Australia is now the world's fattest country

Yes, that's right... because everyone in Britain is a monarchist. That's why we have the Houses of Parliament, obviously.

There's only one reason we've kept the Queen for this long - tradition and tourism. The Royal family has had practically no power over our political system for the best part of 150 years. Victoria and all monarchs thereafter couldn't even stop Ireland breaking apart. In fact, the only incident where a monarch has intervened that I can personally recall is when the King stopped Churchill going to Normandy after D-Day.

Not true, the majority of English people are in favor of the Queen and the Queen had heavy influence over decisions made by the PM.

It doesn't mean the parliment have to listen, right?

Where do you get that from? Belgium is also still a Monarchy and I don't really have a problem with that, our king doesn't have any significant power anymore, their heritage (castles, palaces, gardens,...) is largely public and nice to visit and the king always makes up a nice Christmas speech, let the man stay :)

But I seriously doubt if the majority still supports them; I'm pretty sure a lot of people prefer seeing them gone, because they're no good in the little political/economical things (travelling abroad, convincing investors) they have to do. I don't know about the UK, but to say that the majority of the people are in favor of the Queen and that she actually has heavy influence over the decisions of the Prime Minister? Doubt that.

That is a load of bull. The Queen doesn't have any influence over the PM, and even if she did he would still have to put it pass the house of parliment etc. The only thing she has do to with the parliment is opening and closing it before and after elections, other than that she doesn't have anything to do with the everyday running of the country etc.

And to all those people talking about the sterotypical Britain drinking tea, what would you rather be a 30 stone guy who could have a heart attack at anytime or someone who has a cup of tea everyday? And nowadays its more about drinking coffee etc something that most of the world do as well.

What the hell did we do to Europe?

We only saved them from their evil monarchies, the Nazi's and the Soviet's in that order, you know, nothing big.

I think you'll find that the soviets saved us from the Nazi's and when the hell did America save us from our evil monarchies?

I always thought Australia was full of criminals and America was full of fat people, Britain should of never given USA and Australia the right to rule themselves.

You would make a fine diplomat. [/sarcasm]

Then there's the European, who ignores the problem and just carries on with the topic.

That's completely untrue in this topic. And the self-mockery thing is also untrue; ever notice how a comment about tea turns this topic into a debate about how awful America is?

Leave it to the Belgian to try and be the peacemaker. :P

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

And Britain is full of hypocritical little tea drinkers? At least we don't have a [bleep] Queen.

So please, go away if you're just here to stereotype. I for one am no fan of the Queen, yet I still live here and abide by my country's principles.

What's with you and sensationalism? Seriously, he was just replying back to the other British dude

What's with you and writing spam for no apparent reason other than to insult others for their arguing technique? Furthermore, he writes on a public forum, anyone can reply.

I presume you have sources for either of those two completely ridiculous claims? Or are you basing your opinion on a prejudice? The fact you said 'PM' instead of 'former PM' rather suggests to me you know nothing about British politics at all.

If anything it's the other way round. The Queen has a Privy Council and asks respected MPs for advice on her affairs, not the other way round. Yes, technically the PM has to ask the Queen to change the status of foreign affairs (such as the war in Iraq), but power is so overwhelmingly against her she's really no option but to agree with the decision of Parliament.

Lol, that has seriously got to be the most randomest country to become "fat".

And guys, this is about Australia, not Britain. -.-

We'll technically Australia is part of the Commonwealth Realms so most of the world constitutes those 16 countries (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis) as part of Britain just for the kicks.

Haha, it's fun to see the difference between a stereotypical Aussie, European and American here. The stereotypical American is so proud of his nation and people (granted, there are some good reasons to be proud of it, too) that he's incapable of showing a little self-mockery. A joke about the weight of the Americans (even a lame one), is enough to make him leap up and bombard the responsibles with sad attempts of heavier insults.

The stereotypical Aussie reacts and tries to calm the heated situation with some diplomatical skill. They don't even care they're the fattest country in the world, and why would they? It's not worth caring about what some idiot 10,000 miles away is calling you.

Then there's the European, who ignores the problem and just carries on with the topic.

It's like a microcosmos of what's happening in international politics these days. Chuck in some hard-working but ignorant Asians, some power-hungy Russians, some poor and corrupt Africans and South-Americans and we have ourselves a world depicting the stereotypes of every culture.

[/hide]

Okay, I'm the stereotypical America. And it's not a little American fat joke. I'm venting the frustration that comes with logging in and hearing "pmg american fatass is her3 LOLZZ!!11!!".

*bets money you're a European*

He's already said he's Belgian.

Ignoring rocco who is just making an [wagon] out of himself, Europe DOES make fun of America a lot more than we do back, but I'm not throwing a temper tantrum like this guy.

Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....

Bet those statistics come from the capital cities, i hardly see any fatties in more rural towns.

And if its ages 40-45 or there-abouts, we won't be the fattest country for too long.

And im sure our childhood obesity isn't as bad as America's..

I'm going to get this topic cleaned up - How the topic goes from a discussion about the news article and facts, prevention methods etc to arrogant people deterring the topic is beyond me.

Take your petty country fall outs to PM.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

You've been here long enough to know that any topic about any nation will turn into Americans versus the rest of the world.

Of course, that's no excuse for pissing off a pregnant lady. :?

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

OK everyone, Goddess is right. Cut the pointless country bickering or this topic will be locked. I would have just deleted the off topic posts, but it seems that more then half of this thread is people arguing. If you want to continue, do it through PM.

In the next thread about America, I'm gonna start a debate about how Queensland is better than New South Wales and then start insulting the Kiwis. :P Because that's how this thread has gone.

I guess Australia is getting fatter, but isn't every country? The world has become so lazy so you would expect people to gain weight, right?

Only in developed countries, they barely have enough food to survive in some third world countries. If we just exported all our fast food restaurants to Africa then the world food crisis and the American obesity problem, would be solved in one blow.

I agree with you, it does build character.

Yea i think with developed countries its just pure laziness of the parents because they don't care too much for money. I moved to the US from a pretty undeveloped country, and I was shocked to find 5 year olds in McDs and stuff. My parents would never let me eat McDs until I was like 10, and even then it was like 2x per year for like grades or other reward. America has a notion of, hey I am to tired/lazy/busy to cook so fast food is an ok replacement. Thankfully the culture is starting to change a bit in america, atleast from what i have seen/hear.

I can definitely see how thats possible. I work in a retail store which caters for "Big Men" (3XL to 7XL or 112cm to 146cm waist). So fat is what i see predominantly. The store also has regular size clothing too, but it's interesting to note that the majority of those 'regular' customers are around the XL-XXL bracket. That gives me a reason to believe this study.
