New skill time?

Guess I'm the only one who's thought about Jagex making the skills branch out into specialisation.

Such as this Smithing --> 2 choices: armor specialist, weapon specialist.

Mining --> gemstone specialist, ore specialist.

combat --> axe, sword, dagger specialising.

magic --> evil magic, good magic. We already had dark magic and dark prayer in the game before, but maybe now we can be able to put it to use!

Pretty much all skills can be branched out and worked on. So why make a new skill ??

Branching out on the old skills will also add many new quests, items and more levels to gain .

You also have to consider they expected to release Construction (or a skill similar to it) before the end of 2005. So that kinda messes with your pattern slightly.

I would anticipate a new skill to be released before the end of 2007, I'm sure they would make it known if they planned to not introduce more skills for some time - since it has become the norm for many players.

Then how do you suggest that your current exp gets divided between the skills? For instance in your magic example, one could only want evil magic and no good magic.

Thats the beauty of the thing, once you reach lvl 99 you can have the choice to choose in between, thats what its called SPECIALISATION, because you are than known as a specialist in a skill, seeing you have lvl 99 , you see.

And so what if one only can have evil magic or good magic ? Ain't harder than making a quest to change urself over to good.

Og and heres something not put in RS yet, but i know andrew actually contemplated it before ; KARMA .

I agree, having good and evil prayers (mostly) would be great, I've personally asked about this and got a definite no :(

As for those syaing a new skill isn't needed, care to explain why? Should the hundreds of players starting to complete the skilling side of the game just be forgotten about? How can you speak for the entire community by saying 'we' if you personally still do have a long way to go?

Oh. My. God.

Just wait for a skill to come out, you DON'T need to speculate endlessly about it!

Wow...cool down. He just noticed that, by a pattern, we would technically be "due" for a new skill soon. He then asked what other people thought. It's not like he said "OMG ITS EXACTLY 108 DAYS AND THE SKILL SHOULD BE COMING OUT ALREADY, WHATS JAGEX DOING LOLS?"

I think he made a very intelligent post (rare on these boards) asking a respectable question on what everyone's opinion was about something that is very important to the game. It's a shame to see a real post get flamed when theres a million threads asking what my favorite tree is in Runescape.

OT: I think that we are due for a new skill soon. By soon, I mean by the end of the year, or early next year. No reason really...I just think that Jagex loves making new skills and they will come out with one at least every 12 months now.

I don't think a new skill will come out anytime soon. Jagex have added a lot of new, big updates to the game recently. But you can never be 100% sure...

I think Hunter needs major updating. Compared the the greatness of Slayer then Construction, it was a real dud.

hunter is not that incomplete imo.the only thing missing are 80+ hunt monsters.i was thinking a walrus(the guy in the hunter emporium is wearing what looks like walrus hides) ,panther, black chinchompa.i think we will see higher hunt monsters over time but its not a dud.

Like Master_Smither said, Jagex is always working on new stuff which obviously includes new skill(s). In my opinion they set limit times and try to have the update out by that time, but it can't always be precise, they're all humans working eh :P

we don't need any new skills :uhh:

With more and more people maxing out, it's apparent that new skills are needed. ;) As for when that will be, who knows. Sepculation on a new skill comes up every couple of weeks, it'll be done when it's done. ;)

With all due respect, are you saying that whenever lots of people max out, we need a new skill?

Well, that won't end anytime soon...

There's too little time in a day to work on so many skills.

I say no more new skills, or maybe 1 more, and that's it.

We aren't all Zezima. -.-

Yeas, it may just coincidence, but think about it... They have TONS of people working at Jagex, and this weeks update was just the postbag which they could have 1 or 2 people complete, and the quest helps that they probably have been working on for quite some time. Both this month and last month, more so this month has been free time for Jagex to think about and plan future updates, possibly a new skill.
