June 21, 200818 yr Dam, 26% of our adults are obese. I blame the fact that Aussies have a good time and drink every now and then. Go us. ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!
June 21, 200818 yr Physical education is coming back, and now its necessary to finish high school. I know many other states, however, have little or no physical education. Yea, because the physical education in schools actually offers enough physical activity to stave off the obesity  It may be required, but that doesn't at all mean it works. Granted, it may inspire some kids to work out or play some sport, but if the targetted kids are those that get no exercise, one class every two or so days won't cut it. Nah, it's every day, and pretty intense. Well, it will be next year. I'm not in plain PE, nor ever will be, but it was complete [cabbage] last year, the kids just messed around the whole period. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
June 21, 200818 yr Quite frankly i am disgusted at the way you wrote that post. Last i checked dancing was an effective way to lose weight so that throws your night club experience out the window. FYI, people rarely go to clubs to actually dance, thats just the precursor activity. That's not true, it depends what type of clubs you go to. Most are there as a social thing, you still dance either way. I stand by my point that dancing is a great way to lose weight. As IGoddessI has already stated, dancing is a big reason for clubs. I think the blame needs to stop being shoved all over the place. It may be a result of fast food chains, lack of exercise, lack of sporting options, generalistic views on the "ideal" size. But in the end it all comes down to our own choices. I would just like to see exactly how they came up with the figures. June 21, 200818 yr I GOT IT! The media does not influence Austrialians, like it does in the USA. You see over here everyone is pressured to be 90 pounds and have breast implants. If the influence of the media was stonger over in Australia, there would be less fat people! BR BR BR? HUEHUEHEUEHUE

June 21, 200818 yr Soo far Latin America, and Mexico seems to be the Happiest people in the World >.> Or maybe the deaths aren't reported as suicide for cultural/religious reasons? "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
June 21, 200818 yr Soo far Latin America, and Mexico seems to be the Happiest people in the World >.> Or maybe the deaths aren't reported as suicide for cultural/religious reasons? Might not even be reported, it's just avoided for spiritual reasons. Iran's blue, and Islamic teachings on suicide are fairly explicit and strict - it hardly surprises that in such a vehemently Muslim nation, suicide rates would be lower. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
June 21, 200818 yr Sure, a large number of people in America are fat, but you don't see me saying that! On RS, I state that I'm from America and the first reply I get is "Fatass LOLOLOLZ!!11" I don't walk up to random Australians I don't know and tell them "HAHA ur country iz fatt3r thn myne!!!!11!!" The sad part is, I bet it's cus all that tea just fills up your head. But is there a reason to hate Europeans/Asians etc. just because some little punk misbehaved, not everyone say that America is fat it's just immature people who does that to be honest. What about the tea? your exactly the same back to us, we don't drink more tea then you do in America.
June 21, 200818 yr Wow, of all of the places, I would not have thought that Australia would beat America. Thing is with America is that it's so populated that it would take a lot of fat people to boost it up/down by 1%, so America can't really move about without serious effort. Australia however has such a low relative population that it wouldn't take much effort to jump about the rankings. With the UK, we could so easily beat both of you if you gave us a few months. EDIT: I just realised that I made a really sick pun in there. Oh well. ~ W ~
June 21, 200818 yr Most of Australia's population is old people though so it makes sense. That's why they introduced the baby bonus in hopes of helping Australia increase its youth. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
June 21, 200818 yr Soo far Latin America, and Mexico seems to be the Happiest people in the World >.> Nah, I'm pretty much 100% sure there isn't a magical explanation to that one. It's been a long known fact that the wealthier a country becomes, the more suicides will start appearing in that country. Obviously, that's been all western countries in the past. Now, when China/Russia/Cuba (And Japan with it's economic surge in the last 20 years) opening up their economies, instability, fear, (or boredom if you have too much).. Fills the minds of millions of people. Some of them will ultimately kill themselves due to the pressure. Latin americans may not be the wealthiest people in the world, but if you ever visited Argentina, Brazil, etc.. You'd see they are one of the most positive people of any country in the world despite not rolling in cash.
June 21, 200818 yr I'm from sydney, and to be honest, i don't see how this can be true. I live in the more wealthier part of the city, where you would think that there would be more overweight people because of the abundance of money, no? I rarely see anyone that i would describe as obese, and not that many people who are fat. Not 60% of the population... I rarely see anyone that i would describe as obese, and not that many people who are fat. Not 60% of the population... Obesity is linked with poverty in nearly all societies, not with wealth. Wealth is usually linked with education -> Education is linked with moderate weight and eating patterns. (That doesn't mean America is poor either, it just means MOST obesity occurs in groups like black women or low-income white males) To get a true picture, you'd have to go to a rural area in Australia, or a suburb in the USA. A wealthy neighbourhood with million dollar homes wouldn't give an accurate sample of the average population
June 21, 200818 yr Nah, I'm pretty much 100% sure there isn't a magical explanation to that one. Latin americans may not be the wealthiest people in the world, but if you ever visited Argentina, Brazil, etc.. You'd see they are one of the most positive people of any country in the world despite not rolling in cash. There's no magical explanation, but one of the factors is a different tolerance towards suicide. While our attitude towards suicide and euthanasia is mild, Iran's is strict (hence their lower rate) and a country such as Cuba's is more liberal (hence their higher rate). Cuba may have changed rapidly, however it remains a poor country economically, still has a great healthcare system and most Cubans experience a fairly laid-back, positive lifestyle too, so generalised statements regarding country X's wealth or attitude towards life doesn't really explain why suicide rates are so variable from that country to country Y. Now, as for obesity, Australia is country to whom sport is part of everyday life. The amount of exercise most Australians do isn't particularly a worry (despite Skatedog111's rather blinkered judgement at the start of this thread). Therefore what it seems to bow down to is diet. You can't force people to eat healthily, so it seems using public health services and schools to educate on the importance of a balanced diet would be the appropriate solution to this problem. There are no panaceas or instant-use drugs to solve obesity. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
June 21, 200818 yr What the hell did we do to Europe? We only saved them from their evil monarchies, the Nazi's and the Soviet's in that order, you know, nothing big. I think you'll find that the soviets saved us from the Nazi's and when the hell did America save us from our evil monarchies? I always thought Australia was full of criminals and America was full of fat people, Britain should of never given USA and Australia the right to rule themselves.

