Breastfeeding

I'm only posting this because i'm feeling sick from what i saw about 1hr ago.

I was eating in a restaurant, a nice meal, (a great meal actually) while some women in front of me, lifts up her shirt and publicly while trying to hide it (but failing) starts breastfeeding her baby. Now i appreciate the fact she had 3 children all quite young, and she wants to keep them calm etc, incase they have a temper tantrum or something (her baby was crying) But still in a good restaurant, to breastfeed?!!?

It would be okay if it was in some crappy Macdonalds or something, but in a fairly good, quality restaurant i was in, i just thought it was inapproriate. And de-appetizing. So has anyone else seen stuff like this ?

I saw my aunt do it :-#

You didn't have to look, would you rather hear children screaming all night or get a seconds glance that you can simply ignore or watch (whichever you choose) She's just parenting, depends on the person really.

Well, she probably forgot the milk bottle, and had to call in the reserves :P .

Srsly though, i dont understand your problem, nothing wrong with breastfeeding in public. It's better than having to listen to a baby scream and shout.

And no, i dont think i've ever seen this before.

-.- *slaps* Anyway, yeah, unless if you're female or homosexual, I don't get why you're disgusted by that. True, it's not suitable for most public areas, but meh. It's not like it's anything overly weird.

On topic: I've seen it all the time. If it was a really nice restaurant, I am guessing you would have rather had her breastfeed instead of have her three kids yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs. That would be annoying. Also, who says you couldn't have just ignored it. If you lost your appetite, move to another table and eat there. If you can't, ask for a doggy-bag and take the food home and eat it later. There's nothing wrong with what she did. It may have been disturbing, but your mother did the exact same thing with you.

Hmm, breastfeeding in public...

Well, if I was in a high class place, as you were, I think it would be a little disturbing.

Some low class place, well it wouldn't bother me as much. Or even in hospitals or such.

Really, it would depend on where I am. If I'm in some high class, fancy place, I don't want to see this, though if its a fast food place oor such, then at least the baby is getting better nutrition(sp?) than me...

Breastfeeding in public is fine, but doing it in a place where people are trying to enjoy a dinner? Come on, at least take it to the bathroom or something please.

You felt sick about a perfectly natural thing and something hospitals encourage mothers to help their baby get the nutrition they need?? Don't be coming near my neighbourhood anytime soon because I tell you what if my baby is hungry, I'm going to shove my shirt up and feed my bloody son whether you feel sick or not. Turn around or eat somewhere else if you have a problem with it!

My son isn't an animal and he's going to eat the same time as we do. If you have a problem with that, build a bridge and get over it sunshine. I could really care less about what you're trying to eat. In the bathroom? Yeah real sanitary, smart thinking there

And to be quite frank with anyone who has a problem with it, don't be coming near me anytime soon because if my son is hungry, there's going to be boobs in your face!! Take a picture and maybe it will last longer :D

I don't have a problem with it, as long as the mother doesnt have a problem with me looking.. :geek:

She has every right to breastfeed her child, the child was hungry and she fed it. If you have a problem with her feeding her child then just don't look - simple as that.

There is nothing wrong with breastfeeding in public. She's not doing it to show people her breast, she's doing it to feed her baby. You shouldn't be looking or paying them attention for it.

I'm not saying "DEATH TO ZE INFIDEL BREASTFEEDERS!"

And i'm not saying either "Random women in the street breastfeeding thier kids turns me on, because half of my life is dedicated to 4chan"

I'm simply saying, is it really necessary to breastfeed in the middle of a restaurant? Let me stress the key word here. Restaurant. While i and possibly a few other people were eating. I'm lucky i didnt get the garlic butter on my steak, and went with good ol' mustard.

Either way that steak was pretty good.

And to that [developmentally delayed] who posted "imagine if the baby was breastfeeding the mom" Please, please, shoot yourself. as for breastfeeding, I see nothing wrong with doing it in public. Its the human body and, as a few others have already said, I'd rather have to look away from a mother's breasts then put up with a screaming child while I'm trying to eat my meal. My only issue is that I have a little brother who acts immature when he sees a lady in a bikini on TV. If he sees an old qwoman's breasts, he'll ruin our dinner. So yes she should at least attempt to hide it for the sake of the curious children around her, but if you can still see it you shouldn't complain. Just turn away and continue your meal. at least this woman has the decency to keep her kids quiet and happy, while other parents would quickly pretend they don't know the child and continue their meal.

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

I gave it some thought, maybe it's not acceptable in the most high-class restaurant establishments, but I'd have no problem with it even if I had kids and they were eating with me and saw that.

It's perfectly natural and IMO there's nothing disgusting about feeding your baby which is hungry and can't really eat any form of food yet... At least I remember while being in France, almost every mother does it, and nobody cares even if it's in a park or a bus etc. It's not a taboo or some freaky thing like in the US that you have to 'hide'.

Yeah, I fail to see the problem as well, restaurant or no restaurant. If you think the breasts or the act of breastfeeding is taboo/ disgusting, then you're probably a bit immature, no offense intended.

Anyway I don't think I have ever been breastfed or seen anyone do it, but atm I have nothing against. It's a natural thing and should be encouraged.

I really don't understand what's so disgusting there, it was just a mother feeding a child, nothing else. Why is seeing a breast so "de-appetizing"?

The only thing that amazes me is that you'd find it ok in a 'crappy' restaurant, but not in a 'fancy' place.

That's what I was thinking

On-topic, I really don't see a problem with it. It's only natural, after all. I had an experience relating to this today. While waiting in a waiting room for my guitar lesson to start, a woman started breastfeeding her child next to. A tad awkward, but it was better than having the baby wail at the top of it's lungs until my lesson started.

It's part of life, and it's natural. Our society does not override the basic principles of what needs to be natural. Not feeding the child causes more damages then seeing a breast.

A high class place, like a fancy restaurant (not something like Kelseys, or Montanas, that's still low class) children usually won't be there. If they are, the staff will ask for them to leave if the child is crying and causing a disturbance which why children under 5-7 aren't brought to high class places where things like breast feeding would be labeled as taboo. So the chances of it actually happening is extremely low.

For those who say they would do it because if their child is hungry, god himself won't stop them, pressure in a classy place, full of rich, stuck up fools, will. I guarantee the majority of females would excuse themselves to be polite, and go to the bathroom, or wherever to do it. Though I don't think there's anything wrong with actually doing it at the table, in such a place your making a very negative impression on yourself, usually your husband, and whoever your with. It can also cause a lot of repercussions, and if females are wanting to be almighty they can risk it, but practically it's better to go and be polite. Whether or not how they feel about it.

I've seen people breastfeeding in any kind of place imaginable, it's nothing we should shun out of society labeling as impolite, and rude.

The only thing that amazes me is that you'd find it ok in a 'crappy' restaurant, but not in a 'fancy' place.

It's called making an impression, and expected expectations out of you and your behavior. This differs in low class, and high class restaurants. It's bullcrap yes, but you won't get anywhere ignoring these expectations.

i dont have a problem with breastfedding in public, but i wish they wouldn't, rude imo. what they could do like a normal person is milk before, and bring a bottle, what my sister-in-law does. if she at her house or ours or w\e she will breastfeed but not if she out

The way I see it, if they have to feed the baby, then go for it. Also, I agree with Jesse, all it is is freaking biology, like porn IMO, and if you're disgusted, then you need to go away from the view of the general public, there's no way to get rid of it.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.
