Naughty or Nice?

Well these days its hard to go five minutes without somebody posting about how bad the community is.

But I've, like many, have been thinking about this.

I fail to see (in members worlds at least) the community as that bad, I see mainly nice people or silent people. I've never traded or given stuff away without receiving a thank you. Sure some call me a noob or a no lifer for no reason, but they are in a minority.

I still try to be nice and just ignore and report thoose being rude and abusive for no reasons.

So my thought is what do you do? Are you just moaning about the community or are you trying to make a difference?

If we all instead of moaning remain nice, kind, helpful players and set an example for new players. And ignore or report the abusive immature players we can slowly make a difference to the community.

Seeing a nice kind player will inspire some to be that themselves

Seeing a good player reporting an abusive player so they get thier black marks will encourage newer players to stay within the rules and be a good player

Being stubborn and ignorant as "no-one" is kind these days will spawn immature abusive players

Bragging about reporting people or ignoring your responsiblity as a player to report rule breaks just says to newer players "the rules don't matter"

I'm not saying the community can be perfect, thats impossible, but don;tyou think if we all make the effort here we can repair the higher levels community and set an example for the lower levels to follow?

While at the same time getting blackmarks and bans notched up against rules breakers so the immature abusive community is slowly forced into line or out of the game?

The bad community hasn't yet stopped me from having fun or enjoying the game. With the help of report abuse- button and the allmighty ignore list I have enough control over the people around me. The lack of good conversations with fellow by-passers doesn't bother me, because I know where to look when I need someone to talk with. The growing number of pointless topics here at tip.it is understandable, because there hasn't been a discussable update or event in the past two weeks (except today's login server crash).

I don't understand why people are so negative these days. Someone care to explain?

In a way you are sort of saying that the community is bad, especially by posting this. But, as I said on mario_sunny's thread, the community is bad. The RuneScape in game community has been on the decline since I started playing about 3 and a half years ago. The "Miniclip Revolution" gave us no help, this merely bought in idiots by the shipload. Also, the "Pure Revolution" has also degraded the community with their arrogance and downright rudeness.

That said, there are still some great people playing Runescape. The more secluded areas seem to be the best spots to find new friends. I've met some great people on Runescape that I love to joke or chat with. The community may be sliding, but there are still great people playing this great game, you just have to look for them.

I am not saying the community is bad

Iam saying all these people complaining are not looking hard enough and are not helping change the bad community.

Well the people that complain usually dont report autoers when they see them. I report them because I enjoy it. I take pride in other people's (in this case robots) misery of getting banned.

No, you're not evil, I think everyone enjoys that. \'

But most people who say the community is bad will try to help, most people on TIF do. There's not much we can do about it though, for every person we report, another 3 out there scam someone. One time, by reporting somebody, I actually made the situation worse.

There were a group of scammers (I think they were a group because I was buying a rune scimmy, and all 5 or 6 of them switched it out for an iron), so I reported one, and said "reported". That made the rest very angry, so they all started cussing me out and saying he was innocent and telling everyone else I reported somebody for no reason. Everyone else believed them (no suprise there), so everybody started cussing at me and telling me I was the kind of person that ruined the game for everybody. I just teled to Lumbridge but 10 or 11 people pmed me just to cuss me out. I reported some, but then I just logged out. The next time I logged in, I got a message from Jagex telling me to "please not abuse the customer services"!!! I appealed and didn't get a black mark luckily.

I agree with you, i hardly ever get people who are rude or whatever i mean theres always a few in castle wars because they always have to be better than you and if not your a noob, but for the most part I dont think the communitys that bad and the people who say it is dont look at the good aspects of it

Not trying to mean anything by it, but I just noticed that a competitive area tends to be populated unhelpful, mean, rude people. However, other places, do not. How curious, eh? I'm generalizing by saying this, but it just might be that unpleasant elements are attracted to those places.

I fail to see how people who found out about the game on miniclip are degrading the community.... *cough* <.<

However, I do agree with pures being a large asset to the degrading of the community. I know for a fact that I have friends who dont care about their pure. They dont care if it gets muted, banned, etc because they can just make a new one in 3 days, so they say and do whatever they wish. I would assume this is part of the reason for the escelating poor behavior in lower levels and pures.