Which is the entire point is brining back physical eduction, to try and kid youth back into sport, etc and off their sorry [wagon] [bleep]ing about pointless [cabbage] over the internet. Sounds a bit like you actually. When was the last time you played some sport, or are you too much of a lard to move outside your house? :uhh:
June 21, 200818 yr now you mention statistics, i would like to know where this came from... i work in an organisation called ReachOut! founded in australia (moving to the US soon) and we mainly specialise in youths from 15-26 yars old. suicide here has actully been recorded in context to obesity because some people were abused about theri weight soo much they couldnt take it anymore. in fact if any aussies watched the new 1-2 years ago about a boy called Benjamin Cox, that was in fact a good friend of mine's brother. was bullied about his size from Kindy till Yr7 he quit school and hardly a social life till they successfully sued the Department of Education 1 million dollars. now that the story part is over back to business. school's arent educating health as much in Australia as it used to ,I myself am getting out of shape, you might think being 17, weighing 64kg and a height of roughly 185-195cm i would be. but were not motivated enough. the school's are so crap we have to go out of our way to do outside activities more and more, and with petrol prices, morgage rates rising etc, it gets harder and harder to afford so what do we do? simple, we flunk inside. though thanks to my (crappy) new job i might afford to get back into martial arts as my kicks arent as powerful as they once were. #-o im willing to bet i made no sense to some. no suprise, its 12:30am and im tired. good night TIF. : EDIT: RemoteMan, take a trip slightly north to Newcastle then to Medowie, you'll see why motivation doesnt exist here. (we got [cabbage] all) Popoto.~<3

BTW, How did you GIVE us the right to rule ourselves? last I remeber, we kicked ur [wagon] in the Revolutionary and took our country back. Spain helped. And we didn't take te country back, we just took it. I always thought Australia was full of criminals and America was full of fat people, Britain should of never given USA and Australia the right to rule themselves. Yet you get upset when we say you drink tea? What a hypocrite. Also, the Soviets were allies with the Nazis for a good portion of World War II. When Hitler got greedy and attacked, they still didn't do too much to liberate Europe; being embedded in what many would call the most massive battle in history tends to do that to you. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
June 21, 200818 yr Americans would not of had a chance in HELL in winning the revolutionary war if it weren't for the French. The reason Yorktown was a US victory because the French navy was blocking the British retreat route.

America saved Europe from their monarchs around the 15th,16th century, when Colombus initiated some colonisation crap.Basically, they saved Europe by leaving it. =D> But dude thats stereotyping!I mean I always thought the Brits were people who burnt witches who don't exist and consisted mainly of longbowmen, because they suck at the rush. But that doesn't mean I go around saying "Oh look I'm a British witch,if I'm innocent I die,if I'm guilty I die too!" Yeah, maybe you shouldn't have given Singapore the right to rule itself either, though I love how you gave us to Japan, only to take us back when they didn't want us. so i herd u liek devarts? If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".[hide=This's why I'm hot]The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".Amen, brother :lol:Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)amen Bruder! June 21, 200818 yr And Britain is full of hypocritical little tea drinkers? At least we don't have a [bleep] Queen. Yes, that's right... because everyone in Britain is a monarchist. That's why we have the Houses of Parliament, obviously. There's only one reason we've kept the Queen for this long - tradition and tourism. The Royal family has had practically no power over our political system for the best part of 150 years. Victoria and all monarchs thereafter couldn't even stop Ireland breaking apart. In fact, the only incident where a monarch has intervened that I can personally recall is when the King stopped Churchill going to Normandy after D-Day. So please, go away if you're just here to stereotype. I for one am no fan of the Queen, yet I still live here and abide by my country's principles. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

June 21, 200818 yr Haha, it's fun to see the difference between a stereotypical Aussie, European and American here. The stereotypical American is so proud of his nation and people (granted, there are some good reasons to be proud of it, too) that he's incapable of showing a little self-mockery. A joke about the weight of the Americans (even a lame one), is enough to make him leap up and bombard the responsibles with sad attempts of heavier insults. The stereotypical Aussie reacts and tries to calm the heated situation with some diplomatical skill. They don't even care they're the fattest country in the world, and why would they? It's not worth caring about what some idiot 10,000 miles away is calling you. Then there's the European, who ignores the problem and just carries on with the topic. It's like a microcosmos of what's happening in international politics these days. Chuck in some hard-working but ignorant Asians, some power-hungy Russians, some poor and corrupt Africans and South-Americans and we have ourselves a world depicting the stereotypes of every culture.
