Tongue Piercing...

Kay... So lately I've been thinking about getting my tongue pierced. I've talked to my friends about it and I'm getting mixed messages. Some are saying I should and stuff, but others are telling me why I shouldn't. And they have some pretty damn good reasons. I don't want to completely destroy my teeth or anything, but I've always wanted it pierced. I need help. :(

At times like this, I allow Chris Rock to some things up, perfectly.

There are alot of things you need to consider before getting your tongue pierced.

1) Are you totally into orla hygiene? Of course you are, stupid question, right? Some people aren't totally, and that can increase the chance of infection. You would need to clean it like seriously all the time until it totally healed, and even afterwards. It can be a pain in the rear at time.

2)Can you go without solid food for a couple weeks? If you get ANYTHING stuck in the hole, you're gonna have some issues, so you won't be able to eat anything good and solid until it heals a bit.

3) Do you have just one vein or split veins? Odd question, but if you look under your tongue, you can see veins there. The best veins for tongue piercing are split, meaning when the needle goes through it, it won't puncture veins, and therefore will not hurt you. If they aren't forked like that, you CANNOT get your tongue pierced, and no respectable piercer will do it for you.

4) Can you live with it for the rest of your life? I know it's not visible unless you open your mouth, but there's still that possibility that you say in 10 years "Man, I wish I never did that!" It's something that you have to consider long and hard before making a decision like that. I would say the same for any piercing as well as any tattoo.

Now, for those of you who are like "OMG guys shouldn't do that!" - Hush. I've known the straightest guys in the world with tongue piercing(s) and the piercing worked out quite well for them.

I totally agree with bloody, but mainly, I know like 6 guys who have their tongue pierced, and they are straight. For two of them, it looks really good, though it hurt like heck for all of them. One has taken his out, and it does look kinda odd.

Just remember, in 10-20-30-40 years will you still like it? Will the reason your getting it now, still be valid in 40 years?

Or my favorite reason:

Will it still be "cool" 40 years from now?

I say go pinch your tongue tell me how bad it hurts. then decide if u want to have a hole in it.

Ew God no.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Some people actually SPLIT their tongue.

Yes they do. It's very odd, and takes IMMENSE tolerance to pain and is pretty much an all-out medical procedure. I wouldn't do it, but I know a few people considering it.

my thoughts:

if you feel you want one,go for it..no matter what people say it might make you look like :) .

yes,it isn't the best thing you could do to your teeth and such, but it shouldn't turn out to be such a problem if you take good care of it..and yes,it will definitely hurt and make things uneasy at first..but hey,no pain, no gain.

i rarely see a guy with one,but poowee..it is a definite turn on for me when i see a girl with one..that,or a lip piercing. =P~

At the end of the day it's your decision but if you came to me for a job interview chances are I wouldn't hire you.

Not because of my own bias (I actually like tattoos and piercings) but because customers who are would no longer come to my shop because I hired a "teenage thug", which means less money for me.

I personally don't see a point in getting body piercings - especially something as noticable as your tongue. For one, it would hurt to get it pierce, and two, I don't think I would like having a little metal ball touch the roof of my mouth all the time.

And, as others have said, will you want it your whole life, really?

My sister actually has a tongue piercing herself, but she's able to remove it at will (in fact, she has to do it constantly to keep it clean and disinfected), why couldn't you remove it at work if it were necessary?

That's a pretty interesting concept meol, I never really thought about that.

When she takes it out, after having being adapted to talking with it in, is she still able to speak properly? And can you clearly see the hole when she speaks? How long does it take to close up when having it out?

My girlfriend always wanted it done, and she finally got it done. The first week sucked because she couldn't eat couldn't kiss etc. After that it was okay, then about a month later a lump appeared and it bothered her to the point she had to take it out. Now the lump is just starting to go away. I'd say no. Plus, it ruins your teeth.

She's able to speak normally with or without it (igt was only during the first week or so that she talked weirdly), and the hole isn't visible at plain sight. I asked her, and she told me that she could perfectly have it out for a week without the hole closing, but I'd guess it'd depend on the regeneration capacity of each person's own body.
