Master_Smither
Rares are now as you know VERY expensive and it shows wealth. But back in RSC(Runescape Classic) Rares were cheap and just kool looking. Say you bought a P hat set for 1M from mining 5k coal in rsc then someone else mined 5M coal in rs2 and bought a set. Who is richer? Remember the guy who made 1000M made it via skilling. No merchanting, staking,pking,etc...... Say you got a set back them for 1M and now it's worth Bil's. So were you any richer than the guy who bought that P hat set for 1000M today. You only had 1M and that were all your money comes from. But this guy had 1000M. So even though you payed 1M you have Billions yaya but you never had over 5M so intern ur not richer than the guy who bought the P hat set you just played the market. Any thoughts? I hope I explained what i was thinking well enough :) Click for My Blog670th to 99 Smithing July 21st, 07 |743rd to 99 Mining November 29th, 07 | 649th to 99 Runecrafting May 18th, 08 | 29,050th to 99 Defence October 20th, 08 | 20,700th to 99 Magic November 8, 08 | 47,938th to 99 Attack December 19, 08 | 37,829th to 99 Hitpoints December 24, 08 | 68,604th to 99 Strength February 4, 09 | 27,983rd to 99 Range February 9, 09 | 9,725th to 99 Prayer June 8, 09 | 6,620th to 99 Slayer December, 12 09 | 4,075th to 99 Summoning December, 28 09 | 3,551th to 99 Herblore February 24, 10 | 3,192th to 99 Dungeoneering November 11, 10 | 146,600th to 99 Cooking December 29th, 10 | 11,333rd to 99 Construction June 7th, 11 | 16,648th to 99 Farming August 1st, 11 | 19,993th to 99 Crafting August 2nd, 11 | 89,739th to 99 Woodcutting Janurary 1st, 12 | 55,424th to 99 Fishing May 9th, 12| 60,648th to 99 Firemaking May 12th, 12 | 16666th to 99 Agility May 17th, 2012 | 24476th to 99 Hunter June 1st, 2012 | 57,881st to 99 Fletching June 1st, 2012 | All 99s June 1st, 2012 | 3183th to 120 Dungeoneering July 24th, 2012 | 2341st to 2496 Total level July 24th, 2012 | Completionist Cape July 24th, 2012
mrmyk
It is much easier to get money now compared to before and if you kept the phat set from when it was extremely cheap then it shows some common sense that you actually kept it. -Devoted12-
Ya but people kept them because they looked good not because they knew they'd rise....... I beg to differ. When I played in classic, Party Hats weren't that much. In fact, I think I bought a red for about 1M. It was extremely hard to make that cash in RSC. Many people believed that they would rise in price. Most people just liked their looks and the "wealth" they represented, but some of us were actually smart and kept it. I got a new account, so I no longer have mine. Others, I know a few, have kept theirs through the whole journey and are now extremely rich. Did they luck out? No, because when most saw that they were worth something, they sold. If you held onto the rare, then that was smart of you, not really luck. saam007
Well you worth more then the guy that just bought a santa for 22mil. Money making is alot easier now but you still richer then the guy that bought a santa for 22mil because you can get more cash then him if u sell it. But the thing is what did you did all this time with the money you earned ? It is impossible to play for 2 years and not make 22mil. I got my mask set for less then 3mil back then (just remeber the blue mask cost me 600k back then rest I am not sure about the price) and every now and then I bought another rare like yellow for 20mil and white for 35mil. and just the other day I spend 162mil on a purple. and I think I am still richer then a guy that have 500mil gp in bank atm even when I never had more then 200mil gp in one point. tintin113
The item bought for 10m is still worth the same as the item bought for 240m, and so in the end of it, the guy with the set is richer, simply because he has bought it for a huge profit. Gamerr
It's like in real life eh. About 30 years ago, gasoil didn't cost a penny. So if you had an oil company, you didn't have so much money. Now you have -with the same amount of gasoil- a lot of more money. I never bought a party hat on Gamerr, but I did on my PK-er. It dissapeared together with RSC-F2P, and I only feel sorry because it takes so long now to get one. In classic people didn't really care about being rich, PK-ing was (on f2p) more fun. So people invested the money in PK-ing supplies. Yes, there was a time that masks/party hats etc. costed only under 1M, but keep in mind there were A LOT less players and less greedy players. Fekambard
Very interesting post, I think that the other guy is richer because he could afford 230M, you just got lucky, not knowing they would go up that high.
Soulthresher
If I remember correctly, the day after the rare drops they were priced at around 10k each. No, I am not a RSC player but I have talked with some and read posts about the first rare drops. You got some people who didn't think to keep them and sold them for cheap but you have some smart people out there who kept a large number for themselves and sold them whenever they needed the cash. But I thought phats were under 1m in the beggining of RS2 because I asked some guy what his crown was and he said it was a partyhat and he would sell it for 750k. That was alot to me  Weren't phats the first rare drop or was it eggs and pumpkins?

thestig0
Getting skills up, let alone using them to make money was hard in RSC. There were less make x options, no runecrafting for double nats or anything. I currently have 3.4mil which would be worth a lot more in classic. Not that I can get a rare with that amount but I wouldn't be complaining if I could. My legions of fans:

meili
Uh no because 10 mil way back in classic was worth a lot more than 230 mil now. Back then there was no runecrafting. If you fo even further back there was no thieving either. Nats were from npc drops only so high alch was rare. Nowadays millions of nats are available and gp is much easier to make than before. 230 mil now is nothing. Ordinary people who aren't in the top levels of hiscores have that much, or even more. Back then 10 mil was only achieved by the highest levels in skills and combat.
