July 24, 200817 yr I've had a lot of my friends tell me it's the best "sadistic role" they've seen, and I just kindly remind them of Kevin Spacey in "Se7en". Heath does play the part very well, but it's not the end all be all role. Or the people in Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma since they are so nonchalant about it all.
July 24, 200817 yr Or the people in Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma since they are so nonchalant about it all. *Shudders* I totally forgot about seeing that movie, thanks for reminding me of the most f-ed up movie I've ever watched  "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
July 24, 200817 yr I just got back from watching it. I have to say, the movie is friggin' cool  [hide=spoiler]I can't get over the sight on Joker in that wig and nurse outfit. I just loved every bit of the 'blow-up the hospital' scene[/hide] Ultra Unholy,Hearted Machine...
July 24, 200817 yr I just got back from watching it. I have to say, the movie is friggin' cool  [hide=spoiler]I can't get over the sight on Joker in that wig and nurse outfit. I just loved every bit of the 'blow-up the hospital' scene[/hide] Yeah when the initial explosions went off I thought "that didn't seem too bad, the people for the most part would have survived anyway" but then when he stopped and kept pressing the button, I was amazed at the huge explosion so suddenly
July 24, 200817 yr anyone notice that he licked his lips every once in a while? damn. such a small, but brilliant habit to add to that character. i dont even know why, but it makes him more menacing. i would never have been able to think of doing something like that. Reminds me of Barty Crouch Jr from Harry Potter :P He constantly sticked his tongue out as well. Anyway I saw the movie 2 nights ago and I loved it. I think it was great because in my opinion, the best kind of villain is one who is psychologically derranged and you can only have a good superhero movie with a good villain. As everyone has said previously, the villain was absolutely incredible and therefore made the movie great. He didn't scare people with weapons but with his entire nature. [hide=Spoiler]The details in the movie were fantastic. I loved the little things that made The Joker scary.. everything from his appearance to his various costumes, etc. I love the part when he and a few other people in masks pop out of the truck that says "Slaughter." I loved those little tiny details.[/hide] - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
July 25, 200817 yr I CAME. Movie was one of the best I've seen in a long time. As said before, Ledger's role made the film. Such a great role, it's a shame he passed away. The role was just so menacing, I'm sure it made him a little delusional, which is why he OD'd. :$
July 25, 200817 yr I'm going to make this pencil dissapear *WHAM* tada!! Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....
July 25, 200817 yr Well tonight I ventured, with a few friends, to the local movie theater to waste $7.75 on a movie. Tonight we chose The Dark Knight. I'm not usually a fan of super-hero movies, but I've heard excellent reviews from friends, family, and online forum users. I went in thinking Heath Ledger was going to wow me with an acting persona never seen before by my eyes. I thought that Christian Bale would be the super-hero that I might finally enjoy watch triumph over evil. I had high hopes for this movie, personally, yet was thoroughly unimpressed. Immediately upon The Joker entering his first seen it was hard for me to not compare his "persona" to the alike feminine and swaggering Captain Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp. Granted The Joker was a tad bit more sadistic than Captain Jack, it was my first impression nonetheless. Don't get me wrong, I hate Pirates as much as the next guy, but I shrugged it off, thinking that it would get better. It didn't at all. Throughout the movie I was able to predict many of The Joker's supposed "sick twists"; many of which were rip offs of other decisions that movie characters have had to make in order to save the life of another (Saw anyone?). So as the movie progressed I got a little more into it thinking, "Hey, this ain't so bad after all, maybe I'm just too much of a downer." It was all fine and dandy until the writers decided to take a huge steaming plot-dump in the middle of the movie where there was absolutely no pacing at all. The movie took a huge cliff jump and belly flopped into the water below for about 20 minutes right in the middle. I won't say which part, because I don't spoil movies, in hide tags or not, but for any other film critic, it was pretty obvious. But never mind the plot halt, never mind The Joker's ripped off techniques, let's focus on the overall acting. Christian Bale did a very nice job playing Batman, I'd even say better than any others that have done it before him. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine both played the advice giving father figures greatly as well. Not a single actor really decides to take over this movie and "own" it, which is a good thing. Overall I'd give this movie 7/10. Way too much hype and too few results. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
July 25, 200817 yr HOLY LIVING DAZING DREAMING COW! That was the best movie ever. If i were not inlove with the Harry Potters, Hands down best movie yet. I really wanna go see again - Joker ooo i like a little fight in a woman- -batman cuts in- Then you'll love me! Whap shabazzle ding wing ling fing ning! Gah i loved it! 4th please? Let your yellow mellow.

Not everyone can act like that even if he is similar to those characters (and others). - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
July 25, 200817 yr personally I love Johnny Depp's Sparrow, so... pretty much disagree with all of that. I think the pirates series is a good set of films.
July 25, 200817 yr personally I love Johnny Depp's Sparrow, so... pretty much disagree with all of that. I think the pirates series is a good set of films. I thought the films were ok-to-stupid, however I do like Depp's Sparrow also. Don't really see the comparison to the Joker though either.
July 25, 200817 yr I did think that the Joker often seemed to be like the mastermind of a Saw movie, and[hide=spoiler]duriong the 2 boat sequence, It was very obvious that the detonators went to the other boats. Also kind of reminded me of Star Wars episode III how two-face turned to the dark side after getting burned and losing the woman he loves (anakin anyone?)[/hide]