I don't think there's anything that can be done to 'repair' the community, except maybe quantum physics. "Yay, let's repair the community!". Thanks, that almost sounded easy.

One thing I have noticed, saying you reported someone is NEVER a good idea. Saying it outloud is just inviting them to a flame war with you, whitch ends in them reporting YOU, after a slip of the lips on your part.

Me, I just report silently, and then when they get the black mark or ban, they are like "WTF, who would dare do this to ME?", only to review the evidence and discover I reported them without a word, then added them to the ignore list. I have done this to countless people.

Its because it has to do with fighting and so the most "0mg! fu n00b p0wned" comments are in the more aggressive areas. Like all combat places, there's more competiton and this explains the noobs there.

If you look at Halo MP and Runescape, you'd realize Runescape has a far better community than Halo MP (though, Halo MP has tamed down the kids).

In Runescape, its common to see this:

"noob"

"0mg! die noob"

"ancient noob!"

and so on. In Halo MP (a bit uncommon), you may get these. Censored for a reason:

"FFFFFFFFFF************************************KKKKKKKKKKKKK"

[kid dies]

"Eat sh*t n*gger!"

"F*** this!"

[logs off]

[kid2 was killed by smartguy (with a rocket)]

kid2: lol, rocket wh*re.

[kid3 gets killed by smartguy with a pistol]

kid3: b*tch

[dies again]

kid3: 0mg! f***in nerd.

>>just wonderous... :-k

and unlike Runescape, Halo MP has quite a few "sexygurlsonly" servers.

I'm not advertising, but you gotta realize that more violent games have more competition and noobs than Runescape; since pking areas have to do with fighting, there will be a lot of the examples on Runescape I'm posting.

We are- well at least I am- doing something about the community here at tip.it. Don't assume all of us are whining no-doers. The tip.it community is going downhill due to the general boards and I am currently planning with several other tip.iters to fix this problem.

The community is bad. If you ever played RSC you would know, compared to the classic era runescape today is horrible. That doesn't ruin my time in the game though, I still enjoy training my character and chatting with my friends. I've been reporting people a lot lately, both ingame and tif. The runescape community is gone, there is nothing we can do to save it now. The tip.it community, though, is different. Tip.it can still be saved from the flood of "rsof users." I care so much about this community, I don't want to see it fall into runescape's current state.

Wookie- You shouldn't compare runescape to other games. Obviously runescape isn't the worst community, but you'd have to agree it's in pretty bad shape.

10 mins ago I'm standing in edge, and a lvl 98 comes up to me and says "I'll fight you in wild. You wear your mask and I'll wear my green phat". I say no, and tell him im not stupid. He says I'm a scared noob.

Real nice community, huh.

And it doesn't stop there. He keeps insulting me, trying to make me mad to I say "Little green hat vs. Scary mask.". All he has to say to that is "Stfu stupid noob. My hat owns your mask." I just say lol, and he keeps the insults comming.

Btw, 10 minutes after he challenged me, he was showing off his ancient staff to other people. Real stupid of me huh? I shouldna pjed him for being so mean.

I don't think its so bad. The source of all the negative attitudes is just competition in my opinion, folks want to make other folks feel inferior. Either that, or its just an attempt of persuasion. A feeble-minded person would be swayed by these simple insults and would either cave in, or become angry at it.

Conclusion: Don't sweat it, the real world gets much worse.

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.

In my experience, I see 90% good honost players in P2P worlds.

That 10% are full of cocky, arrogant people from RSC who whine about everything, calling you noob. Pures who think they can "own" anyone in the Wild. Also the scammers in World 2 are the people in the 10% of the bad players in P2P worlds.

I find everything I trade with say thanks. I only hear "noob" in the Wild, or two lower leveled characters.

F2P worlds are a whole different story.

I think the bad community idea came from high lvls who remember RSC and hate the fact everyone seems to have it easier now (not true for some skills). I've heard many a high lvl player say "RSC was better no one would be horrable to you at any lvl" but I remember it being just as bad. Theres just more players overall which will increase the number of nice and bad players.

However I seem to find the majority of the community is nice players (and autoers  )> There are obviously some Noobs around but they seem to be in the minority to me.
