Summoning - How Are You Preparing?

Harrington

I'm not really preparing, I don't want to be the first to 99 nor do I really want to make a killing off the update. I don't think anyone really knows what items are going to be useful and I don't want to risk my money investing in something that could still be junk after the update.

Skills worth developing?

Hunting : The Development Diary says that Hunting will be to Summoning what Mining is to Smithing. As such, I intend to get at least lvl 90 hunting before the release

Runecrafting : They'll probably release a new type of rune for this particular spell (the life rune maybe). I don't know the level, but I'm working on this skill just in case.

Mining : That new rock on the Wallpaper section is intriging. I want the mining level to work on it even if it's not related to Summoning

Personally I think peoples reading skill needs developing.

The Dev diary CLEARLY states

summoning was going to link to hunter when they consider it as "Animal Lore". There is no reference to this being kept in the final re-concept

Summoning will be its OWN SKILL, there isn't a SINGLE skill other than magic that uses runes and they also CLEARLY stated the life rune was scraped.

As for the rocks, given their height their link to mining is doubtful, yet possible.

But your reasons for runecraft and hunter are beyond stupid given what we've been told so far

At least someone noticed this, I've been going around for ages in RS telling people that, maybe they just don't know how to read correctly... and won't believe me when I quote the article either...

Hence I won't do anything in order to "prepare" for it, chances are I wait a couple of months before even touching it anyway...

I am going to wait till they release the skill. Then I'll what I need and get it.

preparing a bit of money i suppose, though i will get 80 hunter as well. My rc is so rubbishly rubbish (i train it with Tears of guthix) that i see little point in getting pure essence, and i dont have enough capital to risk playing the market. Development Diaries looked forward to by mechants for clues?

Hmmm....

I need a new siggy, get round to doing it later.

Probably.

I'm only planning on working towards my current goal of a Quest Cape, and that should hopefully raise my levels enough to help me get a half-decent level. Also, when you can use ToG with it, that'll help a lot too.

Thanks for the great comments and contributions so far. Some great ideas and justifications there :)

For the few who believe that preperation is dumb, I hope you'll be eating your words in a few weeks time ;)

The crucial direct quote that justifies he focus on hunting is the following from the Development Diary...

The core idea being that these summoned animals would do more than just fight for you. "We were also thinking Animal Lore would be to Hunter, what Smithing is to Mining," he continues - you'd either catch and train up animals or call them out of the wild to aid you.

A few lines down from tht quote in the diray

"the skill was put on hold to await better technology and a fresh approach."

Fresh apporach implies entirely new way of looking at it.

Entirely new way implies the animal lore link to hunter and its implications was removed.

Based on your lone quote hunter is good idea, but in the context of the diary tht was an OLD idea for summoning and not the one they went with.

I wouldn't do anything in advance in anyway... so it doesn't really matter to me if you're right after all...

And yes, it said they'd be taking a completely different approach to the skill.

For Quests you might want to do something to help prepare you for summoning maybe

some of my suggetions for quests:

-Gertrude's Cat [then train your cat for a while even thought it was said summoning will not have you walking around with animals, it will get you use to their needs]

-Rat Catchers

-Icthlarin's Little Helper

other things to do

-Buy a couple of Strung Rabbit Feet, then woodcutt and hope for bird's eggs as they may have something to do with summoning

-Make some extra cash before Summoning comes out

-Get your total level really high if you want to saty on highscores for total level as the new skill will make it possible to add 99 more levels to your total level (hopefully)

Think about it.while woodcutting you can summon a ferret or something to collect more birds eggs and nests or you can summon a cow or horseto create manure and increase youre chance of crops growing or thats how i see it :P

I surely wish 'Summoning' doesn't get released on the Jan 1st, because I'm going to party hard with my mates:p. I don't think I'm going to prepare myself. I'm used to always being late with updates that involve exploiting the wealthy players that wish to level as fast as possible. I'm just going to 'do my thang'

The way I figure it, the easiest (and best) way to prepare is to do the following three things.

1. Make sure you have plenty of time to explore the full potential of this skill. Logging in at the library ain't gonna cut it, nor will logging in while you have a sink full of dirty dishes.

2. Make sure that you have whatever goals you may have out of the way [enough] for you to experiment with this skill. Nothing breaks up your fun more than knowing you didn't finish something when you had the time to. [December looks like it's going to be pretty quiet, so take your thirty day 'vacation' while you still can.]

3. Earn as much money as you can. Chances are that this skill might not involve any existing items (such as Hunter -- only incorporated maybe four or so items that existed), so gathering large amounts of things like essence, runes, and other things might prove to be too risky in the end.

I recall a horror story regarding the "Farming" skill's release -- players thought if they stocked up on seeds that they would be able to power their way to 99. Same with Construction; tiles were being collected in such massive numbers, and then the update hit and they were absolutely worthless.

Be careful. Only thing that could help (if at all) would be just money. That kind of resource proves near universal when talking about skills.

Love that idea. I also envisioned doing something like mining, then summon a beast of burden to carry your ores back to the bank for you :)

As a runecrafter, I've always got pure ess around. The new rune is a possibility but here's another.

Generally, we get spells with multiple runes. If one of these runes is a nature rune then summoning will greatly help rcing.

I'm also stocking up cash, clearing up some goals. Unless I hate every aspect of the skill and see no value in it whatsoever, I will be going for 99 summoning ASAP.

76th to reach 99 Construction on 6th of February 2007

379th to reach 99 Runecrafting on 4th of November 2007