I liked it in the first movie, but that was about it. I realize he is different by a mile in Batman, but the way he talked to girls and the way he would have those creepy laughs in just about every situation. Maybe I'm the only one, but I really thought the BASE of his character seemed a lot like Johnny Depp's characters in other movies. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
July 25, 200817 yr ive heard rumors that if the joker is in the next movie, johnny depp would play him. ... god forbid
July 26, 200817 yr Bear in mind, I haven't actually read any of the other replies in this thread. I didn't want to follow this thread before I watched it, and now I really can't be bothered reading 5 pages of replies. Ok, so I watched the movie for the first time last night. I watched the first hour and a half of it, and was really enjoying it when I got a call from some of my friends. Anyway, they came over to pick me up and we were going to go hang out with some other friends. Did that for a few hours, it was pretty fun. After we'd all dispersed, the two guys who came and picked me up came back to my house, and we watched the whole movie from the beginning. Before, I'd gotten to the part where [hide=]Batman is interrogating the Joker with the Police looking on[/hide], and even on the second watch, that whole one and a half hours of movie was fantastic. As we went on watching, I was getting more and more unimpressed. I know it's based on a series of comic books, but god, they weren't even trying to put any realism in it.. [hide=]Things like Batman somehow turning every single phone in the city into a SONAR thing was just ridiculous.[/hide] At the very end of it, I was pretty unimpressed. The last 40 minutes of the movie just pissed me off. That said, Heath Ledger was fantastic. Like, absolutely fantastic. But he wasn't actually the highligh of the movie for me. The highlight was: [hide=]about 40 minutes into the movie, where the polic are arresting all the criminals. Just after the Eastern European (the one with the dogs) is being arrested, there's this shot on the screen for about 3 seconds of this black guy being pinned down to the police cars getting handcuffs put on, and he's squirming around pretty crazily. Now, I know this is sort of racist, but when I saw that, I thought, "They takin' my fried chicken!" That made me laugh really, REALLY hard..[/hide] Cool.
July 26, 200817 yr I finally saw this tonight, I heard all the hype and was afraid it was going to be over hyped and overrated. It was, in my opinion. I think what I'm annoyed about the most is people comparing this to great cinema, great movies, when it is not. It is a superhero-popcorn-action flick, and a great one at that. In my opinion this doesn't come close to great movies like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, The Godfather (even though it's not one of my favorites), A Clockwork Orange, and it isn't even close to Christopher Nolan's greatest movie Memento. That is what I'm disappointed about the most. I saw some replies here about it being #1 on IMDB, yes, it is currently but it will be dropping again, and already is at a 9.3. I imagine it should level out between the top 10-50 somewhere. [hide=]What I do enjoy about the movie however, is the portrayal of Joker, just like everyone else said. And there really isn't much more to be said, it was great, the mannerisms of licking the lips and the way he spoke was fantastic.[/hide] [hide=]The rest? Typical superhero action movie. Throw a girl in there, add some fancy technology (the cellphone thing was ridiculous), add a plot twist or two, throw it in the oven for a couple hours and its a great action movie. I read somewhere that people thought this had some sort of underlying deep tones and messages too it. I didn't see it, I think everything was easily read and spoon fed to the audience.[/hide] With that I would give the movie a 7/10, it was great fun and entertaining.
July 26, 200817 yr I don't know how you couldn't see the message...or themes. Come to think of it, that was my favorite aspect. There's always themes in a story...
July 26, 200817 yr [hide=]Exactly, they were so straight forward, spoon fed. I hate when a movie spoon feeds me the "message." You obviously didn't get what I meant, I maybe should've worded it differently.[/hide]
July 26, 200817 yr Author I absolutly hate it when people complain about movies , ESPECIALLY movies like Superhero flicks and the like, lacking realism. This movie wasn't made to be real. It's a got man dressed like a bat beating up criminals, a guy with half his face burnt off but still alive (though this would be possible in real life, you get my point), and a psycho dressed like a clown mass-murdering people. And people are complianing about the cellphone stuff? Seriously? Just take it for what it is, a FICTIONAL movie. Sure, the movie had a real tone to it, but not striaght up realism. You wanna see a movie that has realism, go see a documentary or a biography. You shouldn't have even thought about realism walking into a Batman movie. :|

Amazing movies only come along every so often, and The Dark Knight sadly is not even CLOSE to an amazing movie. Good? Yes. Amazing? No. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder."
July 26, 200817 yr The theme wasn't spoon fed. You had to think it over. And how the hell was it a popcorn superhero movie?
July 26, 200817 yr Yeah there was a lot of underlying themes in it. I don't know, I have the feeling that some of you complaining about it just are doing so due to it being hyped. As far as the technology, well, he's the batman. His "superpower", esentially, is the fact that he has a [bleep] ton of money and can buy whatever he wants. Yeah the technology was unrealistic but it didn't detract from the message or the movie IMO.
July 27, 200817 yr The theme wasn't spoon fed. You had to think it over. And how the hell was it a popcorn superhero movie? I disagree, the entire 'theme' was explained throughout the entire movie, there was no need to think about it. [hide=]Especially at the ending when the Joker is hanging upside down, it's pretty much explained right there, and also at the very end when Gordon is talking to his son, that Batman is the hero Gotham derserves, but not the hero it needs right now. That was Harvey Dent. So they will hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector...The Dark Knight.[/hide] But like I said, this was a very fun and entertaining movie to watch and I enjoyed it a lot.
