by 10!!! Cataracts in their 15's! Maybe eye cancer by 20! Or some other horrible eye disorder, those kids deserve better... the chinese/korean or whatever government should prosecute the "sweatshops" for child labor....

On 12/10/07, Jagex emerged victorious from their war against the mechanical swarms of Real World Traders.

But in the battle, we, the spectators, lost one of our closest friends...

We will always remember you, Merchanting. May the question live on.

The question is realy what should jagex be doing.

bying stopping realworld trading they are cutting down the amount of money being sold in runescape for real money.

but instead should jagex be monitoring autoer activity. by banning autoers they are cutting the source at the roots but then another autoer could be made again and just used

so realy there seams no solution to this, maybe jagex should just make money more scare :ohnoes: so people arnt able to buy sharks in bulkload for say 300gp each. or even just raise prices of items or something like this. i just want it dealt with since at this stage it is just ruining the game

But they aren't doing it enough, or the autoers would be gone. And if they did do this, they would advertise such a campaign, but they haven't. They need to have more than a few Jmods with instant banning power, and they need to have several per world to clean out all the hotspots. If they are doing this, then they aren't doing it on a wide enough scale for it to have any real impact. If they did this 24 hours a day for a week, the autoers would disappear completely, and any stragglers could be caught by a much more modest team of moderators.

did any one notice an increase in macs when they did the massive ban?..... i noticed that when i went on youtube i typed in macroe and found one person that went into a site im not going to name cause there are some (desperate) players out there who could spend like 10 dollars for 20m... i noticed when i went on that site and found that there was an anti ban function. now this intruiged me to no end. i didnt get the curiousity solved partly because i didnt pay for the feature :D. but one day as i was in world 2 i got the prison peat random event and a mac teleported there a little after me and he was around level 56 and he said seling rune bolts 2k each or something like that. and oobviously it was one after another on the flash 2 chat effect. now obviously i reported him and about 2 more people came into the random event. i said report this guy he has two space in between this letter and this letter. and then he said sup dawg and i was like  . macs can talk??? let alone have a soul??? so i was like yeah you were macin before dont lie. and hes like no im just a really fast typer i cant help it. (ooooooo i got pissed this was more pointless that tryign to teach a cat into barking.)so i furiously finished the event and logged off. still pretty pissed off. i had no idea that your mac could respond.... i think its just that you can moniter if people send reports and it sends a notice and then you just do what-ever you can to avoid jagex banning you.....

i think that jagex DOES NOT READ ABUSE REPORTS :wall: . ive heard that if you report some one and it goes through your supposed to get a notification in your inbox. well ever since the day i started to this very day ive reported at least 300 people/bots/scammers for legit rule breaking. and im so very pissed off at this, my hypothesis is that if you have any black marks they dont even care to look at it.... my friend is a mod and i only wanted the ability to have my name come up even though the public chat was off ( :P) and never got that luxery. i think ive reoprted more than my friend (i report people at least once a day.) and no crown. JAGEX PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR PLAYERS.

1. If that is why you want to become a mod, you should, and probably will never become one.

2. It isn't all about the amount of reports. Becoming a mod requires many other things, things you aren't showing.

JAGeX is doing something about macroers. They do not publicly announce it because the macroers would soon defy JAGeX's macroing methods.

wow, please cut the flaming and threatening as it could make things nasty.

Anyway, I'm starting to see that Jagex is really trying hard to ban autoers, but they always have some sort of counter-act (IP banning isn't that effective as people can change it) and autoers always come back. I think some of you don't realize that the shark prices are back from the chaos at the time I posted this thread.

There are some good points on here. The tricky part is that one half of the macro problem isn't being addressed, the demand side. Macro's only exist b/c someone will buy their products. As I've stated time and again, the RuneScape model is a level treadmill designed to keep people playing as long as possible. Playing the game is fun, but leveling up at high level is not.

The tricky part is they left an out in the game, skills levelable by cash. With enough money you could level crafting, smithing, fletching, or mage to exceptionally high levels in very short order. If they dealt with this issue via some official selling of gold or exp or even raw materials for money, the macro problem would disappear overnight.

As it is, they have added some economic sweet spots to fight the cash flow problem. The gold bracelet high alchs for 30 over the price of nats, maple longs sell to the tradershop for double wha you buy them for in Manage Thy Kingdom, so maybe they are working on something.

For now, forget Mod-squads, if they did the simple act of adding level 9 mages or other low-level agressive monsters at the yew trees that would be an action. Till they do that, I won't buy that they are doing something about macroers.

What a lot of people don't understand is that when a member macro gets banned the owner now has to pay another $5 and spend the time getting the new account back up to "money making potential". So by banning member macros Jagex would actually make money and slow down the autoer at the same time.

Autoers don't purchase their membership with real money, rather they use in-game money(which they have plenty of) to buy membership pins off black market sellers(basically irl rich people who trade their real money for Rs money). Getting an account to "money making potential" is a child's trick. A few botting scripts, and 60 wc is obtained, or in case of pure ess mining by example, a mere mining lvl(?).

Jagex should ban their mains not the macroers.

It's the simple theory as attacking the Kalpite Queen. You should attack the Queen NOT the guardians, workers, soldiers, etc. It helps nothing by attacking them.

Their mains usually have moderate level with respectable amount of money so that they can ration them to those workers when the account is made, especially for those auto rune/arrow/feather buyers

So, ban their mains by checking how they obtain money by drop trade. Ban them and they will soon be eliminated

they should just ban all chinese ip's from rs, problem solved.

Then they will just use proxy servers, it hides your real ip, easy for autoers since they are already been using it in bots for several years.

These people aren't 14-year old script kiddies, the people behind these programs can compete with Jagex....

I don't think I've seen any good suggestion to get rid of autoers here on TIF.

On topic again: about the banning of china from rs

But what about the other 1.3 billion people living in China?

Exclude them from playing rs ?(like google blocks certain political searches in china, freedom of speech yeah right)

If people already find the news message in the first post offensive and racist this what would this be then?...
