Jadchor
Built in RuneScape Auto-Talker Eliminate the Possibility of Downloaded Key-Loggers, Viruses & Trojans Are your fingers aching after a long day's worth of typing constant messages? To afraid of downloading a separate piece of software that auto-talks for you, which may very well contain a key-logger, virus, or trojan and put you at risk of jeopardizing your account status by violating the rules. Why doesn't Jagex just build and design one of their own? This would prevent the risks, and keep people's account and computers safe. It would also be much more convenient and would no longer be a violation to the rules. I have designed a mock version, in which how it could be set up. I do understand that there are several ways you could set it up, but I am just sticking with one way I liked best. Inactive: So here is the current presence of the auto-talk feature in an inactive form, which is indicated by the gray star. Once the individual clicks inside the box it will turn blue and function the same way it does on the normal chat box. Also, the auto-talk feature can be turned on and off in the tools menu. Active: So here is the current presence of the auto-talk feature in an active form. The chat box then becomes inactive, upon being active once clicked again. Same rules apply for the auto-talk feature as the chat box has. You can only type so many words in a message. You can either hit the enter keystroke on your keyboard or hit the enter button beside the auto-talk box; they will both perform the same function. Key concept: The message will remain in the auto-talk box, unlike the chat box, which disappears after entered. You can keep clicking enter to say that same message without having to type it over again (auto-talk, duh..). However, there is a time restriction to prevent spamming. What might that time be set to? That would be up to Jagex if they took this suggestion into consideration. Pros: [*:1gh8a7hu]It would eliminate the purpose of downloading third party auto-talker programs that may be harmful to that individual, since this feature would already be implanted into the game. It would counter-act the need for downloading those such programs, which may contain key-loggers that will steal your account. [*:1gh8a7hu]It's not fully automatic (not a start and pause concept). You have to click enter yourself to say the message each time. This will cut back a lot on the spamming so noobs won't just leave it running on all day. [*:1gh8a7hu]It would help players in regards to selling items so that they will not have to retype he same message over and over again, which becomes very annoying and irritating after a while. [*:1gh8a7hu]The individual will type messages that are error-free (if that is they spell it correctly in the auto-talk box) oppose to someone typing a message over and over again consistently making mistakes. [*:1gh8a7hu]Everyone will have access to it. Players don't have to use it if they don't want to. They can use the normal chat system if they feel they can type faster. [*:1gh8a7hu]It cannot be abused as much as the normal chat system can be since there is a time restriction. Someone can type "noob you stink!" repeatedly quicker than in the auto-talk. You can only say "noob you stink!" every 7-10 seconds (depending on the time restriction) and you could probably say that message every 3 seconds in the chat box. [*:1gh8a7hu]Helps say long message like "Buy all ranarr/snapdragon/kwuam/lantadyme seeds - Splinter" every 7-10 seconds oppose to typing it over and over and over again. I like the idea of that! Don't you? [*:1gh8a7hu]You should be allowed to report anyone who abuses this feature, such as constantly spamming, which should be a bannable offense. Cons: [*:1gh8a7hu]10 year old nubs will constantly spam "a@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@" every 7-10 seconds (which should be reported for - big deal anyways - these people could actually spam quicker in the chat box than in the auto-talk feature). [*:1gh8a7hu]Level 3 players will use it for advertising (but they have to click enter themselves since it's not fully automatic). Please post feedback and feel free to elaborate and add onto this suggestion! © 2007 Jaden / Jadchor / A Matt Tress

OldDucky
:-k This may seem to slow down players typing speed. Also, many players are lazy and wouldn't want to type several times to sell Items, etc. I think It's fine as is! Jadchor
People would abuse it, maybe max one per 8-10 seconds>? In what ways? Spamming? 7-8 seconds would be a legitimate time restriction and would be very convenient for the much longer message. Also, people can abuse the normal chat box than they could with the auto-talk feature. Remember it's not stop and pause concept, so you can't just let it run all day and keep your account logged in. It's manual in the sense that you have to click enter each time, but you don't have to type the message each time or over and over again. I just thought it would be useful to some players. You don't have to use the auto-talk feature for just short sentences when selling, etc. I would just use the normal chat back considering it would be faster, but for the longer message like: Open: 2k and rune essence back - a matt tress or Buying all fire, air, earth, mind, and death runes - matt Typing message like the above can be kind of hard on your fingers, in my opinion. I wouldn't mind waiting for a 7-10 second delay each time.

