I'm quite offended by the absolutely ignorant stances on breastfeeding I've seen in this thread. I can only guess it's because your mothers never breastfed you. -.-

 

 

 

It's such a hugely important part of the development of children, and it always depresses me to see a two month old being forced to drink some formula crap out of a bottle. Breastfed babies have all the nutrition they need, no deficiencies there. They should be drinking breastmilk even after they start eating solid foods. Everything else should be added to that, or else these babies will develop slow witted, malnourished, and a sharply lowered immune system. Not to mention the lack of one on one contact it can give, after that point, there's no way to fix bonds that were never created. As far as I'm concerned, the only reasons babies should be formula/bottle fed would be for a medical problem, like if they were to have galactosemia or something, as a baby cousin of mine did, and that was quite a tragedy.

What he's saying is the shawl might smother the baby as it's feeding. food and oxygen are equally important, but a baby can live longer without food than it can without oxygen if it has a shawl blocking it's airways while it's suckling.

I think he means that everyone else in the world believes breastfeeding is ok, especially mothers. He's just saying that it's a natural thing to do, and they shouldn't be told to go somewhere else to feed their baby. Ok, if you're gonna play the "Double natural" card, we'll break it down a little further. Breastfeeding is a more natural instinct than intelligent thought and forming your own opinions. Look at most mammals, which react using the most basic form of thought, instinct. That instinct is to breastfeed their pups/kids/whatever.

I may not be lactating, but I was, for all intents and purposes, a third parent for several children, and I have seen this happening. :P

 

 

 

What I'm saying is that a breastfeeding mother doesn't need to, like, pull her shirt up over her head to get the baby fed, all that needs to be done is pulling a breast out enough for the baby to get at the nipple, and still be able to breath. I'd give a visual diagram to show the way I mean, but, you know. :lol: Maybe I have a lesser idea of how much skin showing is too much, but really, it shouldn't matter, for the baby's sake.

As far as i know, the milk from a woman breast is far more nutrisous (spelling?) than something you buy.

 

 

 

My older sis had two kids, both has moved onto "normal food", but she has breastfeeded them in my presence (been in the same room), i look the other way or just pick up a magazine.. or something, no problem there!

 

Also, my brother's wife has breastfeeded in my presence, i do the same thing there; look the other way.. pick up a magazine or do something else.

For the whole "it's natural" argument, having sex, using the bathroom, nudity, and picking your nose are all natural too. Like I said before, it's social etiquette. Some may find those things offensive, others may not. Just because there is no law stating I am not allowed to pick my nose, that doesn't mean I should be doing it in front of everyone in a fancy restaurant. It's unappetizing to others and that should be respected - no matter how natural it is.
