Is it really possible to quit?

first of all, f you're reading this, you didn't quit runescape.

Rember that ___ Tycoon game you brought 6 years ago? You thought it looked cool on the box, but once you started playing it, you said "meh".

You haven't had anything to do with it. Haven't played it, haven't looked at its site.. you totally quit the game!

Now, let me go to rs. You say you "Quit three months ago because the updates stink". Really? Wow. so you still post on a website solely dedicated to something you "quit"?

If I pointed at atleast half of TIF forum goers, got even people who post every day, just random registered people. Half of them would have a time when they "quit" the game. Did they come back? Yes. If they quit again, will they come back? Yes.

Unless you get the internet and computer taken away, all your accounts baned, and your FR wiped from both rs and your mind, would you ever come back? Depends on you.

So, why is it so impossible to leave RS for good? Magic? Magnets? Panda bears throwing rocks at you? Discuss

Cause there are updates very often and some of them are good and make people come back. Or they miss their friend or the game itself.

Whatever tycoon games dont get updated every week.

Some people do permanently quit once though.. Its not Impossible to quit

It's not just about the game, it's about the online community that grows up around the game. For some people the community ends up being the most fun bit of the whole RuneScape experience.

There seem to be plenty of people who don't want to spend time clicking around the game, but who are very happy to chat about it and see how it's changing. That's a perfectly valid way to spend one's spare time, although I don't think it'd appeal to me personally.

I'm sure there'll have been people who really succeeded in quitting over the last month :D

Last time I quit (before this one), I came back because I did nothing to prevent me from coming back. Now I gave away everything but my rune pickaxe (that's nothing, really), and I usually don't start playing a game again when my work is gone as I always just say "screw it, I won't do all this again". Friends are not a problem, they were 75% beggars  I didn't give them any money though, just helped them with a quest or two. All in all, I think I won't come back. Ever.

console games dont update. therefore your motivation suffers, you run out of things to do and you quit the game.

RS is an ONLINE GAME. you meet different people, experience new updates so it keeps you running basically.

RuneScape got boring in the last few months and this RTW was the final, tiny, straw. I still hang around in the General Forum because theres something intresting to read, such as new insights to the updates or economic topics, but I don't play the game. I just can't explain why it seems intresting from a 'outsiders'view than a 'insiders'.

Meh.

No, it's very possible to quit. One just needs to have a distraction.

For those that haven't quit or play every so often, they're either not distracted enough or they can't afford to play other games.

If they come to forums related to the game they've quit, there's a very good chance that they're here for the community instead of the game...

True, many people such as Albosky haven't played Runescape for years yet they keep coming here (and not just because he's an admin).

It can be hard to quit, but it is possible; I haven't quit myself. Jagex has a constant stream of updates, to keep it's players happy and stimulated, and when you hear about these updates, you want to come back, and then you get hooked. It can be a cycle that will go on and on.

Runescape is a very addictive game, not only due to the "social" part, where people have some or maybe all of their friends on a game, but it's also the thrill of becoming the best at something. People that might be average in real life could possible blink out by getting a 99 skill, or maybe all 99 skills *points at zezima*

I have seen many people return after "quitting", the best thing if you really want to quitrunescape is:

1. Delete account, or get a ban on it (works best ;) )

2. Ban rs from ur pc, block the site

3. block any fansites of rs

4. remove all ur rs friends from msn chat or any other so you cannot hear news about updates 'n stuff

5. plug some wool in ur ears, and play dead for atleast 1 month

6. try to actually start working on school

7. give yourself an electroshock whenever u think of runescape

And if you are not capable or willing to do some of these "to do list" things, i am sure many people in real life would like you to help you with it! Means the end of your rs carreer and the end of an endless addiction

you're right about that. i play runescape partially cause i want to show off and get respect from other people. its quite exciting when a bunch of players compliment you on your hard work like 99 skills and items.

Post this in OT and your statistics will be totally different. Tons of people quit, and I know the number one way to quit.

Here's my story (if anyone cares)

I started playing RSC when my friend Brice showed it to me at his house, and I proceeded to quit for 2 years because the graphics sucked. Then, I ran across it one day and picked it up again. Eventually, I went members and played it for about a year and a half, and in this time I accomplished many things (not really but its a lot for a game) such as a red partyhat and 97 magic. I realized that this game was a huge waste of time and it sucked [wagon]...so I quit.

I quit to play WoW. Yes, it pwns. I picked it up around June of this year (2007), and it was quite addicting but there is NO GRIND (at least you dont have and you can still be an average players), you level by interesting quests (nothing like RS quests, dont worry), and it was an overall better game. No, I am not advertising WoW, just merely stating my opinion. And since RS is broken now (if it weren't, I wouldn't be hearing these QQs), I'm glad I made my choice.

Now you may state that I didn't actually quit. BUT I did! I proceeded to quit WoW (believe me it isn't that addicting) in December of 2007. You see I had already accomplished level 70 with my favorite character, and I had already experienced as much content to satisfy me. By no means did I complete the game, but you will find that the rest of the content I did not complete (i.e excessive raiding, tear one billion, rank 1 pvp, etc) is mostly optional. Now, I live a happy life reading books, playing simple console games, browsing OT, and focusing on my studies. While I do not regret discovering the MMO field, I do regret spending so much time learning absolutely nothing.

FAQ

1. Will I come back? NO, I realize the truth

2. Why are you still here then? I like the community, specifically OT

3. What are you doing here? It's 11 and I'm bored

4. Will I get addicted to WoW? Sorry, I dunno you.

5. I play RS moderately and quitting wont benefit me. Why do you assume that quitting leads to a better life? You're probably lying and you spend most of your time playing RS. That or you are really young and never had a life to begin with. Furthermore, if you are one of the few who play RS moderately then I have this to say. You're probably more rare than a Black Jew from India living in Greenland. Good day.

ive QUIT for longer than ive played

i reached lvl 80 combat in my first year and did legends and most of the quests

over 2 years later

im lvl 92 combat and have done most of the quests which is really not impressive considering when i reached lvl 80 i added a lvl 40 who is now lvl 110 with a few 99's

xD your right it is impossible to quit for good unless you get perm banned and you spent all your time on one account

but people do quit all the time like me - im a failed account basically

A loss in Runescape friends is why I quit. I never even said I quit, I just do not play anymore. The key is to deprive yourself of motivation, and quit in everyway possible, no "I'm just going to log in every week or so to check on Runescape" but try to still include TIF, or at the minimul just OT :P

Lol, I actually just took Roller Coaster Tycoon Extension pack out two days ago because the internet was down :-$ Haahaa, it's still fun

There have been people who quit rs before and good for them, but most people can't leave because Jagex is always spitting out new things in this game and when you don't like one thing, they'll go ahead and update the game with ten new things you like. They are really trying to make costumer satisfaction a top priority so that people who enjoyed the game at one point will continue enjoying the game.