calum12
Umm no.... Auto talkers are illegal. You are not supposed to spam chat by constantly typing the same thing. This would effectivley be creating a built in macro. Hmmm.... I need a new siggy, get round to doing it later. Probably.

ZsXzSx456
You could add an anti-spam/auto-mute, regardless of whether you are using the auto talker or not. Something along the lines of: If you say exactly the same thing three times within five seconds, you are temporary muted for 30 seconds. If you continually do this, you will be muted for 10 minutes or so. Of course, the numbers can be changed. nitram99
I feel sorry for you Jadchor! People just doesn't read your post carefull enough. They keep bashing your idea with totally flawed reasons. People, he actually has thought of how to prevent spamming. If you set a time-limit on how often you can "say" the auto-typed message, say to a "cool-down-time" of 8-10 seconds, then you can only be "saying" the message every 8-10 seconds, not like costantly, several times each second! That is what that time-limit he talks about prevent, not create. So W2 and several f2p merchant worlds would NOT be over-spammed with text. What most of you ranting the idea doesn't seems to take into account is that most ppl can actually re-type the same message in less than 8-10 seconds already. So implementing this auto-talker wouldn't make much difference on over-spamming, not much more than those worlds are already over-spammed with text. The best overall benefits of this idea are; - 1) Frequent merchanting players wouldn't be tempted to download a dangerous 3rd party program as that feature would already be in the game. So this would nicely counter-act the need for downloading a 3rd party auto-talker program and risk getting keyloggers which would risk having your account hacked and stolen. This alone would to me seem for Jagex as a very good idea to implent this feature as they don't want ppl to use 3rd party programs and risk their players accounts. It's simply bad for buisness! - 2) This feature would really be a blessing to all of us that sometimes want to sell some stuff in-game as you don't have to re-type the same message over and over again which after only a few minutes gets really annoying and soon irritating too. It makes players not want to go selling stuff in bussy merchanting worlds which is NOT what I think Jagex wants. - 3) This feature would take away the chance of make errors in your selling/buying-message which you tend to make if you stay and re-type buying/selling the same stuff over and over again. This is only 3 good reason for this idea, I think there are more but I can't think of more right now. So please read his (and everyone elses post you out there want to rant and bash) post accurate. I support this idea! 8 skills at 99: Herblore - Farming - Cooking - Firemaking - Woodcutting - Fletching - Magic - Crafting

NJE03
I would really appreciate something like this, typing things over and over makes me physically hurt and this would help me a lot. As for people who want to type fast themselves, i'm sure you can turn off the feature so it is win-win for everybody. You can type all you want while I sit back and let the message go at a slow steady pace. Moonshadow
Have it a preset time limit. The time limit on the text depends how long the text is. If it is long text, the time limit is quite long (15 seconds?) Such as "Selling items, press 1 for yew logs, 2 for bow strings, 3 for nats 4 for deaths" " But, if it is something short like, "Selling coal 180ea - name" have it a shorter time limit (5 seconds?). Something like that would cut down on spam. Maybe some other measures too.

It would counter-act the need for downloading those such programs, which may contain key-loggers that will steal your account. This is the best reason that it should not be implemented, so that fools that download it can have their accounts hacked and will remember never to use 3rd party programs. But there would be one benifit to this, it would even out the field so that merchanters that are not cheating have a chance. If done properliy, this could be a great idea. Maybe it could only be done in certain places such as banks and the sorrounding areas etc. You are awesome for putting "~Shadow" in your signature and not at the bottom of your posts ~Shadow
