kieranread
Well i was telling people on tip it chat they didnt believe me so heres a quote "MMO publishers can follow this green staircase to the money pile. World of Warcraft is still the most popular subscription MMO in the Western market, by far. Blizzard's money-printing machine accounted for 54 percent of the subscription market in 2006 and generated $471 million in revenue. WoW's next-nearest competitor is Jagex's RuneScape, a much smaller-profile game from a boutique developer. Overall subscription revenue in the Western market in 2006 was worth $875 million." And heres the link to prove it. http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/774/774196p1.html This is dated March 07 so is fairly recent although it is 5 months old. primadog
Glad RS is moving up in the world. JaGeX and the Gower brothers deserve it all. However, I'll like to point out that "Western Market" does not equal to "The World."̢̮̣ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃÆãâââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃÆïÃâüÃâÃÂ¥ÃÆïÃâýÃâà All I learned in life, I learned on Tip.it

underu2000
2nd number of account wise of course. Revenue wise it would be left in the dust, because it only charges a fraction of other mmos (good thing for us, bad for jagex and these survey things) and thus would make only a fraction in total profits as well. And even then, only 1/9 of the accounts are paid for, the rest are f2p, cutting revenues even more. Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either. Latinoking
its gettin to big... we need more servers I actually posted this in RSOF in the beginning of Summer (about it's about time they add more worlds due to more people playing in the summer); it was locked. But they added more worlds, but took out 60. They could add more at anytime. The reason why it's popluar is because I play it. \No, I don't have a big ego. Hehehe. Joking. And yet, with all those millions, the company can't provide reasonable service to answer simple questions from paying customers. ~q Exactly. Jagex has more than enough money to spend on staff, it's time they cut the kiddie-crap and actually stepped things up a notch. They need to tone down the censor, so at least words like crap, damn, and sucks are not censored. I can see censoring gay, b****, [bleep], f***, s***, and some security related things like phone.. But it's a 13+ game, so damn should be allowed. They need to buy better servers for the chat; having to say sentences that are more than ten words long in two messages is highly irritating. They need to hire way more staff to do bot/scammer patrols and to work in CS... Because CS is the most lacking part of the game. It's absolutely horrible; 75% of the time, you receive automated messages based off keywords in your original message. I once took the time to go through the high scores and write down the names of about 20 fishers and woodcutters that have those stats at 99 as their only ranked and gibberish names... I sent a message to Jagex asking why, if they have such sophisticated technology, are these players not banned? I received a message that told me about appealing a ban, and what to do if I am wrongly banned. What the [bleep], Jagex? I wish that J mods would go undercover in world 2 on their personal Player Mod accounts in order to trade with and identify the scammers.... And then perm ban them. Just go to the Verac section: there are at least three to four scammers there perpetually. It's pathetic, and nothing ever gets done about it. Matok
i'm always glad to see good work appreciated =D> I would rather it be the second smallest MMO in the world No you dont, this game whould have been stuck if Jagex couldnt efford hiring more R&D people.. I wish that J mods would go undercover in world 2 on their personal Player Mod accounts in order to trade with and identify the scammers.... And then perm ban them..... be reasonable dude, how many people do you think should patrol?20?50?whats an effective number in your opinion? j mods aren't volunteers, they are people who works for money!!! dont tell me you expect Jagex to hire 50 men whose only job will be to do virtual patrols all over RS day and night.. could be funny though if they do: J Mod1:" What do you do today"; J Mod2:" 19:00- 04:00 am ,at the seers :wall: " J Mod1:"nvm m8,few aspirins and you'll be ok,lets gets some donuts before our shift start.." DarkDude
Jagex definatly need to add more servers. For some reason when servers get ~1500+ people on them I lag a lot which makes RS unplayable. This leaves me only a small time period where I can play lag free, slightly annoying. Members servers are a lot more crowded than F2P servers these days, so even changing 5 or so F2P servers into P2P would make a HUGE difference. Italian5kamikaze
If you think about it, this could actually be the best thing to happen to runescape, depending on the personalities of new players, jagex can start banning bots in larger groups as more people come in to balance out the flow of raw materials. Quit. PM me if you play The Conduit to exchange friend codes.
Goobore
woah that is amazing...can't believe Runescape is the 2nd largest MMO =D> Don't, because it's not true. Primadog made a very good point, namely, "Western world" does not mean "Entire world" Rs is in 4th place according to this chart Even so, it's a very impressive position. My concern is "How many RS players stay with the game as they age and have more money available". RS gets the younger crowd because of the cost and ease of getting started. But eventually, some players drift away to games with better graphics, more quests, less grinding, and a bigger world to explore. Jagex would be wise to add content to hold on to players as they mature...
fat_klutz
Western market makes me laugh. I know for a fact blizzard games (Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo) are all played much more in the "east" (Asia) then they are here(US). Another thing, alot of people have two or three members accounts which means that the actual amounbt of paying members could be only half of what they say or less if you consider bots. WoW requires a an activation code specific to your accounts so their is no denying how many people they have playing but on RS its alot trickier. If you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature. ^^^At least I'm not the only crazy one

That 875 million number is not jagex income from the western market. A small part of it, yes, but that number is including all subscription games. WoW, RS, and whatever other games are played. The chat censor does need work so it doesn't block so many words that are fine, but the words you listed have no reason to be said. I don't care if you are 10 or 50, theres no reason to say any type of profane words in publics. What you do on your own time with friends is fine, when it is in private and not a public place. The RS world is essentially a public place. Sentences don't need to be longer then they are with the exception of possibly private chat. Imagine the auto talkers in trade worlds if they could spam messages that were 3-4 lines long? The CS is pretty bad, but how many thousands of messages do you think they get a day. They could add another 100 staff and still not be able to keep up with all the people sending in queries. And I can guarantee that 85-90% of the queries send in are useless messages. I don't see a way that jagex could honestly keep up with that. I don't think they need mods patrolling trade worlds for scammers because frankly, with 2 very obvious trade windows, if you fall for it, you deserve it.
